ah yes, the "non-lethal" ending, the tension and realization that the Boyle sisters ain't so close as family, the mansion overlooking dilapidated/plague ridden areas of Dunwall...of course, classic Looking Glass masterclass level design and thematics. this is the precursor to Dishonored 2's Clockwork Mansion/Stilton's Manor and I can't wait for you to cover those as well once you have time
I didn't kill her only once, when I tried to get Clean Hands award. It feels more merciful to kill her than to let her be taken by her stalker. It's my favourite mission in the whole game and one of my hobbys is to find new ways to dispose Lady Boyle without alarming anyone ;)
It's like the most merciful thing you can do to any character you need to assassinate in the game (Campbell is sent to flooded district where he'll slowly and painfully die weeping; Pendletons lose their tongues and go to their own mines where they'll die of extreme conditions and overworking; Burrows is sent to coldridge where he'll be interrogated (and probably tortured), and will spend his last days in absolute horror, because death is what he fears the most)
@@Илья-р5к6зI was recently talking with friends of mine about euthanasia, and it was rather unclear if it is the moral option. Mainly because it robs the person of their transformation. For an example, if you kill Boyle here, her character couldn't change for the better. I don't want to say that leaving her with someone who is obsessing over her is most moral decision, just that it's unclear if assassination really is in the best interest of that person.
I checked your channel out after this video to be pleasantly surprised by the high quality videos from a relatively small channel. Keep killing it, man!
There was an easter egg in this mission, if you keep roaming aimlessly in this mission, stalking or acting suspiciously ( high chaos) then a guard will approach you and will ask you to follow him, and then the guards will try to kill you for no reason.
i really want you to make more videos like this, but i find this one somewhat incomplete. I would enjoy it more if you included sections talking about second floor, as it gives a lot more emersion seeing living rooms and exploring them and for me was a great experience being able just to explore it even if it doesnt progress the mission further, safe room in the vine cellar, different ways to get into the mansion, and as far sa i remember all sisters have different personalities and dialogues when it comes to talking them into going downstairs. But it is already a nice video, exited to see new videos, brother!!!
Thank you for your feedback and kind words! I tried to apply the feedback from the Liberty Island Analysis and make it more introspective and analytical as opposed to a step by step walkthrough. I’m still trying to strike that balance
@@thesummerofmark yeah brother, i feel like it should be more about your feelings, and if you said everything you felt and saw you ve done a great job, but somehow it feels like if you included more great stuff from this level it would be even more fun to watch))
Another great level analysis. I really enjoyed this one mainly because I'd completely forgotten about the non-lethal conclusion. That's dark as fuck...
Actually, you can rush Jindosh in less than 2 or 3 minutes, the wall of light's fatal flaw is time stop (fully upgraded) 😂 To me the Stilton manor is clearly THE level for D2.
I would also like to note that, don’t quote me, someone had told me there’s a dishonored book stating that Boyle does make it out alive from the stalker
When you were pointing out how there's a relation between the actions committed and the non-lethal options I thought about the correlation between Lady Boyle's "punishment" and her actions. At first it didn't click and then I realized that she was (consensually) having sex with Burrows and living lavishly, displayed, for the whole world to see her. Now she will be hid from the world with none of the money she's accustomed to and I don't want to detail the next part cuz I'm pretty sure you get where I was going when I brought up things being consensual with Burrows. As uncomfortable as that is dishonored will always be peak entertainment. It's one of my favorite video game worlds. I got your video a sequel's sequel lined up in my queue to play next, I'm looking forward to it.
After pendleton says she’s a viper i thought to myself “Should Corvo go rescue the simp” Even devs regret this decision and simp guy just “disappeared” after a few years let Waverly inherit a fortune Why did she got off so easy?
I actually killed her in my first playthrough right in one of the rooms when no one was looking, but since I had the shadow kill upgrade she disintegrated. I ended up getting the Well Mannered achievement because no one saw her lol.
I never knew the name-signing is mentioned later on. In what context? By who? I always signed my name. it's so cool. A boyle sister vanishes without a trace and, in the process of investigating, the grand guard checks the ledger and sees "Corvo Attano" signed in beautiful cursive. I imagine this being reported to Burrows, him struggling to sleep that night, horrified by the thought that corvo might make HIM disappear, too
I think guestbook actually matters in mission. I remember once I did sign Corvo to guestbook straight after I come inside. I was looking for Lady Boyle, gathering informations and suddently guards were alerted. They didnt know I'm Corvo yet but clearly they were looking for him. I didnt kill anyone, nobody noticed me so only logical explanation is someone has seen Corvo's name in guestbook
Great video essay! I revisit this game annually to try out new "builds" of powers, and one of my favorites was doing Rat Swarm on everybody at the party. Fuck the rich.
It were a masterpiece if it wasn't for the deus ex machina NPC (Lord Brisby) spawning out of nowhere after a couple minutes, spoiling the target and thus a lof of the fun of it. I mean, they even put all the work in to randomize the target each time you start a new game... bummer. How that came to be? Google for Lady Boyle Party + playtesters. Shocking, just shocking. Still love Dishonored, mind. If they had actually pulled this through with some actual sleuthing and thinking involved, it would be right up there with Clockwork Mansion and A Crack In The Slab from Dishonored 2 -- masterpieces truly.
Great video, while Boyle's non lethal option is certainly cruel and disgusting it's likely a taste of her own medicine based off what the heart says about their conduct with the servants..
This game IS a masterpiece! I have played and replayed it so many times. I love the various levels, interactions, backgrounds, everything, etc! I have played Dishonored more than I played GTA 5! That's saying something! And, since you mentioned Deus EX - another Harvey Smith game - I have spent hundreds of hours in this particular universe as well. One of the greatest games of all time.
Yeah, for such a strong start to the vid talking about how much you adore this level, you spend an awful lot of time convincing me it's not great after all? It's weird, also, you're not wrong about how creepy and offputting the "non-lethal" solution is. It goes over-the-line. There's not much else in the series that even tiptoes.
I felt it would be disingenuous of me to talk about this mission without addressing the non-lethal solution. I still adore this level, but that doesn’t mean it’s not without its flaws
@@thesummerofmark I don't disagree, but I'd be inclined not to spend so much time on it compared to the strengths. Anyway, the video production quality is solid and I appreciate the effort

Insane replayability for such a short mission (compared to others ofc)
@@thesummerofmark True. At first I didn't think I'd like it so much, but I sometimes only play DH to re-play this mission.

My favorite level on Dishonored 1 ( and the first level on Knife of Dunwall's DLC)
The first level from The Knife of Dunwall is in its own league. Almost feels like a prototype for the gigantic Dishonored 2 levels
