I’m not entirely sure if he would’ve been on the enterprise E because remember he was in first contact and that would’ve been very risky to have a time agent on a ship that was assimilated by the Borg where they were running free that would’ve been a real risk to have the board Assimilate a temporal agent. I don’t think he would be there
Captain: "Daniels, can you go back in time and stop the Burn?" Daniels: "No." Captain: "Why not?" Daniels: "Because the writers didn't know what my character was until the last episode." Captain: "You know, you can still send us back now. We know the cause of it and can stop it from happening." Daniels: "Nah. Temporal Prime Directive." Captain: "Captain Kirk went back in time to save the whales. Surely, we can go back to save billions of lives and save civilizations from collapsing on themselves. I'm sure everyone would agree since it affected everyone equally." Daniels: "....We threw out the technology......ummm.....for budgetary reasons." Captain: "I'm sure that one of the races would still have the technology. Surely, we can....." Daniels: "Just leave. This is the last episode, and no one cares."
They just needed to come up with some sort of in-universe scapegoat everyone in the plot needed to get rid of. e.g. The burn somehow ended up getting rid of all the annoying time travelers so it's a good thing!
Considering how pivotal the Enterprise keeps being for the entire universe, it'd make sense that it'd have some many time agents implanted in it to ensure it's events aren't altered.
STD could have just been a small easily ignorable footnote in trek, but they just HAD to go about time traveling all across the universe, implementing themselves in every single major event that ever happened in the universe.
I still don't understand what was the point of _DISCO_ . At first it read like it was going to be a prequel, setting up _TOS_ . But then it went all _Terminator_ with AI. And introduced _Enterprise_ under Pike's command (still easily its best character, obviously, but the bar's pretty low). Then they went to the future, and I thought "perfect! Now they can do their own thing, and don't have to worry about canon, and the rest of the timeline can also do its thing." But after all the references _Picard_ ended up doing, _DISCO_ just kept on throwing out one reference after the other like they just couldn't stop. It was like they really thought all the references in season 3 of _Picard_ actually saved it, even though the series was ending anyway, and it was _still_ horribly written and executed. And then, just to make it even more horrible, the decide to tie it into the 'Calypso' _Short Trek_ as their finale -- which was still centered on just Michael Burnham, just like the rest of the series. They should have called it _Michael Burnham: A Star Trek 'Discovery' Story_ . More people wouldn't have watched, but at least it'd have been more truthful. It was all about her, from the very beginning right to the end, after all. Shame, there was a lot of potential that got wasted. Nothing more burdensome than a character and story with potential, is there?
Cast as nothing more than Generic Grimdark Future Scifi Show (or, let's be honest given Jar Jar Abrams' involvement, "Star Wars Effects Demo Reel Show"), Discovery isn't the worst thing ever. Not good, but... yeah there's been worse. What makes it terrible is the fact that people who aren't nearly smart enough, or in possession of enough self control, are trying to put it into the context of fifty (now sixty) years of Star Trek canon.
It's a story about how crewman daniels, burnham, jet reno, and the hot tub time machine guy managed to gain absolute power over the federation. At least that's what I'd love to believe.
Would that be Romulans mucking with the dating of our Eugenics Wars, or someone from the Terran Confederation timeline trying to preserve their own existence?
I won’t be surprised if someone in Strange New Worlds appears as another incarnation of Agent Daniels. Or a retcon of a random TOS background character. Man I love Daniels.
The sad irony is that the people who would respond to memberberries like that are long gone. The only ones left are people who think shoot-em-up crap like Star Trek Fleet Command is high art.
@@jonathanz.9675 Nah, it wasn't great but that show was brigaded hard. I saw more racial slurs in the trek fanbase in the last 4 years than I had in the entire 20+ years previously. Damn good thing the net was still in it's infancy when Deep Space 9 came out or we'd have never gotten past season 2 of it.
Archer asked Daniels if he was human. Daniels responded, "Yes. In a manner of speaking." So Daniels might be descendented from a lot of other alien species. Maybe one of them is Vulcan since they can live up to 200 years. However, since he looks human, maybe a lot of his human ancestors' genes keep him looking human. Or the 32nd century Federation's medical technology and practices have improved so much that he can live for centuries, if he chose to do that.
If McCoy could be 140 by the time of TNG and still be able to think, walk and talk, there's no reason why medicine a millennium later won't be able to extend the life of humans far beyond that of, say, Vulcans. Life extensions therapies were already known by the time of both TOS and TNG, but were crude or impractical, I guess they were able to refine them later on.
Discovery being an anomaly from the Temporal Cold War that Daniels corrects would have been a cool storyline, if the rest of the series was.. watchable. Also, why is Daniels' tech so much better on ST: Enterprise than in Discovery?
2:30 I'm not sure I ever realized how stupid this is. All anyone would have to do is alter the past while covering their tracks (the opposite of this would be standing out like a sore thumb like when Sisko took over the role of Gabriel Bell). The new events they created would become a normal part of history and no one would ever be the wiser.
I love that DS9 did a callback much later in the show, where Nog has this PADD about Earth history, sees Graham Bell and immediately notices that he looks a lot like Sisko.
I admit I had no idea what I was watching until it all came together at the end with Picard ordering the destruction of the Discovery. Although it started to crystallize for me that it was parody when Shatner said “kick the fucker’s ass”.
Where's the second clip from? I recognise the Daniels talking with Archer in clip 3 but not the one talking to Riker or Picard. Are they the same man or different? Is Daniels also a code name?
I feel like the writer that skimmed the material, legit thought crewman Daniels and the LT, were the same. How could Silik hear anything! She was whispering all the time, and had his enhanced abilities removed. Good job Burnham!
What about Ransom and the U.S.S Relativity and all their temporal missions for Starfleet? Also, Malcolm McDowell played H.G. Wells in _Time After Time_ which was a movie easily comparable to both _Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home_ and _Back to the Future III_ but that would probably just be for funsies at this point.
Amazing cstch grinn. I guess it is possible and nothing exists to. Counter it. My guess is you thought about how he said USS enterprise with no letter; I did as well
I wonder what they were actually going to have the suit man be. With the show being canceled suddenly they had to reveal the mystery and Daniels is the only option that made any sense at all and had a connection to anything. But this only further raises the ridiculousness about the loss of time travel technology because it shows that there are still people alive that know how to make it.
