He have a sound mind, I cater that from playing dominoes and chess. No medication, no diet! I always eat after 8 pm. Usually 10pm. Never had an appetite in the morning, and I like zero calorie black coffee. So I went with my strengths rather than fight my lifelong habits. Get up , read the paper, do this, do that, and don't eat anything till 2pm or later. So 10pm to 2PM is a 16 hour fast, which I do 7 days a week. It is my lifestyle now. I started May 1 this year at 190 lbs. Now 172. I'm 74.

*Because you taught me how to do this, Dr. Ekberg:* I just wrapped up a *_9-day_* fast (black morning coffee and herbal tea - can't do plain water!). I'm 52 and generally eat a clean, omnivorous, whole food diet, IF regularly for last 2 years, prolonged fast (previously 3-5 days) maybe once a month. After this extra long (for me) fast my inflammation as measured by "aches and pains" is nearly gone.
After 2 years of IF and quite a few 3-5 day fasts I did have _some_ joint and random muscle pain reduction, but not like this. I feel 30, again! So, these things are true to a degree, but going all-in to the full extent of your ability really does make a difference.

I found that eating a can of sardines most days and taking turmeric pills stopped all my knee and back pains, at 60 years old. I am 65 now with no pain. I also walk about 2 miles a day, and hang by my hands from the top of a doorway every day to stretch my shoulders and back. A few years ago this fixed a frozen shouder.

I do IF usually eat once a day at 3pm. Also have coffee with thick cream once a day in the morning. I keep thinking I would like to do a longer fast but worry it might make me too weak. I am 85 but feel much younger. Do you stay at home and rest when you do an extended fast? I would be grateful for any advice. 😊

@@jeffruebens8355 Excellent! That's truly remarkable and what an example to those around you!
I'm still re-feeding and just had a large mug of homemade bone broth blended with a "thumb" of fresh turmeric and half an avocado. Aiming to keep the inflammation down as I re-feed and beyond!
I, too, walk every day since we have a 2 year old rambunctious Labrador! And my husband installed a hang bar just last year that I use to hang and do a couple of chin ups. Pullups are harder; I can only do one of those.
MDs will tell you what you've done for your shoulder and pain is impossible. What a waste of a million dollar education!

@@christinesmith9993 My mom is 77 and started a fasting lifestyle with me when I did 2 years ago. She's done 5-day fasts with no loss of energy or strength. In fact, she feels amazing! She does OMAD or 2MAD most days, but she just did a 36 hour one to reset.
I am a homestead wife so I'm always at home. My activity remains the same, no need to cut back for me. My mom, too, just goes about her life. She even had a severe stroke 8 years ago and has to deal with that, too. No "extra" problem for her to fast.
You can do it. Listen to your body; it knows what you're capable of even if "you" don't yet! Blessings!!!

I then eat my yogurt, have another tiny meal perhaps a couple hours later and then have dinner mostly before 8 pm (just because my commute doesn't allow for earlier meal).
I also learned that most times if you have cravings in the evening, especially if you had a filling dinner, it is very ofter thirst. Drink water, drink some mineral rich water (that's what I do, plenty of that in Europe) - and my craving is satisfied. Oftentimes evening hunger is simply masked thirst

I stumbled into fasting and it’s benefits by happen chance. I was in the hospital for bleeding from my gut (which led to a Crohn’s diagnosis). They wouldn’t let me eat because they were planning a colonoscopy. Well they kept making me wait longer and longer. I had the traditional thinking - ain’t I going to die, you have to let me eat! Well at 36 hrs I noticed I was not hungry any more. When I was let out I hadn’t eaten for around 48 hrs. At that point I notice I felt GREAT! A lot of other symptoms that I had were gone or much less. That led me down the you tube rabbit whole of fasting (and this channel). I usually only eat once a day and often times skipping a day. I try to do a long fast (~10 days) once per year. And will do short 3 day fast thru out the year. If for some reason I have a higher carb day, I follow that with at least 36 -48hr fast.

Thank You @danield1262. I have not done a dedicated video on oxalates, but I have touched on it in half a dozen videos. Many people have problems with oxalates so I typically don't recommend spinach. It is usually related to the type and balance of bacteria in your gut. I might make a dedicated video. 😄

If you don’t have problems with dairy, then it’s good to eat some cheese or dairy with any oxalate foods. The calcium in the dairy helps process the oxalates, from making crystals and then helps to excrete them? The other thing that is important is to improve your microbiome. Add probiotics, and also some B6. Also, if you can drink a glass of water with lemon, any way to get in citric acid. Citric acid dissolves the crystals. Can also take calcium citrate. (Some people eat a bit of raw onion regularly, as that also might help to break up stones and crystals.) There is also a supplement called Chanca Piedra. I am no doctor etc. This is just what I have been discovering while researching because of past issues that I have had with oxalates. So passing it on.

For anyone who can’t quit sugar because they love their cream-sugar coffee in the mornings, please switch the sugar to monk fruit.
You’ll find it in large chain grocery stores. It’s also available through online stores.
I keep packets in my car in case I stop for coffee outside of my home.
Seriously, the only way to end cravings is to stop consuming sugar. Try the monk fruit sweetener if your strongest tie to sugar is coffee or tea. It’s not one of those synthetic, toxic sweeteners.
As for the other stuff, watch Dr. Ekberg’s other videos, if you haven’t yet.

@Kickassyourcomfortzone I just finished a 36hr fast. The body increases ghrelin as a hunger cue around your normal eating times. Just keep yourself busy during that time and it will pass. It's a great reset. Some ppl find a little bit of butter helps to extend it till they can get used to not eating. Eating low carb lifestyle helps. It's more of a mind over body thing. 😊

I typically eat my first meal around 7-8 am and yhe second meal between 2-4pm. Then nothing after 4 unless im super hungry for some reason but thats rare. If i have an event like a wedding where i will be eating much later then i push breakfast back a few hours. Caloric beverages are also a no no during your fasting window

I am just now waking up to how bad my diet has been, I am 70, 6'2 and 240 of blubber. Many mornings I eat Huevo Rancheros, or just a bagel w/cream cheese, I do good for lunch usually a salad with lots of spinach, but dinner and later is where I fall apart, heavy meals and then carbohydrate rich salty snacks )TV seems to be a trigger to eat). I am working on changing this but its very difficult after a lifetime of poor food choices.

Thank you for the video. Really enjoy your channel.
Tired of being 50 - 60 lbs overweight at 56.
On day 5 of intermittent fasting …I seem to have naturally drifted to a 19:5.
I don’t drink soda and I drink very little juice. Mostly water. But…I do drink 2-4 regular beers a day…sometimes more.
Decided to stop that along with the intermittent fasting over 6 weeks and then reassess my overall lifestyle.
My diet is pretty healthy. Quality Fats & protein complex carbs.
Working out with anaerobic and aerobic weight training 4-5 days a week.
    Already feel great.
Can you give me an idea of any additional average outcomes I might see or feel over the next remaining 5 1/2 weeks?
I’m sure you may not have the time so I understand if you can’t answer.
    Thank you again.

Great video overall, but you really missed the mark on protein intake imo. We should be very specific and aware of how much protein we need to consume. The RDA is way too low imo (0.8 grams per Kg of bodyweight). Older adults (65+) should be consuming 1-1.2, and active people that exercise often should be consuming 1.2-2 depending on training intensity and goals. I am very active. I lift weight and do some cardio. I consume at least 2 grams of protein per kilogram, or 1 gram per pound of bodyweight roughly.

I'm currently following a 16:8 schedule but find it difficult to extend my fasting window to 18:6 due to my small appetite, I have to have three meals a day. I'm worried that three meals within 6 hours might lead to higher blood sugar levels especially as a vegetarian with a 40% carbohydrate intake.
Would it be beneficial to incorporate three moderate carb meals within my 6-hour eating window and extending my fasting window to 18:6 ? Please advice.
