Rollei 35, the ultimate street camera or just a gimmick?

- Rollei 35 is one of those cameras. Everyone seems to love it but I've rarely seen people using it for a long time. I got mine around a year ago, and I like it a lot. This video is my experience with this camera after using it for a year.
Thank you for explaining distance and light.
I know maybe it was obvious to talk about zone focusing technique and sunny 16 rules, but it helped me better organize this video
F8 and 6 meters works on 200 iso film?
Interesting video! Pics were very awesome.
Thanks man 👊
thanks for this video it was very enjoyable. great job
Thanks for watching
I was late teens when it came out it was VERY popular with backpackers and climbers
With its small size and no rangefinder to go out of calibration it totally makes sense
These cameras are marvels of engineering. Your version has the zeiss Tessar F3.5 lens made by Rollei. I have the 35 SE which has the 40mm F2.8 HFT Sonnar. This lens is pretty special, and I have seen the LTM versions of this lens advertised for anything between $1000~$2500.00 to fit the Leica cameras. They are truly pocket cameras.
Interesting! love the idea of Rollei lens convertef to LTM or Leica M mount
pleze tell what app is that
This is the nicest film camera I have ever seen. I wish they weren't so expensive and hard to find globally. I would love one of these one day. I think FujiFilm should make their next X100VII this small. Ha ha
These are fine cameras, not the best, but cool and fun to use! I really wish one of the big companies could bring back Rollei 35 or some of other famous cameras from the film era! I guess we have to wait and see
Yeah, it would be nice for them to rerelease this. I can’t see them being very expensive to make. Even cooler would be a digital camera in this size. It’s an engineering marvel
My Rollei chews up the film, "Gimmick "
Good review 👍
Thanks 👍
Where did you get the focal range chart at 3:44? is that from an app? Thank you
It's from an iphone app called TrueDOF. I'm pretty sure a lot of other similar apps exist that do the same thing
Weird little camera, but cool. Nice colour shots!
Thank you!
Does anyone know what app he was using for aperture and focusing
It's called TrueDoF
@@frozenf8thank you, very helpful video!
Thanks for watching
You can replace the battery, a 675V will do just fine with a rubber ring or an adapter. Mine works perfectly, it's a great camera for street photography.
Thanks, already using an adapter.
I use a (knock off) black rapid style camera strap. Or keep it in a belt pouch or fanny pack
I think I should do the same, I don't like wrist straps
I want to love the Rollei but three (mint) have broken down on me. Fun design but it’s the Olympus XA and 35RC for me from now on..
I heard a couple of times people talking about their Rollei 35 breaking on them. I guess I should be more careful now! Did you ever try to repair yours? Do you know what part of camera had the issue?
I really don't understand the hype with these rolleis, I've got a few of them in my collection but will never use them. Personally I think they are an ergonomic disaster, very prone to breaking down, unpractical zone focussing (unless you're the kind of photographer who wants everyting in focus by stopping down and allways have enough light). Yes they are small, yes they have good lenses, but there are so many better cameras in the price range of what is being paid for them these days, the 35's are big no-no for me. Maybe it's the right camera for some people, but don't get fooled by the hype. Sorry if this may offend some of the rollei users, but with aparantly only good reviews raving about the 35, I had to get this off my chest.
I understand what you're saying, and like I said in the video the zone focus system was one of my doubts about it. I got this one mainly because of curiosity and I used it a lot like you said: stopped down and everything in focus. In the end while I'm not saying it's the best camera, I don't think it's that bad! it's usable for certain type of photography. That's all I'm saying!
Ive been debating on this camera for a while. I have an Olympus XA, which I love! Best image quality between the two cameras?
@@63MacGuy I never tried Olympus XA, but I've seen several reviews about it, one of them is by Mattias Burling that I think he compared it with Rollei 35. I think the most obvious difference is the zone focus vs rangefinder but I wouldn't worry too much about the image quality difference.
Bro just use ur phone camera
i dont have a phone camera
I don't have a camera phone
Bro, phone camera is just a step away from AI. It is best left for trend setters of Insta, not photographers.
Trash.
