Great video. My CZ 457 MTR 20" just loves SK Rifle Match, sub MOA out to 100 meters. That is with the rifle in a clamp, to rule out the human factor. I tested Lapua, SK, RWS, Eley and believe it or not a budget ammo from Selier & Bellot. The S&B was almost as good as the match ammo, but out of ten rounds fired there was always at least one wild flyer. But at a third the price of the other ammo, I use it for training.

Yes, My CZ 457 MTR 20" also loves SK Rifle Match, sub 1/2" at 50 yards. I have to take it out to 100 meters but I just got the rifle a week ago. But the 4 Gun Guy is correct buying ammo unless you lot test and buy lot ammo that you have tested in your rifle can be a crap shoot.

Thank you for the really informative video. For more than 12 years I competed with 10 to12 other shooters twice a month shooting ARA matches in my underground range. As you, we found that the Eley Match was consistently more accurate at 50 yards than the Eley 10X. Sometimes a lot of 10X was more accurate. We tried to buy the most accurate ammunition at the time. It didn’t always work out that way. Some cases of the Eley Match were just not as accurate as others.
Here is something else we don’t think about until it happens.
I had 5 very accurate bricks of Eley Match 1054 ft./sec. from the same case. Most of my scores were from 2250 to 2350 out of 2500. Many of the shot were dead center in the target. The shots that scored 50 points just snuck into the 50 point ring.
Out of the 5 brick of the 1054 I had 5 bad boxes that put my scores in the 1900 to 1950 range. After I realized the ammunition was not shooting accurately I would set the box aside to season the barrel at the next match. Just because you have a good lot of ammunition doesn’t mean every box will shoot the same. (It should) Sometimes you just get a bad box of ammunition with a lot of flyers.
    Thanks,
    JD

Hi Jim! Thanks for the great comment and input! I totally agree with you that even in a brick the boxes can be inconsistent. Thanks for watching my friend!

I agree with the 4 gun guy. I believe that his premise is correct. Buying ammo unless you lot test and buy your lot tested ammo that you have fired in your rifle can be a crap shoot.

Hi wowbagger3505! Yep, I've talked to some folks about the differences in the rim thickness between ELEY and other brands, which can make one or the other not work well in certain rifles. ELEY didn't want to eject when I had my Vudoo, but worked fine in my current rifle during this test. Thanks for watching my friend!

Informative content as always! Would you say that a tuner would dial in any of those lots? Do you think different barrels like different brands of ammo, over others? Keep up the great work! See you at BIT.

Hi GMG! Yes to all your questions, but I wanted to test without outside interference, so kept it simple. Different brands will certainly make a difference as I've moved away from Center-x and am shooting SK Match for competition now. I've just ordered four bricks of the Norma Match based on these results and will validate that at distance...May be switching to that. I'm RO'ing BIT so see you there and thanks for watching another one my friend!

If you have a barrel contour 1in or bigger on the muzzle. A tuner will do nothing other than change poi. My shop can easily sells these and make more money, I have thoroughly tested this and ask anyone with heavy contour barrels to prove otherwise.

@@EagleEyeShooting TOTALLY AGREE! With that large of a barrel, it's either good or not good, due to the chamber/rifling job that's been done.

Unless you have the money to buy enough different types of lots and brands and types of ammo to do a relevant test and THEN buy enough of the “winning” ammo to practice and shoot with for a significant time. My personal thought is to spend the money on a really good barrel, chambered by a good gunsmith, then buy the ammo that seems to shoot the best in your rifle.

Hi Lewis! Yep, I've said it in almost all my .22LR videos, you need to find what works for you and stick with it. My Vudoo "liked" ELEY, but as with your experience, my CZ hated it. My original .22LR comp rifle, the Tikka T1x LOVED ELEY. It just depends, but this video was more about lot consistency and glad you found it interesting. Thanks for watching my friend!

What was the velocity on the box of your eley match lots? Did it have a delta of about 15fps? One of my rifles tends to like a box velocity of 1062 pretty consistently, with an avg out of the muzzle at 1105. Nice to see your rifle liked that Norma Match as well. My MTR does too.

    • @The4GunGuy

Hi Josh! MV on the Eley Match is 1,085 fps, and you bring up a great point that I should have covered in the video...The concept of velocity nodes. We use them all the time in centerfire, but tend to forget about them in rimfire. I may do a follow-up video on that topic and if I forget to give you credit, call it out in the comments! Thanks for watching and contributing my friend!

Are there retailers that you can buy a series of lots from (by the box), then go back and pick up a brick?

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  5 місяців тому

Hi Greg! You can certainly call certain retailers like Norma directly and talk to them. Tell them you shoot competitively and see if they'll work with you. Brownells, Midway, etc... are other options, but they may have a minimum order. Some manufacturers also have the option to buy lots by specific lot numbers, for example, if you go to Whidden Gun Works (www.whiddengunworks.com/product/lapua-center-x-ammunition-22-long-rifle-500/) you'll see that option. Finally, you might send your rifle into a testing center (like capstone www.capstonepg.com/rpc/) and let them provide you with the best lot of ammo (they only focus on Lapua) for YOUR rifle. When you test, you can then purchase a LARGE quantity of that lot...When I got my Vudoo, I bought 5,000 rounds from them after testing. BUT, if you change your barrel like I did, that testing may go out the window and you're back to square 1! Thanks for watching my friend!

Ha! Yes my friend...22LR is 'fun' for me, but centerfire is exciting and much more predictable in my opinion because I AM the manufacturer of the round. Thanks for watching my friend!
