"We were very young, we didn't know what we were doing." Helps create 4 of the most influential albums of the decade and to this day has a legion of loyal fans (myself among them) that would give their right eye to see them perform on stage.
I don't know how things are viewed now but Strangeways did very poor in sales and among critics then and as for the other albums mainly the hardcore fans bought them, not that sales are very important but they were a pop group wanting to be stars.

hey guys. so he wears mandalas and things that have meaning around his neck does not mean he is flashy. This guy was fairly low profile and the odd guy out for years. His music now and with the smiths is one of a kind. He is definitely not a disco king if you read the books about his life. Peace out.
So?
He may dismiss The Smiths now because he's sick of talking about it, but we all know deep down it was the great love of his life and so precious to him.
Just because he doesn't like the Smiths anymore doesn't mean you can't prefer it. I think Vauxhall And I is his best record, and it is truly a great piece of work, but the other guys, especially Marr added so much that was never recovered when they broke up.
He might like the music The Smiths created together but he didnt seem to enjoy the experience with his bandmates.
Molly Jones noo wrong they fell out due to money and marr and him getting sued by the other 2 members over royalties
i think the songs were but not that band. when you're that young you play with whoever you can because there likely aren't a bunch of ultra talented musicians shopping themselves out to 17-18 year olds.
Johnny Marr and Morrissey were like best friends
No one has ever tapped into pain and emotion in lyrics like Morrisey. One of a kind, just brilliant.

His voice is just as beautiful when he speaks as it is when he sings.
Yes I agree 👍 I love his voice...
i feel like his manner of speaking has drastically changed from when he was in the smiths vs after he left. it makes me wonder if he was actually just putting on a character, going against how he's claimed that he has "never performed". but maybe he was just going through a phase, who knows

Painfully shy lol
Lmao his comments and contrarian nature do not paint him as shy at all lmao
Shy-being reserved or having or showing nervousness or timidity in the company of other people. Yeh that’s Morrissey all over😁 I’m painfully shy so I know what it feels like
I met him very briefly at Manchester Airport while waiting for my mum and dad to fly back from Jersey. I thanked him for the music from the Smiths until now and he said ' no - thank you'. He thanked me. So humble and such a lovely man. He is true and honest ,straight in what he does, says, writes, thinks. I have great respect for him. I find myself also loving Johny Marr and I so wish they were friends and that they could sit down and be OK together. To have made the music of the Smiths there had to be a friendship there at one time. I think of some one I know not speaking to her sister for 30 years over some minor issue and then he sister died. Its final. Lets hope Mossa and Johny could sit down and think of the good times, remember the bad times, but come out the other side. Morrisey you are fab. Steven
Servoboy it's Johnny, and Morrissey
apologies for the spelling.... ooops Johnny and Morrissey I stand, well sit down corrected
You seem like a really nice person yourself, Servoboy. He must have sensed that.
Aw, so great that you met him!
I “met” him before a show at Maryweather Post Pavillion, in the early 90s. About a dozen of us were fortunate enough to find out what hotel the band was staying at, so we went and stood in the parking lot by the tour bus. When Morrissey and his band came out, we kept our distance and were respectful, not rushing hm or the band. We called out to them, saying hello and asked for autographs. They totally ignored us. It was as though we were invisible. We were all floored and totally disappointed. But it got worse. As soon as they were on the bus, they busted out laughing.
He lost 12 fans that day.
We were all just kids.
This man has saved my life countless times and accompanied me in moments of total loneliness and healed my soul when it was wounded. I love you, Morrissey and I'm glad you exist.

Morrissey the quintessential Anti Rock Star, brilliant poet, fantastic crooner. The Smiths blew my mind when I first heard them. It was like Soft Punk.
I really appreciate the way he is. He has a cool outlook, he's confident while remaining humble, and strong in his convictions. I can tell he's fought hard to be unaffected by our world. He is who he is, uniquely so
He's great but not even slightly humble.
I really NEED to go see Morrissey Live before he passes from this realm. He is a very special individual indeed.

Larry King: "so you're not Smith?" It is that kind of preparation that made him a legend.
This man is my younger brother's favorite performer, songwriter, etc. He's been preaching about his greatness since the 1980's. I've been living a busy life for decades, married to my job, no time for the pleasures of life. I finally decided to take the time to look into Morrissey and I am impressed with him. I was expecting a self-important, arrogant person, which I get so tired of. On the contrary, this man is human and so humble, just like my father. I plan to start listening to all of his music and review all of his interviews. My brother has great taste in entertainment and human beings. I love that he (Morrissey) is so sensitive to animal cruelty.
You should have listened to your brother decades ago love.

@i i Exactly this. Marr knows how to play the game; he's friends with all the right people, his views are in lockstep with those of the bien pensants. I say kudos to him, he's done well for himself and his family. Morrissey, on the other hand, might be the world's greatest self saboteur, but he kowtows to no one...
Well, having never seen an interview with Morrissey, I was expecting him to be a total c**t. He came across as a lovely, honest, genuine man. Expectation challenged.
He is, and he’s dead funny listen to his interviews on the Russell Brand show he’s brilliant ofcourse nowadays as is with mainstream media if you like Morrissey you are obviously racist and attending his concerts are surely attending right wing rallies. Thers no poetry in modern life. Classic morissey
I agree with him.ibtrukh hate this world I live in now...cold, harsh and absolutely lacking class!
'if you think I'm strange, it's because I am.. "
poor guy, I feel bad that he feels hurt all the time .. it shows that we all have torments, no matter our place in this world.
I love him. He’s an absolute legend
Same ❤️
golden icon
He has the amazing mind of Morrissey in front of him . All Larry King can ask are pathetic shallow in-depth questions. Such a wasted opportunity to interview this legend.
I thought that too😔
Come on, take the stars out of your eyes, he's just an ordinary bloke isn't he really.
Yeah....I've never been impressed with King's interview style. Pretty shallow....prefer the Likes of Charlie Rose or even Trevor Noah!
@@CrossPurposes a bit boring to view people like that really
"I'm not glitzy" he said, as his many layers of necklaces jangled around over his chest, revealed by an open shirt, "I speak the words of ordinary people."
He was being ironic as he always is...and yes hes from a working class background but in 40 years he has also made money as he should that doesn't mean his songs are any less relatable , hes successful that's good not bad.
That's not glitzy...that's wearing necklaces. Theres no diamonds and gold jacket? Tf?
@@_nay__ He was making a joke , British humour , hes making fun of himself in a dry, ironic British way lost on Americans .
He's like a gay Hugh Hefner only known in England.
@@TS-qq7vr No not really lol
I had the honor of meeting him at his Hollywood home back in 2004 I think it was.. I got to hang with him and sit in his jaguar. He asked me to promise never to give that address to anyone, and I never did. Still have a Polaroid of that night.
You lucky stiff!!
he’s like the only “rock” artist that has aged like fine wine TO ME. he’s so handsome🥲🥲 i really wish i could see him live somewhere but i think that won’t be a possibility in this life, unfortunately
New album out this year, so maybe a new tour 😎
