Well now this was an interesting video and I have shot thousands of rounds of the federal auto match and it has performed very well for me. I like using bulk ammo because the one thing I enjoy about shooting a 22 LR is that it's economical.
22LR is definitely economical to shoot compared to the cost of 223/556 especially if doing transition drills, reloads or sling manipulation. The only thing 22 can't simulate is recoil, but that's for another day
I purchased a case of the .22lr Federal Auto Match Ammunition and got similar results with my CZ-457 Royal 22 Rifle. Its a huge money saver and plenty accurate for most people.
Good results for sure. I use Federal Automatch religiously. It works very well in all of my rifles. Generally shooting better than CCI std. velocity ammo, and much less expensive. You can also find it at the local Walmart. For around $21/box (325 rounds), it is dang hard to beat.
Love the video! Nice shooting also. This auto match out performed their own punch ammo in gel tests also. For the price you cant beat it for simple target and plinking.
I bought a box of this today. I was impressed. Two rifles were tested my 1022 Ruger and my Savage model 19 NRA. Both rifles did well. It was very windy here but was able to connect to a 1 inch swinging plate at 40 yards. I'll be going back to Walmart ugh to buy a few more boxes. I have the lot number and hope to get more of that.
This was one awesome test regardless of the ammo. I've only two pistols to test this ammo and have in the past few months. Out of my old 617 S&W and a Model 41, groups were every bit as good as CCI Standard. The only reason I don't buy more is I prefer a slightly lower velocity for the Model 41. I've not tried it in my High Standards. Sucks how costly and scarce .22LR now is.
I have about 10k of the auto match on hand. Accuracy, when the ammo works, is not the issue. Reliability is the issue. Using the pandemic, I was buying auto match as it was the only ammo available. From a box of 325 rounds, my wife and I would get 25+ failures to fire. Even after owning the round so the firing pin would strike a different spot, we’d still have issues. We also had underpowered rounds…..very little or no powder. The only thing setting off the round was the primer. Instead of bang…..we’d get a pop. I watched the bullet arc towards the target. Newer batches seem to be better. As an accurate, bulk plinking ammo it’s okay. For serious target shooting or in matches, I would find something better.
Some of the stuff I picked up during covid seems like absolute garbage, I quit using it when two shots out of a pistol sounded like they were being shot through a suppressor.
Thus stuff is great and I shoot it all the time plus there is a shop that sells Automatch at way better rates than any other shop around. I've had great success with Automatch in multiple 22LR rifle makes.
For a while walmart Automatch was the only decent option for buying 22lr for me so I’ve shot a fair amount - it does not run great in my Beretta m9-22 or in my CMMG conversion for my 16” AR But of course is great in my lever gun Mini Mags run flawlessly in all and can still be had for 10cpr so I buy them and whatever is the cheapest I can find for my Henry h001
Mini mags run great in general and still relatively inexpensive, but unfortunately it's over my max of 8cpr. And you can't beat 22 from a level gun, so much fun
I've shot so much of this ammo in my Henry it broke the firing pin...but, it did take thousands of rounds to do that...when I take the kids to the range this is the featured ammo, they love blowing it up...the Henry enroute to the mothership for repair, hopefully won't take too long...(we own a couple other .22 levers, but that particular Henry is MY gun)...
Have you ever used it for small game?? Always been a CCI mini-mag guy for small game hunting with my CZs. But i have over 2000rds of the AutoMatch, makes me wanna try it out.
What’s the rifle and distance? Great video BTW. I have been looking on this ammo but it’s a bulk. Last bulk I bought were Rems and it’s crap shoot almost every other 8 or 10 or so. This video brings me to trust bulk 22s again. Thanks.😊
This is range ammo for us, and we give it a solid B+, primarily because it is cheap...accuracy is sporadic, with a true dud every now and then...fed mostly to our levers and revolvers, as the autos will occasionally choke on it...this is the box ( or two) that you grab when the kids want to go to the range, they will happily blow it up, and you'll be a hero...lol...
Just received a box of this ammo. Wondering what riffle you're using and what distance? Good to see a south Fla brotha as I grew up in homestead. Good shooting and info. Thank you!
Good video. What is the shooting distance and what is the average group size including the flyers? I tried Auto Match, Aguila Extra, CCI standard velocity, and Armscore with my M&P 15-22. Auto Match is reliable, but underperforms both the Aguila and CCI in term of grouping size.
My results differs for Federal auto match for both my Ruger precision rimfire and Savage b22 fv. I get moa performance in comparison to CCI standard velocity, Aquila super extra and Norma tac 22 with sub moa performance. I did find that the Federal auto match performs well in my Ruger SR 22 and Chiappa 1911-22.
Two of my rifles love this stuff. Picked up two cases of this before the ny law changed I figured hey why not. This will hold me over till that douche Hochul gets replaced , good video thanks 👍👍👍👍
Looks like your rifle likes the ammunition. I have some I need to try in my CZ bolt gun and see how it performs. I a ruger 45/22 pistol that loves it. But a Ruger SR22 that doesn’t like it. And a 10/22 that shoots it good . Thanks for your video. 👍
Automatch works fine for me. Does anyone have any experience with Winchester M*22 ammo? Marketed as .22lr ammo designed to function reliably in semi-auto rifles.
@@01rcpena it ran in my Ruger 10/22s and Smith & Wesson 15-22 but that's not really saying much as all of those will eat anything. I recall having a couple fail to feeds and / or stovepipes in my Browning Buckmark. I have another P08 copy that wouldn't have anything to do with it, but she's a picky girl. In my opinion, not worth the higher price for the target shooting I do. I do know Winchester did have problems with this line a while back. I am not a fan or buyer of Winchester rimfire products anymore. I've just had too many better experiences elsewhere. There's about 10 or so types of 22 that I will go for if the price is right or I'm doing something specific, but I stick with federal automatch for my bulk plinking.
I had some Winchester M-22 that was 45 grain with a black coating. It was not good, not reliable, not accurate, not clean. It sounded like a good idea for a heavier bullet to use for self defense . It just didn't work out.
Does it matter where you buy your ammo? Will ammo bought at a high end chain likely perform better than the same ammo bought at Walmart? Do ammo manufacturers raise or lower production standards depending on the company buying the product?

Be careful shaking and banging around rimfire ammo. You can make it less reliable because it can loosen the priming compound 🤷
