    Holy shit dude, first welcome back! Second, .4g and the pressure falls that fast to 45psi? That's genuinely concerning.

      Looking at the video again, there is a slight delay with that gauge on the overlay. That’s meant to report peak G through the previous corner, but it needs to accumulate a handful of data points before reporting a number. I will update the gauges in the future to show a realtime value for G, but you can get a sense for what the G is by looking at the bullseye gauge. Inner circle is 1 G and outer circle is 2.

      @@900BRZ Ah, I appreciate the clarification! I'm looking into buying one of these cars and I still am curious if you think this is a concern for weekend warriors who do backroads and mountain roads as opposed to hardcore track drivers. I've probably asked this before, so I apologize if that's the case!

      @@thegirthquake8574 No problem. For cooling, you can just watch your temps and back off if you get north of 250° F. As far as oil pressure goes, I don’t have evidence of drops on the street, but I don’t really drive hard on the street either. I know of some failures on the street, but I would expect warranty coverage in those conditions.

    Looks like lots of fun! You could pick up a little time by just shifting around 6,900 RPM and staying more in the meat of the power band.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  8 місяців тому +1

      Loads of fun!
      I don’t agree with the short shifting advice. If you look at the following chart from Toyota, you’ll see peak power (output in kW) is achieved at just over 7000 RPM. If the goal is to maximize power output, you can think of it as being in the part of the power band that gives you the highest average power.
      When I shift from redline coming out of the final turn onto the main straight, my RPMs drop just below 6000 (so a drop of roughly 1500 RPM). If I were to instead drop from 6900 to ~5400 RPM, my average power would be lower.
      I should still shift before hitting the fuel cut-off though, which I was guilty of doing a few times. Maybe optimal would be something like 7300.

      @@900BRZ Not to mention the mechanical advantage of a lower gear. About the only time a short shift makes sense is if you are trying to avoid a mid turn shift.

    I’m impressed the oil temp stayed at normal operating temp the whole time. I know it’s relatively cold outside, but still very impressive. Must of been the oil cooler they put in the second gen brz.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  8 місяців тому

      I’m running a quite large aftermarket oil cooler (Setrab Series 9 20 row cooler core) and we enjoyed ambient temps in the low 60s. Cars without oil coolers were 250°+ oil temps and in the summer (even with the factory coolant-oil heat exchanger) you can get to 280°+

    Looked like the oil pan design from the FA24 is very small. The reservoir has a small volume and it is shaped like a bowl. So if you just take the oil pan in hand and fill up with oil and tilt it in an angle, I bet you can see the pick up not fully submerge in some angles. This should show the design is flawed and oil baffles most likely won't fix it.
    Looking at other engine manufacturers, like VAG, they usually have a more generous space for the oil reservoir volume and they come with oil baffles are already included. BMW is another company known to destroy rod bearings because they don't have a good design of lub system.

      @@beancheung5682 IMO it’s still a concern if you have meaningful drops from nominal pressure. While my low pressures on this day are mid-30s, we are still seeing people regularly go lower, like my friend on the same track: ua-cam.com/video/IWhqYxfSkMI/v-deo.html

    Looks like the new oil cooler is maintaining cooler temperatures and higher oil pressure. Do you know how much cooler and how much more pressure over the other oil cooler?

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  8 місяців тому +2

      There were so many variables changed, I don’t really want to make any conclusions about specific components. Here’s the list of things that changed:
      - Ambient temp (64° F max at intake vs over 100° F in the summer)
      - 0W40 (up from 5W30)
      - Increased height core (20 rows vs 15)
      - Increased internal diameter oil lines
      - Different oil pressure sensor (Low Dollar Motorsport sensor replaced AEM sensor)
      I think the real test of the oil cooler setup will be next summer when we get high temps, but on this day we were able to maintain very reasonable temps pushing for a whole session. But so were the guys on 9-15 Jackson Racing setups. People on stock setups were seeing 250°+.

    • @900BRZ
      @900BRZ  8 місяців тому +2

      @@phelpsgarage4202 Nice, yeah the downside so far is that I’m seeing around 175° F on the highway at around 60-70° ambient. So slightly worse fuel economy and any water in the oil will evaporate slower. But overall I’m okay with that for a track oriented car.
      I’ve got another test in the works!
