Personally, I prefer a node system base like Fusion and Nuke to a layer-based software like After Effects or Photoshop. It brings more flexibility, more tools and it allows you to be more productive. Good resources (paid) is FXPHD, which gives you access to a lot of training. Also keep in mind that you can transfer knowledge from Nuke to Fusion and vice versa.
