I'm from grant. Instead of hanging outside the building all day. I went to school, got a job and now I live in the suburbs and my kids go to private school. I know all these dudes or recognize them. It's not that hard. It's about choices. We grew up in the center of Manhattan surrounded by opportunity. Grant was never that hard. It got busy but it was not hard to make it. The men here made an effort to choose the streets. Growing up in Manhattan is super easy to make it. I wish my fellow black men would leave the streets alone and just get a damn job before they label you a felon and destroy your life.

Talk that talk playboy. I been saying for years that people are not a product of their environment, they're a product of the choices they make. The sad thing is that in the hood the dudes that go to school and stay out of the streets are called soft, corny, lame. They not keeping it real. Our mindset as a collective is all screwed up.

I came from Grant too. Spent 27 years there, but I was probably long gone before any of them was born. To me, I think East 125th was worse? But you're right about choices. Teachers were teaching, if you really wanted to learn and jobs were hiring if you wanted to work. Hung out, did dumb shit, watched my friends dying, getting hooked on drugs, going upstate over and over, so I finally grew up and got out. Sad but it will only be a certain percentage tat will ever make it out of there (or any hood). Glad to see you did though.

What these videos show me is how varied the lifestyle and experience of black people across the country are. There are black people in this country that see this lifestyle and environment as if it's a foreign country. People like to make it like being black in America is one shared experience but it's not. It depends on where you from and how you're raised. Period.

That's extremely obvious right here even in the New York area within the 5 boroughs and West Chester county don't even have to go to a place that much further the Black population is a very diverse population from Africans to African Americans and people from the Islands definitely isn't just one shared experience. Canarsie Brooklyn has some really beautiful neighborhoods and that area is pretty much 100% black with people mostly from the Islands mainly Jamaica and Trinidad completely different than from some other areas in NYC.

Yo young fellas just a quick word from Uncle Al a Harlem Native
Long before any of you were born, Grant and Manhattanville had generations of young Black Men that lived the same way you’re living now. Many are just getting home from a 25 year bid while the others are long dead. But if they could be real with you they’d tell you your lifestyle has a very unhappy short lived ending. Going in and out of the Pen from Rikers to down state to upstate is a bullshit life.. Here’s what you’re going to experience… The Local Police of the 26th pct knows who you are and as a result of their familiarity with you, you can count on being busted again on some real petty bogus nonsense just enough to put you back in front of the Judge who is going make sure you head up North for a spell. That’s where you’re going to realize That the Judge gave you football numbers and you won’t be coming home til 2040-2050. Yawl have a chance to break the chains of this insanity NOW while you still possibly can. I hope you all make the right choice to become the Men your community needs. Peace to you all do the right thing.

So true bro. Applies to all.races. I'm white from west Canada vancouver Island a town of like 300k people and run down and controlled by OC the HA is the power and the drugs are flooded constantly. It was a rough place to grow up and I just did what was right in front of me what all my friends did and.what they're big brothers and fathers did.. everyone in the streets selling dope in and outta the system..
I.didnt do Juvie time.but had Juvie assault charges but right when I turned 19 I got popped selling dope up island jna. Trap house with like 18.5 grams of hard and did a year for that.
Been in and out consistently.. did a 4 year fed bid for 2 handguns and a.couple ounces.of.dope in my Condo..
More assaults and a couple more dope.charg3s and now here I am at 38.
With all my close bros ALL doing double digits.
12 close bros dead from gun.violence and Overdose and police chase In stoly. Smfh.
One of my bros just got hit with Life a couple.months ago.
      Another just got.pinched with 400 grams.of.fentanyl.
My dogg.mikey D pinched with 15 guns and.500k worth of drugs.
Smfh the cops.are very fuckin familiar with me and my bros and they ain't letting up.
I'm tryna change my life it's hard bro.
Working legit 9 to 5 after being a criminal ur whole life.isnt easy...
      But I'm toughin it out.
Cuz in 2017 I got shot 4 times in 2 shootings 6 Mos apart and almost died was in a Coma bullet in the chest and leg and wrist in one shooting and a shotty spray to thr lower back in another shooting.
      Crazy fuckin life bro.

I'm Hispanic and grew up in NY in a bad neighborhood. Our own ppl turn our communities into this. It's our fault. That's why I don't feel any pity when these thugs complain about growing up tough and that they had little to no opportunities. Yes, there are exceptions to certain situations depending on the specific circumstances, but for the most part it's all bullsh*t. These thugs want to look cool, look gangster, and want east money simply bc they're too lazy to actually go out and find a job. We're in one of the most richest countries on the face of this Earth, little to no opportunities don't exist here, only opportunities that you have to look for yourself exist.

Even Keith Sweat got handled and he was from 430. I Grew up in GP since 81 in 3150. Even though I don't live there anymore, it's still my stomping grounds. Had a lot of fun, a Lotta fights. The reason they are doing this is because of the relative inequality in the area. That is to say its ok to be in a poor area, just not next to rich people. It makes violence among men go up and my hypothesis for this is that its a game theory issue. This is their best opportunity to get dignity and even status (at least as far as they can see) for the purpose of attracting women. This can be manipulated by the media (which it has been) in order to steer it in different directions. Well our media promotes ego. Ego ego ego. Pride pride pride. Evil is good and good is evil. Bible prophecy is literally playing out exactly. Christ is not a religion. Its a being. Its inside you and in your environment. Just ask for a sign and you will get one. Again its not an ideology. There is a real conscious being in control of this place.
