Said this during the premier but its great to see videos that talk about "How to..." rather than "What to..." in the sense of not just showing you what buttons to press, I really feel this video shows you how to do this yourself and nothing something you will forget an hour later
It ought to be a bonus section of Houdini For the New Artist II. So, just scroll to the bottom of the course videos, and it should be its own chapter. I got a little bit behind schedule, and I'm recording the last couple of videos for it right now, but it should be all done soon. Also, when I get done recording, I'll upload it to the "Quick Tips" section as well.
very cool ! and it's a nice thing to repeat about having references and real values for vel and scale. One question though for this kind of effect about the emisson geometry, of far from camera is it supposed to go ? If your character is outdoor then your emitter will have to surround him but how deep does it has to go behind him, like, do we create rains after 10 meters away, 100, 1000 ?
Hey @CONCEPT0123 that's a good question - In this scene I'm using a lot of depth-of-field camera blur, so it's easy to blend it in as it goes back. Depending on your scene, you might be able to get away with that sort of thing. But, if you don't have much of that going on, I'd say that this effect is better off when you're closer to the subject. If you look at some references, rain just turns into clouds as you reach the mid / background areas. And at that point, you're better off rendering volumes. But, most of the time, in reference, the motion blur streaks are only visible when you're closer to the subject, and that means you want to keep this whole thing close to the subject as well.
Right now, with the 25% off Nov sale, for about $150 you gain access to all the videos I've made over the past 6 years, resources, one-on-one support, and exercises. Those prices are also the minimum I need to hire others in the community, continue creating free content like this, and expand my operations to offer everyone more help when learning Houdini. But I realize that supporting this sort of thing isn't for everyone. Every time I work all week to produce a video like this, I always get a handful of people that find the need to try and convince everyone else that they shouldn't support what I do. It's always frustrating to read those comments because I put my heart into creating high quality work rather than focusing on how to manipulate and hustle others for their money. Anyway, like I said, I disagree, but good luck with your efforts elsewhere.
@ I absolutely support these sort of learning portals. The comment was not meant to dissuade others from buying and supporting your work. But I feel I should be allowed to voice my opinion on the price (normal prices, not offers) and the normal price is a lot of money. Though I applaud the fact that you haven’t gone the rebelway route and just doubled everything for the heck of it.
Watched this whole thing as a Blender artist with no knowledge of Houdini. I got entertained! And learned a bunch of stuff. Amazing.

What a beautifull result
Very amazing! Where did I find the breakdown?
I tried to find it on the website but I couldn't find it.

this was a super informative and in depth tutorial. Everything made sense.
Is there any chance that we will get a snow tutorial?
Thanks for watching! Yep, I already made a snow tutorial a couple years back: ua-cam.com/video/L3yvS-oh2Ik/v-deo.html
brilliant as always
Love you CG Forge

Thank you! 👍great share 💯
Gold !
Super tutorial
Great tutorial. If the vids on CGForge weren't so expensive I would for sure buy it, but as it is you're too expensive.
