Totally agree. His willingness to actually engage those asking the questions as long as they can have a Civil 2 way conversation is I think what our nation needs more of on both left and right. Michael doesn't just rub off their questions if they disagree with them but rather encourages civil discussion between 2 people regardless of which they agree or not with him for the better of those at the lectures. If civil discourse was more accepted over certain issues I think we would understand each other and actually deal with our issues instead of treating each other with immediate contempt. Michael definitely sets a good model if you ask me! Saying this as a moderate christian conservative

The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World
The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
This proclamation was read by the Prophet, Seer, Revelator and Church President Russell M. Nelson as part of his message at the 190th Annual General Conference, April 5, 2020, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
We solemnly proclaim that God loves His children in every nation of the world. God the Father has given us the divine birth, the incomparable life, and the infinite atoning sacrifice of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. By the power of the Father, Jesus rose again and gained the victory over death. He is our Savior, our Exemplar, and our Redeemer. Two hundred years ago, on a beautiful spring morning in 1820, young Joseph Smith, seeking to know which church to join, went into the woods to pray near his home in upstate New York, USA. He had questions regarding the salvation of his soul and trusted that God would direct him. In humility, we declare that in answer to his prayer, God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph and inaugurated the “restitution of all things” (Acts 3:21) as foretold in the Bible. In this vision, he learned that following the death of the original Apostles, Christ’s New Testament Church was lost from the earth. Joseph would be instrumental in its return. We affirm that under the direction of the Father and the Son, heavenly messengers came to instruct Joseph and re-establish the Church of Jesus Christ. The resurrected John the Baptist restored the authority to baptize by immersion for the remission of sins. Three of the original twelve Apostles-Peter, James, and John-restored the apostleship and keys of priesthood authority. Others came as well, including Elijah, who restored the authority to join families together forever in eternal relationships that transcend death. We further witness that Joseph Smith was given the gift and power of God to translate an ancient record: the Book of Mormon-Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Pages of this sacred text include an account of the personal ministry of Jesus Christ among people in the Western Hemisphere soon after His Resurrection. It teaches of life’s purpose and explains the doctrine of Christ, which is central to that purpose. As a companion scripture to the Bible, the Book of Mormon testifies that all human beings are sons and daughters of a loving Father in Heaven, that He has a divine plan for our lives, and that His Son, Jesus Christ, speaks today as well as in days of old. We declare that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, organized on April 6, 1830, is Christ’s New Testament Church restored. This Church is anchored in the perfect life of its chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ, and in His infinite Atonement and literal Resurrection. Jesus Christ has once again called Apostles and has given them priesthood authority. He invites all of us to come unto Him and His Church, to receive the Holy Ghost, the ordinances of salvation, and to gain enduring joy. Two hundred years have now elapsed since this Restoration was initiated by God the Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Millions throughout the world have embraced a knowledge of these prophesied events. We gladly declare that the promised Restoration goes forward through continuing revelation. The earth will never again be the same, as God will “gather together in one all things in Christ” (Ephesians 1:10). With reverence and gratitude, we as His Apostles invite all to know-as we do-that the heavens are open. We affirm that God is making known His will for His beloved sons and daughters. We testify that those who prayerfully study the message of the Restoration and act in faith will be blessed to gain their own witness of its divinity and of its purpose to prepare the world for the promised Second Coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I think anybody who is anti-religion just has not taken the time to think deeply about life and the deep questions. In studying astronomy I realized that there’s no way everything was created randomly - you can easily see an organization to our world and the universe. There simply has to be a purpose to us being here and a great Creator of it all.

The way I might answer his question about what makes Christian doctrine better than other religious doctrines is that Christianity does not rely on the goodness of humanity. In Christianity, it's a doctrine of grace, not works, that makes Christianity so different and amazing. The way God unites with his people in Christianity is not by human works, laws, and traditions, but by the work that God himself did through Jesus on the cross. Compared to Islam or Judaism, all they have is works and prayer to be close and accepted by God. This is significant because humans can't meet God's standard of perfection, so God saved us by his works and not ours.

Why the rest of Americans can't get it right is one issue; the fact that they end up apostatizing to The Cult of the Left as a result when they assume they lost their debates is another altogether, and EXTREMELY troubling!
Good answers, Michael, and well spoken--as far as those particular questions are framed.
But if you live in America: you REALLY need to start living The Gospel IN ACTUALITY better and stop assuming that because you don't win Fake Virtue Points in a "debate" that is in reality a gladiatorial arena where spectators come get their fill of carnage, never mind who's actually right that The Gospel must be wrong and not worth defending from evil demons who happen to be living people!
It is YOUR SOUL that's at stake and not merely the future of the country, may I remind you!

I used to be similar to Michael and had nothing good to say about religion, after going to church and Sunday school occasionally as a kid. While I'm not technically a Christian yet, I've come 180 degrees from that and have come to the conclusion that humanity will need religion as long as it's still humanity, and that a lack of it leads down a terrible path. Yes, I'm fully aware that christian nationalists think that everything would be improved if more people became religious because they think religion is a source of good. Reality is the exact opposite though. The more secular a place, the less religion is respected and enforced, the higher the standard of living, the lower the crime, the better the people. If you want to tie christian nationalism to conservatism you will get at most 20% of the votes. So conservatism will die out with christianity unless they are uncoupled.

Concerning moral kaw outside of God, it would only be arbitrary axioms given by human theory. But then one would need to value one theory over the other. I think modern life, science, and technology have confused us on what morals and value are. Because science and technology have no moral value but in essence provide knowledge and luxury. The confusion is that only those two are needed outside moral standards. It's somewhat epicurean, as long as we have material gain one and ones neighbor is happy and no standards need apply. Thus, no judge. But what is missing is that outside of materials there is inherently an assumption that one must behave towards one's neighbor, therefore a higher standard.

But it wasn't for me in the sense that and I hope this is actually readable if someone actually reads this it wasn't for me in the sense that I don't want to bow down to a deity that wishes me to be a good slave
To obey my God as a slave would obey their master
I don't want to call to a God who spends his time saying look man don't do this don't do this don't do this and don't do this and if you live right by me then you'll receive glorious reward if you don't live by me then when you die you'll go somewhere where you burn choke cry and there's no water for all of eternity and you're just going to suffer
And I get the most faiths if not all faiths they have their scare tactics you know they've got the things that I guess help keep people in line
But I came to my Nordic pagan Faith because the first bit of writing I found was the nine Noble virtues and I like that their version of ten commandments wasn't telling you what you shouldn't do it was giving you advice to live your
I can't recite the whole damn thing but suffice it to say it was things like be truthful be honorable be honest the industrious hard-working be a good samaritan

True Christianity, as Christ described, would be the Christians who have love among themselves. The Bible says “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.”-JOHN 13:34, 35.
If you're religious heads are bickering and in competition with one another, they do not represent true Christianity. Remember the apostles did this and were corrected by jesus. If those who claim to be Christian and go to war killing their fellow " Christian" they do not represent true Christianity. The role religion plays in the country? - power and money.
Which religion is unified worldwide, preaches the same doctrine ( no branching off because there's only one truth) and refuses to kill their fellow man?

This is the thing that atheists don't understand because they are atheists. We believe something because we think it is true. We also believe that what the others believe is false. And that goes for Buddhists and Hindus and any other religion. As Christians also we don't believe that we go to heaven for good deeds. We believe that Jesus paid for those things because none of us are good enough to get into heaven. So by default our belief system is very different from a Jew or a Muslim. We believe that their belief system is insufficient because it does not cover sin.

It has come to my attention that most Catholics do not understand this, but there is nothing against working on Sunday or doing things. This is for Saturday, the Sabbath, as it says in the bible remember the Sabbath. However the reason they say this is because the Catholic church loves to change the 10 commandments. Also politics isn't really based on religion as its most important aspect, it is based on control and power over area and people.

The Sabbath was a command under the law, the same law which we are no longer under. However, as it is clearly good and even necessary to have a day set aside for God and the worship of Him, the Church consecrated Sunday as that day. Sunday became a new Sabbath.

    Thou Shall not Murder...
.. murder is the actual wird, not kill... there is a difference just as in the Quran provides for "just killing".
Now, here lies the nuance and actual disagreement how the idea of what is "just killing" .. It has been interpreted in various broad ways by Christian, Muslim and Jewish LEADERS for centuries. The interpretations change & evolve/de-evolve over time based on politics and power struggles. Durknv the Crusades ..Christians & Muslims both viewed their killings of other faiths as "justified".. thd Catholics during the Inquisition felt justified killing Jews & Muslims in Spain... During the Mogul invasion of India, many Hindus were murdered and during the Ottoman expansion, Christians & Jews were slaughtered.. but as Spain, India and Turkey were stablized ... the leaders relented and stopped the persecutions of other faiths to serve their political power.
In this current era it seems that there continue to be some men who rationalize murder as "justified killing" to serve political power goals in a false veil of religious reasons.
So, we must be onguard of those who are using their selfish interpretation of religious verses as tools to instill fear and divide Brother agsinst Brother for personal gain.

Let us here observe, that a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation; for, from the first existence of man, the faith necessary unto the enjoyment of life and salvation never could be obtained without the sacrifice of all earthly things. It was through this sacrifice, and this only, that God has ordained that men should enjoy eternal life; and it is through the medium of the sacrifice of all earthly things that men do actually know that they are doing the things that are well pleasing in the sight of God. When a man has offered in sacrifice all that he has for the truth's sake, not even withholding his life, and believing before God that he has been called to make this sacrifice because he seeks to do his will, he does know, most assuredly, that God does and will accept his sacrifice and offering, and that he has not, nor will not seek his face in vain. Under these circumstances, then, he can obtain the faith necessary for him to lay hold on eternal life.
(The Prophet Joseph Smith, Lectures on Faith 6:7)

@@user-yr9lt7dz8k Joseph Smith thinks that we are evil and cannot make good choices without punishing ourselves because that is what brings us into the favor of God. That assumes that God is a punishing god. A father says as he punishes his child, this hurts me more than it does my child. So God had to have Jesus crucified to be a good parent because it hurt him to do so.
This is all wrong-headed. Punishment or hurting others is not proper instruction. People fear God instead of love him with all their heart, mind and soul because they also fear punishment from God, regardless whether they think Jesus took on their sin.
      1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; complete love drives out fear. Fear has to do with punishment, and anyone who is afraid has not been completed in love
The Crucifixion was about forgiveness, not punishment. "Forgive them for they know not what they do."

21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Of course, atheism is weak. You have to have more faith not to believe in God then to believe in God. Evidence is overwhelming that there is a creator. The heavens declare the glory of God. The fool has said in his heart there is no God. Furthermore, the Bible is not stories, they are historical events that stand the test of time. The Bible is actually ahead of its time predicting future events that we see unfolding right before our eyes.
