After this extra long (for me) fast my inflammation as measured by "aches and pains" is nearly gone. After 2 years of IF and quite a few 3-5 day fasts I did have _some_ joint and random muscle pain reduction, but not like this. I feel 30, again! So, these things are true to a degree, but going all-in to the full extent of your ability really does make a difference.

Then you must be American, because normal food with quite some complex carbs seems not to be available there. Not really sustainable, animal-considering. Some leading gerontoligists abstain mostly from animal-based food.
It is truly traumatic to grandkids when grand-pa and grand-ma begin to look the same 😊😊. I got to do something about it.. for which i am , thanks to the vids.
My Dad dying at 63 from cancer, after smoking and drinking a lot for decades, robbed his children and grandchildren compared to living to a more normal 85 years old. Former President Carter will be 100 years old in a few days, and he was very active to his 90s. It is nice his great grandchildren got more time with him.
This was a great motivator to keep going with my (keto diet) time restricted eating - 2 meals only at 10 am/10.30 am and 5 pm. Feel so much better giving my gut a big rest. 😊
Thats what I do. I don't eat at home in tye morning, I take my yogurt with chia with to the office, I am busy with work for the most part, sometimes I forget i had to eat until almost 1pm. I then eat my yogurt, have another tiny meal perhaps a couple hours later and then have dinner mostly before 8 pm (just because my commute doesn't allow for earlier meal). I also learned that most times if you have cravings in the evening, especially if you had a filling dinner, it is very ofter thirst. Drink water, drink some mineral rich water (that's what I do, plenty of that in Europe) - and my craving is satisfied. Oftentimes evening hunger is simply masked thirst
I stumbled into fasting and it’s benefits by happen chance. I was in the hospital for bleeding from my gut (which led to a Crohn’s diagnosis). They wouldn’t let me eat because they were planning a colonoscopy. Well they kept making me wait longer and longer. I had the traditional thinking - ain’t I going to die, you have to let me eat! Well at 36 hrs I noticed I was not hungry any more. When I was let out I hadn’t eaten for around 48 hrs. At that point I notice I felt GREAT! A lot of other symptoms that I had were gone or much less. That led me down the you tube rabbit whole of fasting (and this channel). I usually only eat once a day and often times skipping a day. I try to do a long fast (~10 days) once per year. And will do short 3 day fast thru out the year. If for some reason I have a higher carb day, I follow that with at least 36 -48hr fast.
Your body could survive for abt 30 days without food until you die, abt 3 days without water until you die. Look at all them holocaust prisoners. They were skin & bones & they survived. Well, some did die.
Najczęściej jem 4h dziennie i 20h postu. Ostatnio do tego dodałem soboty bez żadnego jedzenia. POLECAM! Jadłem w 4 godziny dużo jedzenia najczęściej wieczorem i teraz dzięki sobocie wolnej od jedzenia jem mniej
Great video with one mistake (16 min). Natural fasting begins not when we stop eating but several hours later when digestion has finished and we only use our stored energy.
I bloat, feel horrible, get wooly headed and generally have an allergic reaction to carbs. Started with keto, but still had stomach problems. I mean, lettuce would give me gas. 😊 So I started carnivore, and have lost 6kg in four months, no bloating and can focus so much better. I’m not saying it’s for everyone. I just used it to see which foods were bad for me - mild chilli sauce is off the menu 😢, for example. Sorry to go off on a tangent.
The audio needs an upgrade, not centered in terms of stereo (in the left in headphones) and levels are clipping and causing distortion. Otherwise I love these videos
Hej Sten did you ever do a video on oxalates? Would really wanna hear your opinion since Im suffering from oxalate poisoning from all the so called "health" food
Thank You @danield1262. I have not done a dedicated video on oxalates, but I have touched on it in half a dozen videos. Many people have problems with oxalates so I typically don't recommend spinach. It is usually related to the type and balance of bacteria in your gut. I might make a dedicated video. 😄
If you don’t have problems with dairy, then it’s good to eat some cheese or dairy with any oxalate foods. The calcium in the dairy helps process the oxalates, from making crystals and then helps to excrete them? The other thing that is important is to improve your microbiome. Add probiotics, and also some B6. Also, if you can drink a glass of water with lemon, any way to get in citric acid. Citric acid dissolves the crystals. Can also take calcium citrate. (Some people eat a bit of raw onion regularly, as that also might help to break up stones and crystals.) There is also a supplement called Chanca Piedra. I am no doctor etc. This is just what I have been discovering while researching because of past issues that I have had with oxalates. So passing it on.
Dr Ekberg, I am so confused how to break my fast! Listening to you, the way is to feel full and have two meals after fast and no snack! But then some say don’t have a big meal after fast!! Better to have something light and eat in two hours again!! Can you please let us know the best way of eating after breaking a fast? Much appreciated Dr Ekberg
Hello Dr. I consider that your video has been so interesting and useful for me, you have explained so clearly this topic including several suggestions to improve a healthy life style. Tthank you so much.
I love what you share, thank you. This was very helpful, you are right on when it comes to challenges to fasting… I wonder what’s behind your statement abut grandchildren being traumatized by more androgynous presenting grandparents, I bet you have a theory! Can’t wait to hear about it.
For anyone who can’t quit sugar because they love their cream-sugar coffee in the mornings, please switch the sugar to monk fruit. You’ll find it in large chain grocery stores. It’s also available through online stores. I keep packets in my car in case I stop for coffee outside of my home. Seriously, the only way to end cravings is to stop consuming sugar. Try the monk fruit sweetener if your strongest tie to sugar is coffee or tea. It’s not one of those synthetic, toxic sweeteners. As for the other stuff, watch Dr. Ekberg’s other videos, if you haven’t yet.
Fasting during sleep means all activities of body are partially suspended. This means that the body requires less energy. Fasting will only help at day time when our body works and consume stored energy. This is what I believe. Please guide. thanks
Thank you, Dr Ekberg! IF and low carb works best for me. Lately I've been hearing a lot about the importance of protein, especially for menopausal women, and the need to eat more meals. I can't lose weight this way. How much protein do you recommend to keep and build muscle while losing fat?
Thank you very much for the video and for the nice and engaging lecture. 🙂 Thank you again for the Czech subtitles 👍 Please always add Czech subtitles. I have a full disability pension and watch your videos for health reasons... Unfortunately my English is not so good that I can watch your videos without subtitles. Thank you. I share. I'd like you to do a segment on leg pain that doesn't go away no matter what I do. My doctor just kept upping my ropinorole and gabapentin. I finally threw those in the trash as they did nothing. Changing doctor to see if someone actually cares. I am diabetic and my lady doctor told me to stop doing finger sticks unless I thought my blood sugar was low. That was the last straw.
You do such a great job of simplifying eating. I know when you talk about fasting many people just hear “don’t eat.” Thank you for taking the time to explain what most doctors don’t take time or just don’t know what to say. I took your 30-day challenge to quit sugar and it has had such a positive impact. I feel amazing.
mostly I eat my breakfast at 12am, and then second time I eat between 6 - 8 pm. I eat twice a day, and my eating window is about 15:9, or 16:.I'm never hungry.
@Kickassyourcomfortzone I just finished a 36hr fast. The body increases ghrelin as a hunger cue around your normal eating times. Just keep yourself busy during that time and it will pass. It's a great reset. Some ppl find a little bit of butter helps to extend it till they can get used to not eating. Eating low carb lifestyle helps. It's more of a mind over body thing. 😊
First night is the hardest to go through. Then the following morning I treat it as any other fasting day. I also do a workout so that I get unto autophogy faster. Drink heaps of water or tea to get through the hunger times.
Ive been doing IF for about 6 years. I eat two meals a day instead of 3. Sometimes i have a snack in between but not always. I typically eat my first meal around 7-8 am and yhe second meal between 2-4pm. Then nothing after 4 unless im super hungry for some reason but thats rare. If i have an event like a wedding where i will be eating much later then i push breakfast back a few hours. Caloric beverages are also a no no during your fasting window
Same. I try to finish eating by 4pm and breakfast at 8am. I'll have a little something at 12ish to help with the hormone balance and to help get enough protein. I sleep better with enough protein I've found.
I am just now waking up to how bad my diet has been, I am 70, 6'2 and 240 of blubber. Many mornings I eat Huevo Rancheros, or just a bagel w/cream cheese, I do good for lunch usually a salad with lots of spinach, but dinner and later is where I fall apart, heavy meals and then carbohydrate rich salty snacks )TV seems to be a trigger to eat). I am working on changing this but its very difficult after a lifetime of poor food choices.
Thank you for the video. Really enjoy your channel. Tired of being 50 - 60 lbs overweight at 56. On day 5 of intermittent fasting …I seem to have naturally drifted to a 19:5. I don’t drink soda and I drink very little juice. Mostly water. But…I do drink 2-4 regular beers a day…sometimes more. Decided to stop that along with the intermittent fasting over 6 weeks and then reassess my overall lifestyle. My diet is pretty healthy. Quality Fats & protein complex carbs. Working out with anaerobic and aerobic weight training 4-5 days a week. Already feel great. Can you give me an idea of any additional average outcomes I might see or feel over the next remaining 5 1/2 weeks? I’m sure you may not have the time so I understand if you can’t answer. Thank you again. Wish you the best. 👍🏼😄💪🏼 Dave
Great video overall, but you really missed the mark on protein intake imo. We should be very specific and aware of how much protein we need to consume. The RDA is way too low imo (0.8 grams per Kg of bodyweight). Older adults (65+) should be consuming 1-1.2, and active people that exercise often should be consuming 1.2-2 depending on training intensity and goals. I am very active. I lift weight and do some cardio. I consume at least 2 grams of protein per kilogram, or 1 gram per pound of bodyweight roughly.
Doc can you do a video about whiskey and cholesterol? I drink 1 dram (2 oz) of whiskey before bedtime. My cholesterol has been ok for years using a statin. Recently my LDL went up and why wife blames the whiskey, but i know it has to be diet and lack if exercise. Male, 58, Average Diet, Low Exercise.
I am starting right now with a 9 to 5 mentality 😄 and on my way to downsizing. P.S. Thanks a lot for speaking Dutch! I like that so much. Kind of weird it is your voice, but I think it is funny of AI.
I wish I could fast. I get low blood sugar and get terrible symptoms when I go too long without eating. I wish I lived near you so you could be my doctor. Doctors do not care enough to figure thigs out for patients.
From what I understand, when blood sugar is low, do a brief workout, jumping jacks, push ups, jog in place, something. The body will pull glucose from fat storage. Barbara Oneill has an excellent video explaining the biological process.
Thank you for your encouragement regarding intermittent fasting. I'm currently following a 16:8 schedule but find it difficult to extend my fasting window to 18:6 due to my small appetite, I have to have three meals a day. I'm worried that three meals within 6 hours might lead to higher blood sugar levels especially as a vegetarian with a 40% carbohydrate intake. Would it be beneficial to incorporate three moderate carb meals within my 6-hour eating window and extending my fasting window to 18:6 ? Please advice.

Organic Pasture Raised Chicken , Wild salmon , tuna , grass fed steaks with lots of good fats is working for me .
Then you must be American, because normal food with quite some complex carbs seems not to be available there. Not really sustainable, animal-considering. Some leading gerontoligists abstain mostly from animal-based food.
Watch out for the mercury in the tuna if you eat it a lot
It is truly traumatic to grandkids when grand-pa and grand-ma begin to look the same 😊😊. I got to do something about it.. for which i am , thanks to the vids.
My Dad dying at 63 from cancer, after smoking and drinking a lot for decades, robbed his children and grandchildren compared to living to a more normal 85 years old. Former President Carter will be 100 years old in a few days, and he was very active to his 90s. It is nice his great grandchildren got more time with him.
Thank You @dancunchiriga. LOL 😄
This was a great motivator to keep going with my (keto diet) time restricted eating - 2 meals only at 10 am/10.30 am and 5 pm. Feel so much better giving my gut a big rest. 😊
Dziekuje Bardzo za Cenne Infirmacje Pozdrawiam Serdecznie ❤
BTW, higher carb day to me is anything over 30-40 g. I usually try to keep it to 20 g or less
Your body could survive for abt 30 days without food until you die, abt 3 days without water until you die. Look at all them holocaust prisoners. They were skin & bones & they survived. Well, some did die.

Love all your teachings. Thanks so much
Great video with one mistake (16 min).

Me too since I have CKD3😢
Yeah I got arthritis from old ski accidents I’m careful which vegetables I eat anything high in oxalate no thank you
Thank You @danield1262.

Fantastic. Thank you Doctor Ekberg

Please make a video about supplements used for bodybuilding like whey protein, keratin...
you don't need them.
Thank you very much for the video and for the nice and engaging lecture. 🙂

I would rather live a quality life than yearning to live a hundred years. Anyway, Dr. Ekberg's advice is insightful. Thanks doc.
They tend to go together.

Thank you very much for everything this channel has helped me a lot!
I'm doing 21:3 with keto, I lost 7,2 kg in 20 days.
My grandmother-in-law is 98 and lives in rural Philippines.
mostly I eat my breakfast at 12am, and then second time I eat between 6 - 8 pm. I eat twice a day, and my eating window is about 15:9, or 16:.I'm never hungry.
I do a 40hr fast once a week, and the other days 18/6. Weekends I don't fast as strictly, maybe 14hr.
Wow, I can get to 20hr fast, but I’ll push for 40-48 soon!
how could you sleep with hunger? :O
@@kiainfpe9 kool thank u!
First night is the hardest to go through. Then the following morning I treat it as any other fasting day. I also do a workout so that I get unto autophogy faster. Drink heaps of water or tea to get through the hunger times.
My aunty 100+ still with no health issue ,my neighbour 104 he told me last month he has got zero health prob

I love your videos.
They are so helpful in so many ways.
I was wondering if you could do one on how too much east in our stomach affects our body.
Dr. Ekberg can you do a video on how to eat as an athlete? I would really appreciate your view on this🙏
I am just now waking up to how bad my diet has been, I am 70, 6'2 and 240 of blubber.

Male, 58, Average Diet, Low Exercise.
congratulations for the videos on the channel. A question: can I still train by fasting in the morning? Thank you.
I am starting right now with a 9 to 5 mentality 😄 and on my way to downsizing.
P.S. Thanks a lot for speaking Dutch! I like that so much. Kind of weird it is your voice, but I think it is funny of AI.
Key is not to spike your sugar. Less spike less fat.
Good Luck people.
