There’s not many solos his rhythm guitar is the entire song. Absolutely the best rhythm guitar sing writer ever. All Smiths songs started with his guitar being the the song, Morrissey just added lyrics.
So sad, so touching. This song means so many different things to so many different people, all of whom have a different notion of what "getting what they want" actually means. Truly an anthem for the ages...

I love how his face shows very little emotion, he seems a little reserved. But then it all comes out through his guitar. What a wonderful way to express yourself.

+LATEON He is a legend I agree, but thankfully he is not underrated - most people rate him highly - from Noel Gallagher to the Queen...they all know him well!
I just watched Morrisey's version and then this. They're both different but equally beautiful. I can't even imagine watching them do this song together. I feel like they both play this song with such emotion because this song has taken on new meaning. If you search Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want Live on UA-cam, you get Morrisey and then Marr. They both perform the hell out of the song. It's almost creates this "This song says exactly what drove us apart. We both have what we want and now we are apart. It's bittersweet" It's truly sad and you can see it in their faces. I wonder if they think about their time in the Smiths more when they do this song than any other song.
That was so hauntingly beautiful and very well said. I hope they do think about their time in The Smiths together. But, only the good times, for a change.
Marr is the creator of the most beautiful guitar compositions of all time. The attempt to capture that feeling is why, twenty five years ago, I bought my first guitar. I have played every day since. His work still inspires and moves me. Thank you, Mr. Marr. You're amazing.
At the 4 minute mark I start to cry because this bit reminds me of a certain person who I loved so much and never knew it such a great song 🎵 Merry Christmas blessings to everyone 🇨🇦🎄♥️💗♥️💗
+franz Actually, to hear _"Ladies and gentlemen... after decades of absence... please welcome back... The Smiths",_ would be a lot better... Shame they're letting opportunity after opportunity fly by and time is running out...
I'm not a HUGE Smiths fan, but I LOVE Johnny Marr's playing style, he truly is unique. The chords he uses in this song are nothing short of beautiful, and he's capable of playing his work live with feeling that most artists can only dream of achieving on their instrument. RESPECT from Davey, Ireland... :)
Amazing song.. I know of The Smiths but I've never heard any of their songs. The chords in this song are, for me, so deep and melancholy, I hasten a tear or two, it reminds me of past tragedies, losing loved ones, or a lost moment in time that could've changed my future ... Johnny Marr has wonderful phrasing ... so moving.
I have watched this at least ten times already and not sick of it! His guitar playing is so mesmerizing and I didn't know Marr could sing! I have been enjoying seeing him play without a band and never really knew how great his guitar playing is. I wish it was more noticeable in the Smiths albums! Great artist!
This is my all-time favorite song and if you had asked me before I saw this if anyone should ever sing this song but Morrissey, I would have said no. And been wrong. Johnny's soul is as much a part of the song as Morrissey's and it comes through in that rendition. For over thirty years now that song has been the song for me and to have this version appear is a gift. I will come back to watch again and again.
In a band each member has a role but as evident from this beautiful rendition it does not mean that's all they're capable of. Johnny put over that song masterfully and gave us a glimpse of how talented he is
I was in tears by the end of then song. Wow, amazing version. I've been listening to this song since I was a kid, loved it then, and it sounds better each year. Top shelf!
I love how he’s not afraid to use simple chords in his records. Like how he knows all about inversions and extensions and so forth, and knows when to pull back and play some open chords instead. Really powerful stuff.

Johnny Marr, thank you for everything. It changed my life ... listening to that guitar, and yes, Morrissey was impactful too, but I remember telling my friends in the 80s ... wait for it, listen to Marr
I think this is better than the original. I know Marr isn't as good a vocalist as Morrissey, but he's still a good singer, and moreover the guitars on this are as good as on any performance he's ever given. The way the meandering, teasing opening segues into the song, the superb solo, plus the beautiful ending he's given it, with THAT final chord. Perfection.
Jesus, this is bringing back a flood of memories....of me laying on my bed, depressed and teen angsty and the lyrics resonating so deeply within me. Thank you Johnny for the guitar that tore at my heart and Moz for putting my laments into words.

Very few songs move me to tears and this is one of them. For having sad lyrics, and the music being angelic. Thank you Mr. Marr you are the creator of my part of my youth soundtrack.
Marr does a great job with the vocals. I never knew he could sing so well.
