Buyer Beware, I have one of these and a lot of people are having problems with the screen coating scratching off (normal oil resistant and anti glare coating that every modern device has and cannot function without) from normal use just from the stylus and from the keyboard folded in place. Lenovo is pretending the issue doesnt exist even though those of us speaking up keep getting replacements that get right back to the same level of scratched up after just a few days of careful use. It is getting to the point where they are starting to just charge users who want replacements even though no other device on the planet has these same issues and everything else holds up fine to normal daily use.

@@beelam868 Yes I do, for a 14” laptop it is really light and portable. I got the WQHD screen and super happy with it. FYI, there is a problem on these X1 Yoga models where the touchscreen sometimes spazzes out (register false touches) if it's not sitting on a flat surface (such as your lap). I disabled the touchscreen on mine (pen still works), but the other options are to use the laptop on a desk whenever possible or wiggle the lid and let the spazzing die down.
Looks like the exact same keyboard connection as the surface pro, maybe they are interchangable (Wouldn't supprise me since this entire disign is pretty much a try hard surface pro copy)

It actually leans more to the tablet since the whole computer is INSIDE the screen making it a device that can work perfectly as a tablet. In contradiction, the traditional laptops have their computing power in the keyboard area...
Just got mine with an i7 and 16GB RAM/1TB SSD. Absolutely amazing machine! Super fast with every task thrown at it, thin and fairly lightweight and a beautiful bright 3K screen. Negatives would be just like all thinkpads the matte finish gets fingerprinted and dirty looking quickly, the speakers are hot garbage and multiple reports from early buyers about screen coating getting scratched just from looking at it the wrong way(joke). Worse yet, Lenovo saying it's not covered under warranty. Not good.
if you go through Lenovo community, you will see so many problems about X1 Tablet products there. I will recommend you thinking carefully before buying this X1 tablet.

I have a 5th gen surface pro and I'm never bothered while using it on my lap (and I'm talking about the actual typing experience here). It works flawlessly and I'm comfortable with it. Idk why the reviewers complaint so much about the surface pro's *lappability* 🤷🏻♂️

your point on productivity first, something that can kick back later is exactly what the thinkpad is. it's a business machine. Something that you can take to a presentation and do everything while standing with a tablet instead of holding an entire laptop, while being able to work just as efficiently on a desk. Loads of people i know have a misconception of this entire line of machine.

@@scottgould6590 no, the x1 3rd gen is user replaceable, you just can service it by yourself it's quite easy to dissamble, while surface pro is basically not possible without destroyed the adhesive and risks the main screen
Only diff is Lenovo's choice to move from the classic keyboard to a chiclet style with the x230 and above. Their keebs have definitely gotten better but when they first rolled out the new design they were ass
After my X1 first gen got faulty I upgraded it to the SP5. I had contemplation about moving to the X1 3rd gen, but I decided against it because of SP's smaller footprint. It has a bigger screen despite that because the bezels are smaller, the downside of it is that the SP doesn't have fingerprint (which I prefer) but face recognition instead. I'm glad I made the switch over because the SP is much better built. The front firing speakers are also quality surround sound and the Pen can stick to the tablet magnetically. The tip of the SP Pen also act as an eraser whereas the Lenovo one needs pressing the button to activate it. It sound like a gimmick but I immediately appreciated the convenience as soon as I used it. What I will miss on the X1 is the keyboard because the buttons feels less flimsy and more tactile. Shame it doesn't have any media controls, the SP at least has Play/Pause button. The price for both is about the same once you spec them similarly. So it really depends what your priorities are, but you'll be fine with either.
The magnetic pen seems "fun and easy" perhaps, but a magnet is either to weak, losing it's grip at some point, or it is to strong, making it annoying to pull lose
Isn't the surface line suppose to be a blueprint by Microsoft for their OEM what Microsoft's vision of a netbook/ convertible should be like? So yes, it's a copy and it's meant to be one!
Connectivity is still not as great as with other ThinkPad devices. Take a look at the ThinkPad L380/L390 Yoga notebook, it is probably the better option with an integrated pen and you can save some money as well.
Well design wise and quality wise yes but Surface pro is a luxury brand. The X1 will still do everything the Surface pro but Surface pro looks better doing it

I have had the same issue. Sent it to Lenovo for repair, they sent it back and after 2 weeks it happened again. Waiting on Lenovo for round 3

aldopopp I returned my Surface pro and got a book, because the keyboard was horrible. But it’s subjective .
Krisham Ray I prefer the alcantara fabric so my favourite keyboard and device in general is the surface laptop.

Connectivity is still not as great as with other ThinkPad devices. Take a look at the ThinkPad L380/L390 Yoga notebook, it is probably the better option with an integrated pen and you can save some money as well.

No idea why nobody talks about the iPad with just a Smart Cover and the Apple bluetooth keyboard as a combo. Seems like the best of both worlds.
Keyboard layout has the fn button on lower left instead of ctrl. Be prepared to always screw up on copy/paste if you use ctrl+c / ctrl + v
