      I doubt very much indeed that the Federation still exist 950+ Year past 2258ish - They should exist in some form upto the 29th century - but after that "shrugs" I consider very likely they will be the villains and we will get a recover the federation Andromeda style plot.
      As for the 1000 years in a Nebula thing - yeah they could leave her in the Nebula until she reaches the stage of development that she can activate and control the spore drive herself (sort of bill and ted territory - you say "we will leave the ship here until she can think for herself and run the spore drive - then she can jump back in time to this point") That idea is naturally about as d about as desirable as Light speed ramming is in your fiction.
      But I can see it as one way to make both things happen. - the other alternative is Burnham can't get the suit to go back in time so to send a message to spock she takes the Discovery once Stamets is better send him a message and then dumps the ship then jumps back to the future to pick it up in it's evolved state - now if she knows it would evolve is a whole other question.
      What we do know is Burnham is on her own and the ship arrives elsewhere ; so that might tie in and it might have nothing to do with Burnham (for a change) it might be some plan Saru cooks up.

    We need a humorous short trek with about two of three temporal agents discussing various time incidents while on a break. They could pick side who was best and worst at handling temporal crises, giving their examples why Kirk or Janeway etc. was the worst to work with. Perhaps slipping a line, like "and just don't tell me about the red angel fiasco" or some thing like this. I could end with a scene with an time event alert and visuals for said red angel appearing on the viewscreen and with one of the guys saying "no, not again" for bonus chuckles. ;-)

    Calypso is my favorite of all of the Short Treks. It’s beautiful tie ins to 1950s science fiction, Homer, and other classical works.

      Unless some element of Control survives into the era the Discovery finds itself. The Shere data except to the scientific community has no relevance. Nor would it be some embarrassing scandal to that era Starfleet, for the supposed destroyed Discovery to show up on its doorstep. However, what would be a disturbance to the balance of power between the Federation and her rivals and put the Discovery in danger, would again be the Spore drive. the nearest thing to a working Iconian gateway. in the known universe.

    The start of these 1000 years was never actually specified, those 1000 years can start whenever, not necessarily at the time we are/have been watching now, that was just an assumption we all made at that time. Discovery can go on as long and wild as they like as the starting point of these 1000 years is open. That's pretty cool from a story telling perspective. Can't wait what they come up with next.

    My theory: Discovery does arrive in the 33rd century and towards the end of season 3, Empress Georgiou must return to the 23rd century for some reason. She takes Discovery back in time, but hides the ship somewhere where the crew of Discovery can recover it immediately after she departs with the ship.

    I don't think it will necessarily set up the origin of the Temporal Cold War - Daniels came from the 31st century where time travel tech already existed, Discovery jumped to the 32nd century - But they could possibly still play a role since the factions in the war all came from different centuries.

    Good theories,Ketwolski! I wish they would bring back the story of the temporal cold war. I would love to find out who was behind it. I think you're right about the Calypso Short Trek playing some kind of part.
    But if that's true,then the Harry Mudd one must have some part to play in Discovery season 3 too,right? Hey,what about this,maybe the Discovery runs across one of Mudd's android selves in the future? Or what if that Short Trek with Mudd was also set in the future? What do you think,Ketwolski?
    That Mudd Short Trek could be set in the future. Androids can live for a really long time. Also,that future glimpsed at in the Calypso Short Trek might not exist anymore. Control was stopped and Discovery went to the future so the timeline's been altered again.
    So you have to take that into account too. Calypso could've just been a glimpse into what might've been if Control hadn't been stopped and it got its hands on that sphere data. But the timeline's been messed with again so who knows if the Calypso episode means anything at all anymore. LLAP 🖖,Ketwolski.

      One more to add into your video: Georgiou uses the discovery to travel back in time to the 2250's so she can be in the S31 show and leaves the Discovery in a Nebula for 1000 years so the crew can find it in the future.

    • @StarTrekTheory
      @StarTrekTheory 5 років тому +2

      @@Ketwolski That's a really great idea actually! Could get it all lined up chronologically - altho somehow Georgio doesn't seem the type to 'leave it alone' - it could be cool if she went back in time, used the ship for a while and brought it to the nebula as an old woman, fulfilling her promise to the crew in the future and leaving it there for them.

    I'm slowly getting more excited and less wary for season 3. I really loved season 1 and most of season 2. It was really just the end of season 2 with them all promising never to talk about Discovery that annoyed me. But then I think there is a lot still to be explored from season 2 that season 3 will probably get into. I just don't like the idea of a Federation that has lost its way or fallen apart on its own. I think it needs an outside influence that has caused it to collapse in some way, because at the end of the day the Federation is always meant to represent us as the best we can be, if that involves falling apart from the inside, that has some pretty pessimistic implications.

  • @thedoctor101fez
    @thedoctor101fez 5 років тому

    could it be possible that the change in show runners meant that this episode became a loose-end they are gonna ignore? Like there is a lot from S2ep1 that doesn't really work 100% with the end of the season (e.g. why did all the signals appear at once and then one by one again later?)

    • @Ketwolski
      @Ketwolski  5 років тому

      To answer your question about the show runners: Kurtzman was heavily involved with the development of Disco S2 & S3, along with the currently released Short Treks. Michelle Paradise stepping into the show runner role wont, in my opinion, blatantly override Calypso's story without formally coming forward and saying as much. That opinion is based on Kurtzmans leadership still being used and how much the other Short Treks impacted Discovery already. As for the signal situation, that is a huge plot hole that I cant understand either...however It makes me wonder if they will possibly explain that in S3.

    One thing in the last episode of season 2 that confuses me is when Georgiou confronts Leland while he is looking for the sphere data on Discovery. He can’t find it and she tells him something she wouldn’t be foolish enough to leave in the ship and then holds up something inferring that the sheer data is in it. So, if she had the data in that device, why didn’t they just destroy it?

    • @Ketwolski
      @Ketwolski  5 років тому

      If I remember correctly, and I may not be, the device she holds up was the same one her and Tyler where trying to use to capture the data transfer in an earlier episode. I thnk she was just using that as a prop to keep Lelands focus on her.

Your theories? I don't know. What I know is that listening to it is painful, people try to figure out the mess we are in made by poor writing, I am very sceptical for season 3, maybe it should have finished on season 2 with Discovery never to be seen again or talked about again.

    Interesting theory but I doubt they will refer back to the Temperal Time war but I could well be wrong. I agree the Calipso Short Trek has to have something to do with things to come in Discovery. Even the Harry Mudd episode was an introduction to the ‘Klingon Time Crystals’ so there must have been some reason for this Short Trek. As for The Discovery being in the Nebula for a thousand years maybe that is how Discovery will end with her being ‘parked’ in the Nebula. Of coarse this is not allowing for the fact we are giving the writers far to much credit, let’s face it, much of the writing on Discovery had the level of about a 5 year old. Still I’m interested to see what happens I’ll be watching it and hoping for the best, let’s face it it can’t get much worse than season 1 and season 2 was an improvement so maybe we will be shocked and season 3 could be really good.

    I reject your theories and substitute one of my own.
    We know Georgiou is on the Discovery in the future, with the rest of the crew. She is also the senior starfleet officer. Georgiou takes command of the Discovery. They learn that the Federation is gone in the future, and the Alpha quadrant is in a perpetual state of conflict, because the Federation lost the temporal cold war. As a member of Section 31, Georgiou collects as much data as possible, salvages 29th century time travel equipment, with the intent on taking the Discovery back to the past to correct the various missteps.
    She succeeds, and gets pack to the past just in time for her own series, but has to abandon the crew, in escape pods, maybe, and parks the Discovery in a nebula so it'll be there waiting for the crew for season 4 (or the second half of season 3).

    source: ua-cam.com/video/_2Gcg9RMkoU/v-deo.html
    Anyways I think the most likely way we can see confirmation that Calypso fits into the prime timeline is if we see Zora being installed by 33rd century Starfleet to watch over the temporal displaced crew.
    Not saying your theory of her being created by a merger of Airiam memories and the sphere data isn't possible, but if we don't see the 33rd century technology playing a role in her creation it would leaves the door open that Calypso happens in alternate 33rd century

    Throwing this idea into the pot: Georgiou winds up pulling rank to be the new Captain of the Discovery. Stamets is injured & out of the loop for most of the season. Georgiou faces a slow brewing mutiny, winds up depositing the Discovery crew on a planet somewhere, forces the newly revived Stamets to **time spore jump** back to their original timestream, thus getting her back in time to run Section 31 on the new show, then fulfills a promise to Burnham by parking the Discovery in the Nebula for a 1000 years, with Stamets in a stasis box. 1000yrs pass, the timer on the stasis box goes off, Stamets wakes up, and jumps back to the crew's planet-bound location, reuniting ship and crew in the future. That would tie in some loose ends, eh what?

    Since the Emperor comes back to the 23rd Century to join the Section 31 show it makes more sense that at some point Discovery was sent back with her and possibly a few others. All except one shuttle is gone because the main crew stayed behind in the future, and it was placed in the nebula to safeguard it until it catches up with the crew. Just to clarify: my theory is that the Discovery sat in that nebula for 1000 years AFTER the time jump featured at the end of Disco S2. Which puts it in the 4000's. Everyone originally thought Calypso was 1000 years ahead of 2250's like you suggested, but that not necessarily the case.

      Ah ok you mean at the time of Calypso that would be in the 4000s? if so I agree

    Or they just jumped back to their time let the crew off head out of there with all the shuttle that are more capable and leave it there for a thousand years remember the ship can travel back and forth through time if you can figure the drive correctly

    It’s important to note that the Federation and even Starfleet are not always the good guys. Kirk often found himself acting against the Federation in both timelines and Sisko was essentially a state sponsored terrorist. I feel it important to point out that Picard after Generations is much more like Kirk. More willing to stand purely on principle, more adventurous, and more willing to rebel against the Federation. It’s telling that Picard is not only going through an internal crisis like Kirk did in his days of retirement and as an admiral, but Picard for whatever reason is off “saving the Galaxy” as a privateer and not a Starfleet officer.
    A far flung future in which the Federation has become outwardly as villainous as it was internally in the TNG, DS9 Days is not too much of a stretch.

      I like the idea of the Federation becoming on overbearing/overprotective entity to the point of trampling on freedoms or even downright being evil. I think it would add some depth to the universe...but I'm not sure how folks would respond to such a change.

      Ketwolski People will piss and moan no matter what. It’s not like we don’t have precedent for this anyway. Had men like Kirk not been around who knows the kinda stuff the Federation would have gotten away with. We’ve seen the Federation overstep it’s mandate and even fail to uphold its principles often. I mean just look at events like abandoning citizens and removing their rightful legal status when faced with Cardassian aggression, installing a puppet government to rule over the Klingons in Discovery, a vast number of legal and ethical violations by Section 31 in Into Darkness. I think people would be kidding themselves as to what the Federation would or would not do had the more libertarian minded captains not been around to fight back.

      @@Ketwolski You already know how ST: Discovery's detractors are going to react. Without showing how the Federation/UFP drowned its morals and ideals in the swamp (Either in the Pichard or other Trek series), it would be seen as a (total) betrayal/abandonment of Gene Roddenberry's ideas on the future of humanity.
      " idea of the Federation becoming on overbearing/overprotective entity to the point of trampling on freedoms or even downright being evil"
      If the Klingons were supposed to be the embodiment of the (stereotypical) Trump supporter, in season one. Is the overbearing, tyrannical, trampling on (individual) freedoms. Just plain evil Federation a representation on their ideas on Democracy and Big Government, in season three?

      @@Shapes_Quality_Control Personally I would be greatly disappointed if the 3rd season of Discovery shows the Federation into overbearing imperialistic super power trying to expand their territory with might alone as I see the Federation principles of peaceful cooperation in the search of the unknown and to better ourselves as the keystone what the franchise is
      I'm not saying that I against to portray aspects of the Federation in less than favorable light when a crisis would cause someone to question these ideals (personally loved STVI and DS9 because it did just that), but that is different than turning the entire Federation into the enemy.
      That being said and if that is were Discovery as a show is heading, I won't continually harped my disappointment over and over again in attempt troll the people who do like it

      amazedsatsuma It’s somewhat difficult to see the Federation get to that point I know especially when considering that the Federation was Trek’s metaphor for America and American idealism. As of yet America has not come close to the point of being a tyrannical overbearing state so it’s hard to see the Federation come to that point. Given several hundred years though who knows.

    The best thing they could do... discovery shows up. The federation freaks out and destroys the discovery and everyone on the ship and they mercifully end this garbage series. Discovery is not, nor ever has been Star Trek. Please Pile series. Or let the youtube fan series “Star Trek continues” write and develop more episodes of STC or let them create real starvtrek. The fan series “Star Trek Continues” episodes were award winning compared to the trash that Discovery is/was.
