When you do you are listening to history. Little did I know (I'm 63) that I would be seeing the music my childhood and teen years immortalized on UA-cam. Not only that, hearing from you, Kevin making that very astute observation about "auto tuned bullshit." You're absolutely right and this old timer thanks you and appreciates you.

Dance, be free, Don't hate and fight, live life to it's fullest...

Wasn't American Graffiti filmed in downtown San Rafael or partly in Petaluma? I recall Wolfman Jack's show at night on XTRA, a Mexican station with huge wattage you could pick up all over SoCal. The best oldie station in 1962 was on a nighttime program broadcast out of Riverside or San Bernardino.

Always loved the guitarist in this..superior playing. Different style than what has morphed into heavy metal fast finger. But this guy is such a stylist, jazzy, fast, clean attack, very musical and slick..how can any guitarist NOT appreciate and like this? Also, very few people know this: During October and November 1963, Joey Dee and the Starliters toured Europe, performing one extraordinary night in Stockholm with The Beatles (already the biggest band in Northern Europe) as their opening act. Before the USA ever really heard of the Beatles. Can you imagine Joey and the band saying to the Beatles, "Nice job guys, thanks for opening for us..." hahahha, little did they know...

Today's dances are heart attack triggers for Eisenhower! I suppose he would cuss out loud seeing FLOTUS Michelle jam to "Get Your freak On" during Carpool Karaoke. I guess that's why so many feel she wasn't 'classy.' Just like these dances were easily harmless for the 60s, FLOTUS' dancing and the PPMint twist pale in comparison to Kim K's nudes and certainly twerking!

People dont know how huge this song was back in the early 60's. It put the ''Peppermint Lounge’’ on 45th Street in NYC on the map and started an enormous dance craze for that time. Everyone wanted to go there and do this "dance"..... Huge for that time and the Twist era! A true classic from 1962 America! ("The Peppermint Twist" on the "ROULETTE" record label) These were the John F. Kennedy years. I met Joey Dee years ago and he was kind and patient and answered all my questions about "Rock an' Roll" and the music of that time. He was and is a true professional not to mention he helped to launch the careers of The Ronettes, Jimmy Hendrix, The Rascals to name a few. Thank you for the music & the wonderful " Peppermint Twist " memories Joey Dee & The Starliters.....

Eisenhower remains one of the most moral men to have been in the white house in the last 75 years. He certainly got things done. A West Point graduate, who lost his father in early 1942. Although he served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, he came from simple roots and was a lover of peace. He was a very brave man and the more I learn about him the more I admire him. He had great vision. So if he said something, I think he knew what he was talking about. I enjoyed the music of the 60's and the 70's, but you know what though, we did go to hell in a hand basket didn't we?

The Twist changed the way people danced to upbeat Rock music, you could express your individuality after the Twist when the other dances came in,anyone could do it,no one had to take lessons like with swing and latin dancing.Dick Clark said the Twist was the most important Rock musice because it showed the adults at the time that Rock was not something to be feared anymore.,like when it first came out in the mid 50's.

+James Flanagan --- The original Joey Dee and the Starliters first played this song at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC when you could leave your car parked on the street unlocked, in NYC 41st Street just off Broadway. The joint was about 18 feet wide and about 40 feet long, then opened up in the back to about 40 feet wide by about 30 feet long. That's where the stage was and dance floor.
      That was about 1960/1962.

This is a rather difficult post to make for I was only 10 years old in '62 and I have always honored and revered Ike. But it struck me as rather ironic and troubling that he would cite our "sense of duty and decency and morality" when General Ike himself sent all those young Americans off upon the invasion of Normandy, all the while knowing that 1/2 of them would be savagely slaughtered or disfigured on their mission of glory.

This is not just a twist song but one of the hottest singles of its day. Love the guitar solo and would like to hear the mostly instrumental part 2 which was lopped off for the single. Similarly with their other hit, Shout. The backing band included members of the Young Rascals. I wonder who's playing the guitar.

Dave Brigati was one of the Starliters. The one in the left. LOL. His brother, Eddie Brigati was one of the Rascals. ( he sang, How Can I Be Sure). Dave sang back up on several of their albums. Dave and I dated in HS. I’ve known the brothers since we were kids. Joey Dee even had a record shop in our hometown of Garfield NJ. Our town is very proud of them and named a street in their honor.

Joey Dee's band The Starliters included Eddie Brigati, Dino Danelli and Gene Cornish who along with Felix Cavaliere
later formed The Rascals ( Young Rascals) in "Peppermint Twist" you can clearly hear Brigati's falsetto in the back ground.
