  • Do hypothyroid support supplements work? Absolutely, but only if you use the right ones.
In my opinion, and based on my experience, here are the ones hypothyroid patients should be using:
    1. Guggulsterone
Guggulsterone has been shown in animal studies to promote thyroid hormone creation and iodine uptake thereby supporting the thyroid gland. It also happens to help with symptoms associated with low thyroid like high cholesterol.
    2. T2 (3,5 diiodo-l-thyronine)
As the only thyroid hormone available over the counter, T2 is a must have for low thyroid patients. It performs its own functions while also supporting the action of T3.
    3. Rhodiola
Rhodiola is an adaptogenic herb that promotes energy and better cognition and is one of my favorite adaptogens for thyroid patients.
    4. Calcium D glucarate
Calcium D glucarate promotes better liver health which, in turn, supports T4 to T3 conversion and the elimination of endocrine disrupting chemicals.
    5. L-tyrosine
L-tyrosine is needed to create thyroxine (T4 thyroid hormone) and several adrenal hormones. Because of its stimulating action, low doses are preferred.
    6. Inositol
This sugar-like compound promotes the action of TSH in the cells and, when combined with selenium, has a powerful impact on thyroid hormone lab tests as well as thyroid antibody levels.

9 out of 10 people with hypothyroidism are women and a massive proportion of these women develop hypothyroidism around peri menopause. I recently found out that estrogen and the thyroid are closely linked, with low estrogen causing inflammation and poor thyroid hormone production. If this is true, surely supporting estrogen production would be a good idea? Low estrogen also affects seratonin and dopamine production and it’s also the case that most women diagnosed with adhd tend to be around peri menopausal age. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression since my youngest was born (developing post natal depression shortly afterwards) - I think I’ve been struggling with low estrogen for years and then upon peri menopause, it finally then affected my thyroid.

      Great reply.
And also being put on HRT can shock the Thyroid and cause Hypothyroidism until the body corrects itself which takes months/ years. Why aren’t women better informed about this? - I don’t think most doctors know.

@@user-gu4pg2zy7d Ah, well that answers a question I had. If it’s known that low estrogen causes low thyroid, why when you are given hrt do most women need to ‘increase’ their meds - I would have assumed you would need to decrease them but like you say, it likely shocks the thyroid at first….I’ll be sure to keep an eye on mine then.

I was told to take Calcium D Gluc. After my Doc had me do a stool test.. I took it for about a month but it felt my estrogen tanked so I’m scared to take it again. I’m in my 30’s, I shouldn’t have low estrogen at this point. I had no idea it help with conversion though. I might try it again.

My cortisol level is so out of control that I am breaking out with boils, eczema, and my blood pressure is dangerously high. I have a weakened immune system and I am having problems with skin infections, like boils, eczema, and a complete full body breakout of large knots under my skin that itch like crazy. It is causing insane insomnia, awake for days at a time. It is making me depressed, anxious, suicidal, and feeling like life is not worth fighting for. Eczema has no cure. It angers me to the point of hating myself for being stuck with Hypothyroidism, pre-diabetes, epilepsy, anemia, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, all wrapped in one. I cannot get control over any of this. I don't know where to even begin treating all of these diseases.
