  • The youngest victim of the Manchester Arena bombing could have survived the attack, if she'd received better first aid, according to her family.
Saffie Roussos, who was eight, died in the attack in May 2017. Experts appointed by her family to investigate what happened, have found she was awake and talking for some time after the explosion.
Clive Myrie presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Judith Moritz, who spoke exclusively to Saffie's father Andrew.

Better first aid? Let's not blame the 1st responders for the actions of a terrorist. Of course she could've survived, everyone killed at the arena could have survived, if it weren't for the terrorists carrying out the attack.

It is the medics responsibility too. They're not blaming first responders for the attack but they have every right to blame them for her dying from her injuries. They have received training and have a duty to do everything they can to save someones life it's their JOB. They failed. Knowing someone you love could've survived had people done their job properly is very painful.

Compression or crush injuries are like that.
The area is suddenly compressed which delays the full impact of the injury by keeping the blood trapped there.
But once you stop it being compressed the blood flows freely and time catches up to them.
It's sad but sometimes a victim can basically already be dead from an accident and their body doesn't yet realise it.

I have lost close family members to medical incompetence & indifference & bore the brunt of a near useless justice system failing victims of serious crime against me & mine. This is never right or acceptable.
This carnage was allowed happen due to failings in police surveillance, police & security failings at the venue & now we see a catalogue of failings that let this innocent victim die in fear & pain without even the presence of her parents.

Kyle Lawler, who was 18 at the time of the Manchester Arena attack, was standing 10 or 15ft away from Abedi.

@@Martial-Mat ''Abedi, 22, dressed all in black and carrying a large rucksack, had been reported to security by a member of the public at 22:15.
Around eight minutes before the bombing, Showsec steward Mohammed Ali Agha alerted Mr Lawler to the report and both began observing Abedi.
In his statement prepared for the inquiry, Mr Lawler said: "I just had a bad feeling about him but did not have anything to justify that."
The witness added that Abedi was "fidgety and sweating".
Mr Lawler said he attempted to use his radio to alert the security control room but claimed he could not get through due to radio traffic.
He then left the arena and took up his position outside the City Room and made no further attempt to raise the alarm.
Mr Lawler agreed he simply "gave up" trying to use the radio and just got on with his job.
In his prepared statement to the inquiry, the Showsec security guard also said: "I felt unsure about what to do.
"It's very difficult to define a terrorist. For all I knew he might well be an innocent Asian male.
"I did not want people to think I am stereotyping him because of his race.
"I was scared of being wrong and being branded a racist if I got it wrong and would have got into trouble. It made me hesitant.
"I wanted to get it right and not mess it up by over-reacting or judging someone by their race."
Mr Lawler agreed that on five separate occasions after the bombing, he made statements, verbally or in writing, where he "deliberately shortened" the time between him leaving the City Room to the bomb going off, "so no one would say, why didn't you do something?" the inquiry was told.
He added he "had a guilty feeling, I had a lot of blame on myself".

It’s clear you don’t know about trauma care if you are using the ‘other people died’ crap.
As a nurse I can tell you now one of the things the dad was speaking about a&e could have used was a level1 which pumps litres of blood, blood products and fluids into you with in minutes.
He rightly should be asking why they didn’t use it on her if she had lost so much blood already.
He rightly should be asking why no MCA responding doctor, a&e nurse or paramedic applied a tourniquet! Research has shown they can be left in place for 2hours will little problems arising and it’s after 6hours that you will have to amputate. So why the f didn’t the stem the bleeding
I applaud this family for forcing this info coming to light!
Doctors and nurses aren’t god’s and make mistakes and cost patients the lives constantly and should be held responsible for when they do!
As a nurse I fully expect to be held responsible if I was to ever harm or kill a patient through negligence or pure stupidity

@@snsn7251 and? Who cares they rightfully should be compensated esp when it turns out medical negligence caused her to die!
Why wasn’t a tourniquet used when to medically safe to do so and no damage will be caused to the limb for at least 2hours. Why didn’t the use the level1 to replace her huge loss of blood volume by pumping in blood products and fluids via a level1!
This is a disgusting example of sheer negligence and as a nurse I applaud them for fighting for the truth around their daughters death!
A needless death of a child who could have survived and that’s disgusting
When they responded there part of MCA protocol is to have all trauma equipment with them that would be needed like tourniquets etc so there is no excuse for them not having such equipment

Even in field surgery you'd use a t-shirt, a sock or hell even the persons own clothing and infections are a secondary concern as it's far more treatable than a lack of blood. You may end-up half naked from the clothing taken off you but its better than being dead. Also also, stay classy BBC for deleting the comment.
