I used to listen to this song when I was going through dark times (family abuse, self destruction, suicidal thoughts...). I was lost.
Now I listen to it and I cry, but of happiness, how much life has given me: a home, a husband a kid and a body and mind stability. This song helped me a lot. I could say this song gave me hopes to keep going.
    Thanks Morrisey ♥️
    Everything will be okay...

You can do anything and everything... never think because life has treated you badly you are shit... that's just circumstances around you, not you. When we are young we have no control over our lives, we just protect ourselves the best we can, we are in survival mode. You have done well, keep on believing in yourself regardless how hard it is. You are right: everything will be fine. Hugs from New Zealand.

The reason why it’s so appealing to listen to songs like this when you’re sad and down, is because even tho it’s a sad song, it’s comforting, and it’s like you’re listening to the only person who can understand you.

we all get sad and down. I hope you're felling better now. Just remember, hard work and productive discomfort kills depression and anxiety. In other words, when you feel like shit, go mow your lawn, do some dishes, or hit the gym.

‘See the life I had, could make a good man bad’
those lyrics always make me think of my Dad. He lost a daughter, he lost two wives to cancer (one being my mum at an early age) and he remains the best man I’ve met.

A friend of mine sings this whenever he feels lonely, and whenever he does you can always see the tears streaming down his face.. he tries his best not to cry whenever he sings but he just does. Unfortunately a few years ago he committed suicide, I guess he just couldn't hold it in anymore. I guess the weight of his loneliness crushed him to death.

I hear a lot of negative press about Morrissey these days, but then I see performances like this and I can't help but sympathise with the guy cause he is human. I truly do love the Deftones version, but it will never hit the same way this does. Especially in this live version, the despair and emotion in Morissey’s voice is priceless. He sings it so well like he’s hurting from the bottom of his heart, he’s clearly on the verge of crying and I think that’s beautiful. There aren’t many lyrics to the song but then again his voice describes the feeling so well, like truly just wanting one thing and one thing only. I hope everyone gets what they want 'cause this is painful

So glad the audience didn't spoil the song by singing along... Or at least if they did, it wasn't audible enough for my ears to detect.

Seriously, that trumpet at the end… very ill-fitting in my opinion (and I usually love trumpets, also with mutes). Sounds like a kazoo in this context 😂

I feel it’s a lot of emotions. Maybe a love he could never have or never had enough words to say and left the relationship just at a dead end. Then maybe him missing Johnny knowing they had problems, but still remembering them writing the song on that Summer weekend in 87

I found the Smiths accidently, they are so Underground in some countries, but their influence which they impact on me and people from GB is ennormous. I whish they could reunite and write till the end of the world.
