    Nice review! I have had some GREAT times on my WRR. Day rides, multi-day rides, camping from it and just plain old joy rides. You hit on the high points of it and you did a good job of describing how to see it's limitations. It's my only bike and that happens to fit my lifestyle, but it also makes a great compliment to your 'quiver' if you have more than one. Certainly, it covers several levels, as you said Yammie. It has the newbie covered, it has the first time dirt rider covered--with room to grow as you get better, it is a great around town bike (albeit with high seat height). It is cheap to buy, cheap to own, dead reliable, highly capable in the duel sport market. Sad that they discontinued it, but I hold out hope that there is a WR300R coming with the updated styling that you talk about, euro 5 emissions, etc.

    I own both a GS adventure bike and a WR dual sport. I started my off roading with the GS and GS trophy riders going places most wouldn’t approve of taking big ADV bikes. The WR was my Segway to a true dirtbike. I wish I’d of bought a true dirtbike after a year on it, but it’s still such a great bike that I don’t want to switch to a high maintenance dirtbike yet.

  • @Real_MisterSir
    @Real_MisterSir 3 роки тому +1

    I just wish the dual sports of today weren't as darn expensive. One of the big selling points of dual sports back in the day was that they were so cheap that anyone could go out and get one with little thought about cost. But today most middleweight naked bikes are in the same ballpark as a 300cc dual sport, which is just ridiculous considering how much physical bike you get.
    I'd love to get a WR250R but they are just too expensive for it to make sense to me, when I'm not a dedicated dirtbike enthusiast who rides trails every weekend. I just want a cool fun bike that is lightweight and invites you to take it on adventures and be convenient on a day-to-day basis.
    I think that's the main reason why dual sports are not as popular today as back in the day. They've sacrificed the approachability of being cheap and convenient, and in return they don't offer enough to justify their high price when they aren't even true dirtbikes for more pro use.

  • @Slanerislana
    @Slanerislana 3 роки тому

    this may sound weird but the WR (and dual sports in general) is my favourite kind of bikes, I live very rurally with both gravel and bad road conditions as a daily occurence. We also have a few motocross tracks nearby me and simply being able to ride my bike TO the track and then immediatly ON the track is an absolute godsend, of course you wont keep up with the purpose built dirt bikes but the one edge you have is that your hobby will be soooo much cheaper in the long run!
    There is NO way in hell I'd feel safe riding a sports bike close to my home.

    • @nathanwagner7937
      @nathanwagner7937 3 роки тому +1

      Hey Lauren, there are likely some aftermarket windscreen options for your bike, but with naked bikes wind is basically inevitable. If you’re getting beaten up by the wind try to take it slow, keep your throttle hand stable, and try tucking into your bike a bit. I find it helps a lot with stability because there’s less wind hitting your chest

    I think most people miss the true purpose of “adventure” bikes. Yami included.
    I don’t currently own or simp for ADV bikes... But I think they have a good place in the market.
    They are touring bikes that have a bit of capability to take you off road. They’re meant to be comfortable tourers that can possibly take you down a fire road or 2.
    Some ADV bikes are more off road biased (T7) than others. But all are meant to give a decent road experience over off-road.
    I think the uninformed consumer is why the ADV market gets a bad wrap. They think their 450lb ADV will be able to single track and climb gnarly hills... Which of course is not the case.

      @@scotthogan6495 So, it's super slow and doesn't have the best suspension. It's not really good for highways, but at the same time you can beat it hard. You can ride it just about anywhere you want (after changing oe tires) and it's almost maintenance free. If you are trying to teach someone to ride it's amazing. It's really comfortable for around town stuff. I've done some single track with mine and it's handled it okay. It's just the basics of dual sports. If it didn't have efi you'd assume it was from the 80's or 90's. Anyone who just wants something simple and isn't in a hurry would love one. My friend has a 14' crf250l and he said the xt just makes everything so easy. It's not gonna get there anytime soon, but it will get there. No matter where "there" is
