There are people out there who pay $1300 for IPhones solely for their cameras. Even at $800 I would say that isn't horrible. I assume they'd offer warranties and have new parts as long as people support the project

I have a Rollei 35, which my dad bought in the early 1970's and later gave to me. He and I have taken a lot of great pictures with it. It is hard to use, and you can't take pictures quickly. The viewfinder is hard to use, and there is no rangefinder, so you have to guess the distance to your subject and turn the focus ring to the estimated distance. It's best used in good light, where you can stop down and get a wide depth of field. Forget about getting good bokeh. The Zeiss Tessar 40mm f3.5 lens is very sharp, though.

800usd is pretty steep, that will be like 1200 AUD..... Would love one but that's gonna be a stretch for a lot of people at that price point unfortunately

I think the coolest and cheaper alternative to that is Olympus 35RC wich is a bit bigger but still pretty small.

I hope Nikon could make an F7 with modern features such as highlight metering, TTL, USB charging, Multi-CAM 37K autofocus module, etc., but in the form factor of the original Nikon F.

I'm not holding my breath over this Mint future offering. What little real info about it is available suggests that it will be a Rollei 35 small sized camera. It will be a molded plastic body, like a Minox 35 or Olympus XA. It will not have a self-casing feature like those two cameras, but will need a covering case or pouch, like the Rollei 35. It will probably have a leaf shutter, with manual and auto-exposure controls, which is a step up from these other cameras, which have either manual (Rollei) or auto exposure (XA and Minox), but not both. It will have a minimal, inexpensive lens design (as do all other Mint cameras), although for the target price, I'd expect a lens equal to a lesser Rollei but better than an XA. One thing elsewhere specified is LIDAR based auto-focus. That would be disproportionately expensive and unnecessary in a camera like this, as it would perform about the same as a conventional active infrared focus system and be subject to all the limitations of that inexpensive system. If this proves to be a fair summary of the proposed camera, what we are talking about it a smaller but hugely overpriced point-n-shoot performing about like dozens of cameras from the 1980s.
