Both HR and MD are amazing games. Despite all Square-Enix attempts (and also some Eidos Montreal's mishaps and mistakes during development) they are classic titles worthy of DEUS EX name. I love them despite all their flaws and unfulfilled promises.
I love the sequels, and while they didn’t fully capture the magic of the original, they came very close. I feel like a third sequel could have achieved that, it could’ve been the culmination of everything they’ve been working on
Great review bro! It really does feel like you found your style. I still want to catch up with the rest of your videos I've missed due to my annoying work schedule. Hope all's well and keep up the good work :D
Hey man, thanks for dropping by and for the kind words! Most of my videos nowadays are effectively short movies so no biggie if you haven’t been able to watch them as they came out!
I had a bunch of fun with this when it came out but eventually stopped at the time due to life but u remember it fondly. Just one of those things I guess. Will continue the vid tomorrow x
HAH, appreciate it, dude. Don’t get your hopes up, tho, I finished recording the footage in July and started working on the video a week and and a half ago. 🤣 between recording HR and working on the video I crunched out the Beyond Review. Don’t recommend this, tho, I barely slept lmao
Thank you for the kind words! I had something written down about the script in the first draft, but it didn’t make the cut. This series soundtrack is so iconic that I felt I didn’t have anything interesting to say about it tbh
DE:HR stood out to me as impressive for three main reasons : 1: How well the level design allowed for not just different play styles but different levels of exploration and engagement. B: That it stayed engaging but fairly neutral on the issue of whether new toolsets that are too expensive/rare for the common man to access are good or bad. I'm in favor, my friend isn't, we both enjoyed the game. III : (Spoiler) Your boss never pulls the sudden-but-inevitable-betrayal card. In a Deus Ex game. Which is itself a twist. (Bonus reason : it lets you win the impossible fight after the chopper crashes if you really bring it. It's not quite "put a LAM in the hallway before the cutscene to kill a boss character hours early" but it's a lot more than most games I grew up with would let you get away with) Thanks for the excellent review! I'm glad I found your channel.
Classy video ya classy bastard! Seriously, great stuff, including some implications in the game I hadn't considered before. You've done a great job making this half hour fly by -- I'd listen to a video four times as long as this from you. Informative and amusing -- you've got it nailed.
Hey, thanks for watching and the kind words! I was actually concerned that people would find that bit a stretch, but thankfully, people seemed to enjoy it. I am slowly working my way towards a 1 hour long video, but I’m not there yet. Plus, I’m still looking for the *right* game, so to speak, even though I could’ve easily talked way longer about HR. The first draft of the script had about 40 minutes worth of words, but I trimmed it down to 30. If there’s one thing journalism school has thought me, that would be the value of cutting haha. Thanks again for your kind comment and I’ll hopefully see you around!
This is my favorite deus ex. The atmosphere, soundtrack and ambience is so hypnotic. I swear as a kid I would fantasize about the future and I pictured a world with black and gold like presentation, this game brought back that dream. Idk the feel of this game is just awesome. Better than MD imo.
Mane, I was just browsing some new Human Revolution content and it's so awesome that there are people doing reviews of the game even in 2021 But also your channel is gold and I am angery that it took this long to find it
As a dedicated Deus Ex fan I was pretty sceptical when Human Revolution was announced, especially after Invisible War. Ended up being blown away by how well it follows in the original's footsteps.
The graphics may have aged a bit but the levels architecture (Hengsha and Panchea in particular) and the clothes style are still amazing. That, plus the story is a good tribute to the original Deus Ex 1. And let's not forget the OST (McCann did an amazing job). Excepted for players who insist on having games with a 2021 graphical quality, DXHR is still an amazing game even today.
I’m still in awe of how skillfully they managed to capture the spirit of the original. Especially since it was a young studio and it was their first game
Great video man. This was my first Deus Ex and the one O have played the most. I played Dishonored before this game and when I originally played it I wasn't a fan but I now have it on pc and I love it.
Thanks dude! I was thinking about covering the System Shock games, but they’re a bit too scary/depressing for me. As much as I love Prey 2017, I can’t deny it drained me mentally (i will replay it at some point tho)
Dude same, I’m a sucker for that kind of stuff. Prey 2017 was nirvana for me, so many tidbits of environmental storytelling spread out throughout that space station
A guy with a racoon avatar has a "trashcan themed tangent", what a shocker! Good job as always! Sadly when the game came out it didn't click for me, as I was more interested in things like Bastion and Diablo. The cover system ... I hate it.
To answer your questions in a convenient format lol: 1. It’s the Director’s cut. I had a whole 1000 word rant written down about how badly optimized the DC is compared to vanilla, but I realized it didn’t add anything of value to the video and cut it out 2. I have played the DLC, but it happens so late in the campaign and since I have a self-imposed spoiler free policy, I decided to not include it 3. I will review MD in the future, it’s just a matter of getting the creative impulse to make a video. I was feeling a pinch of the old “deus ex fatigue” after HR, so I delayed it for the time being Thanks for your support and comments!
Deus Ex 1 is on my Top 5, Invisible War was ok, but no matter how often i try go get into HR, i just uninstall it shortly after. Feels realy off and very "console like", the Gameplay is meh, i cant even do melee attacks from behind when i dont have enough Energy? I dont know dosent click for me. Is Mankind Divided at least better when it comes to the Gameplay? Maybe i give it a try then.
MD is definitely better than HR in almost every single way, but I haven't played enough of it to make an objective assement. From what I've played, I'd say it fixed the issues you mentioned in your comment
