I'm from grant. Instead of hanging outside the building all day. I went to school, got a job and now I live in the suburbs and my kids go to private school. I know all these dudes or recognize them. It's not that hard. It's about choices. We grew up in the center of Manhattan surrounded by opportunity. Grant was never that hard. It got busy but it was not hard to make it. The men here made an effort to choose the streets. Growing up in Manhattan is super easy to make it. I wish my fellow black men would leave the streets alone and just get a damn job before they label you a felon and destroy your life.
Talk that talk playboy. I been saying for years that people are not a product of their environment, they're a product of the choices they make. The sad thing is that in the hood the dudes that go to school and stay out of the streets are called soft, corny, lame. They not keeping it real. Our mindset as a collective is all screwed up.
@@jorgieporgie751 that’s how you make money... you have to work at least 9-5, I use to work 80 hours a week no bull shit. If you wanna make it in this world you have to grind
I came from Grant too. Spent 27 years there, but I was probably long gone before any of them was born. To me, I think East 125th was worse? But you're right about choices. Teachers were teaching, if you really wanted to learn and jobs were hiring if you wanted to work. Hung out, did dumb shit, watched my friends dying, getting hooked on drugs, going upstate over and over, so I finally grew up and got out. Sad but it will only be a certain percentage tat will ever make it out of there (or any hood). Glad to see you did though.
What these videos show me is how varied the lifestyle and experience of black people across the country are. There are black people in this country that see this lifestyle and environment as if it's a foreign country. People like to make it like being black in America is one shared experience but it's not. It depends on where you from and how you're raised. Period.
That's extremely obvious right here even in the New York area within the 5 boroughs and West Chester county don't even have to go to a place that much further the Black population is a very diverse population from Africans to African Americans and people from the Islands definitely isn't just one shared experience. Canarsie Brooklyn has some really beautiful neighborhoods and that area is pretty much 100% black with people mostly from the Islands mainly Jamaica and Trinidad completely different than from some other areas in NYC.
One thing I'll never miss being in the housing projects is the constant cars beeping at each other and the police sirens every 5 mins. This suburb shit is lovely.

Yo, what's really crazy is that I attended P.S. 125 when it was still two schools: the "regular" PS 125 school and the "computer" school. I don't know who remembers, but the 'computer school' was like an upgraded/honors version. I remember Mr. Reese and some other people from the computer school. The "computer school" was re-integrated with the rest of the school; around that time, I was transferred to ICE which wanted to be Stuyvesant/Bx HS of Science for junior high. Watched this video like 4 times -- memories are crazy. God damn.

I have a lot of friends and family from Harlem and I used to ask them what projects in Harlem were the livest back in the days. None of them ever never mentioned Grant. They said Grant and Manhattanville made little noise compared to the other projects uptown. Wagner, Polo, Lincoln, Foster, and St Nick are the main one's on people's list as the worst
Damn I be doing Uber eats in those projects and it’s not a bad area but yea grant can get a little sketchy sometimes but they’re like 3 blocks away from Columbia University and the surrounding neighborhood is nice… so the hood is really a bubble

From one black brother to another, rich or poor, as long as you're there to protect me and the neighborhood, that's all that matter. We all have a life to live. And if this is the life they choose to live, I respect it. The main dude wants to build up his neighborhood. Maybe our local government needs to listen to him because he knows more about giving back to the kids more than what our own government knows. Who's idea was it to remove the backboard and nets from the basketball court? Seriously?
I understand where they are coming from but why don't they just buy basketball hoops and put the work for the community in themselves, if your hustling I'm sure there is enough cash for atleast one hoop
The reason they are doing this is because of the relative inequality in the area. That is to say its ok to be in a poor area, just not next to rich people. It makes violence among men go up and my hypothesis for this is that its a game theory issue. This is their best opportunity to get dignity and even status (at least as far as they can see) for the purpose of attracting women. This can be manipulated by the media (which it has been) in order to steer it in different directions. Well our media promotes ego. Ego ego ego. Pride pride pride. Evil is good and good is evil. Bible prophecy is literally playing out exactly. Christ is not a religion. Its a being. Its inside you and in your environment. Just ask for a sign and you will get one. Again its not an ideology. There is a real conscious being in control of this place.

I lived in that area...damn, this video brings back memories. Dangerous, but home is home. I moved from there a while ago, but I remember each and every single spot. Jimbo's, the corner store, the nail store, laundromat on the corner, the poultry/live chicken spot, the dead-end driveway after the bus depo..endless memories
God damn.

1st off Grant is not scary nor dangerous. These are young cats that finally grew up in Grant. GP was worse back in the days and I mean really bad. At that time was really the Era where you couldn't just walk through and there was seriously a lot of shootings. Crack Era days. We talking Rich porter, Alpo, AZ and preacher crew Era. Even Keith Sweat got handled and he was from 430. I Grew up in GP since 81 in 3150. Even though I don't live there anymore, it's still my stomping grounds. Had a lot of fun, a Lotta fights. RIP Chicken. That was some bullsh*t! Peace to all my n*ggas that be in the parking lot of 75. Peace to a few n*ggas I know from 1315 & 430. Peace to all these young n*ggas doing this vid. But, Try to do something else with your life like schooling, get certified in something, get licensed for whatever, hustling is not forever. Don't get sucked into the project life cuz that sh*t seriously sucks you in. By the time n*ggas know it you be 60 still talking the same and still dressing like you 19 at 60. Crazy. Bless ya! 🙌

Polo Grounds is the worst, my cousin is from there

It’s like that all over the city. I live in Syracuse and the hoods and good parts are farther from each other and it’s also more segregated than somewhere like Harlem.
Seriously?
All Bout Chicken 🍗 💀💀💀⚰️⚰️🔥😂😂💀💀⚰️⚰️⚰️😂😂😂
To lazy to install a backboard and rim.
