Back in the days (80s and 90s), you did not want to walk through the Fort. There weren’t many places in NYC then where you could be shot with no questions asked. Most places might beat you down or rob you and shoot as a last resort. But the Fort, ENY, Vanderveer, etc , you could be shot just for being an unfamiliar face. They had some nice Ladies out there too.
Imagine the growth that would happen if we focused the seemingly profound sense of loyalty and brotherhood that is shared amongst us in “the hood” into actually improving our current reality, as one nation of people. We have the ingredients, but we just don’t have the right recipe.

You said a mouth full, "SURROUNDINGS" staying trapped in places like that won't allow them to experience anything different.
I started working for NYCHA in January 2002 and did about 3 weeks of training at Fort Greene on the Ingersoll side. One of those weeks fell on a payday and nikkas thought we was getting paid 🤣We was getting all kinds of looks and we had to leave in groups. Come to find out Fort Greene nikkas was known for robbing housing workers and they even rob the trainees even though we didn't get paid. It was my first time and last time over there lol. Being from the Bronx I never messed with BK anyway until I met my ex who lived in the Bamaz in East New York of all places
TBH All these dudes did was represent and be proud of where they came from. No, it may not be as flamboyant as a lot of places you all came from, but they are proud of it. And btw these guys are young maybe they will find their way in life and make it to a better situation. i didn't see not one act of violence in this video.... I'm black and from Valley Green projects in SE DC, I remember acting wow as a younster now i own several properties and is set to retire at 55. I like to encourage our young people because i'm sure someone said the same thing about me.

Back in the 70’s and 80’s, Ft. Green was the most notorious and dangerous housing project in Brooklyn.
Bear in mind, there are multiple projects with different names in Ft. Greene. But yeah, it was dangerous, especially Farragut.

We could've been banded together to lift these communities up and keep our brothas in check for literal decades. Like 30, 40, 50 years. And we STILL have our folks glamorizing violence and gang activity. But then when these big companies start pushing us out of these neighborhoods to gentrify them, we complain and raise pitchforks. Vicious cycle going on in the housing projects year after year
Back in the days (80s and 90s), you did not want to walk through the Fort. There weren’t many places in NYC then where you could be shot with no questions asked. Most places might beat you down or rob you and shoot as a last resort. But the Fort, ENY, Vanderveer, etc , you could be shot just for being an unfamiliar face.

That is something that is not wanted for us.

It always confuses my mind when they say you can't come to that neighborhood or ppl gotta check in and not a single one of these young men own piece of real-estate but think they own the block
