Note: USE BALANCED POWER PROFILE IF USING CHIPSET DRIVERS! Made a mistake at time of filming! Thank you for the hefty views over time. This tells me people are having a rough time with setting up the 7800x3d to this day😂 I'm considering making an updated setup guide for the 7950x3d also right before I give it to my girlfriend as an upgrade 👍
@@thedarkangelpt the boosting algorithms are tied to the power profiles on the 7000 X3D CPUs. Once the chipsets are installed, the balanced profile gets changed to boost the CPUs exactly as the chipset intends it. It generally is more important for consistency over anything, as most games work on High performance also...but just not all.
@@Beefy-Tech Ah.. AMD really needs to make this stuff clear. I have a 7950X3D and all I've done is set my ASUS X670E-E to the EXPO 1 profile. Of course out of habit in the OS I chose high performance for everything because I don't like windows shutting things down and what not. I noticed that I'm seeing boost over 6500mhz and NO WHERE online can I find anyone else experiencing this. I wonder if that's because I'm not using the balanced profile. I'll have to switch it when I get home to see if that changes the behavior. Also, AMD has now gotten rid of individual chipset driver downloads and require you to use an installer. The thing is, the installer doesn't detect your CPU if you have integrated graphics turned off in the bios. So, we now have to have integreated graphics turned on all the tiem - but now I'm wondering if this is also required for the X3D Vcache to work correctly on the 7000 series. AMD really needs to come out with a very clear step by step process of how to configure these chips.
I promised I was not going to hide settings to profit from it, and I am intending to keep that promise. This was not an overclocking guide though, just a setup guide for those who need it most ;) The CO / RAM overclocking video is coming, but i'm trying to finish the OC and make sure its stable prior to making the video.

@@Beefy-Tech Hey mate! Nice video! With my experiences, uploaded onto my channel here and I know it's in German, but less Slang-Words used, so the automatic translation should work out, I showed how to overclo... nah, it's not really overclocking, it's more like optimization for more performance, but okay. I made a step further, to disable the CCD1 of my 7950X3D, to run a profile whcih is optimized for gaming only and there I had adjusted the BCLK2 to 103.9MHz which isn't only resulting in a higher Boost-Clock of 5.400MHz, but also on every Multiplicator-Stepping in higher frequencies. The ammount of performance that you gain by this is completely insane ... But I love it! I'm excited to see what your hardware is able to reach! Currently I'm in contact with ASUS a lot, to figure out some problems that I got with the ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming Wifi because I want to aim for the maximum performance possible with my CPU, but therefor I have to prevent some Cores of the CCD1 to go higher than 5.840MHz, but the Boost-Clock-Limit "per Core" is currently not working, so I have to wait until Chinas Holidays ended and they can work on my problems. Until further contact I leave with friendly greetings!
I find it absolutely disturbing that you actually try to give "props" to someone for doin whats normall for the majority of people and then actually believing thats good ... I’m on windows 11 home, debloated and optimised. My cpu usage differs from 0-1% and my ram usage is really good to. I saw a different comment regarding this and just want to say that setting up windows 11 correctly makes it just as good if not better than windows 10.
That is just outrageous amount of voltage you have set and recommending win 10 when it will lose support within 1 year? Also turning off Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling, when it was introduced I would get it, because it wasn't perfect but now? It just hurts performance.
I am absolutely IN LOVE with Windows 11 and going back is going to be like firing up my old phone lol. I know you mentioned there’s a noticeable performance gap there. The only thing that has me potentially debating it is the crazy USB Mass Storage disconnecting. My friend said going back to 10 fixed it and bumped his FPS up by like 20. Also how about the beauty and ease of the MSI bios - I have to use integrated graphics when using the RTX 4090 after a DDU, no picture is a consistent issue but I’ll boot in via the iGPU and activate the drivers and swap over the DP cable. Great work on this video overall my boiiii!
you must have something switched up in your bios for you needing to use the IGPU after a display driver uninstall, anmd 4090 or any 40 series doesnt play any factor into that. my 4090 has no issue what-so-ever giving me a display even after using DDU or not. i would look around in the bios bud, just doesnt seem right at all or the settings in your DDU application could be the factor. cant remember what its called but at the bottom of the settings window there is a option to block all windows display drivers from installing after using and uninstalling your drivers in DDU, you may have that enabled but still that isnt how its supposed to work on any gpu or pc with a igpu. if your pc detects a dedicated gpu on startup then its using that dedicated gpu for the display, unless you switch that off in bios, every bios is supposed to work like that sorta the chain of command on who takes control when one or the other is detected

Hey Beefy man! thank you a lot for these golden tips, but I got confused about the high Voltages you applied on bc of what I've been told is 1.6 is sort of redline that should "destroy" the 7800x3d CPU. So please if you can highlight this info as I need this specially from a AMD's tech-expert like you, forget to mention the which I found it scary as well. Edit: This guy deserves way more than this amount of subs (3.4k) come on! let's do it o/ and +1 here.
Vsoc at 1.3v is pretty much perfectly safe, which is why it's the limit AMD allows even after the fiasco with exploding cpu's. The vdd and vdduo are voltages tied to the ram, and those you can even push 1.7volts on if needed aslong as you can keep it stable. These A die and M die kits require crazy voltage to overclock, but they are luckily more resilient than the previous gen ddr4, meaning at 1.6v you basically can't damage them if you keep them cooled properly with a fan. The purpose behind those voltages are to push cl26 to cl28 on the ram, which is insanely difficult to achieve stability on, basically requiring hefty voltages to even boot.
@@Beefy-Tech Thank you, and I appreciate your incredible efforts, my experience when I pushed those VDD_IO/ VDD/VDDQ to 1.43 my anxiety hit 200% ,now I'm running (6400cl30/2166fclk)(GDM off)(PDM off) I didn't find errors with Karhu 20k% before,+ Y-cruncher,+ Linpack, but for some reason last night on OCCT I had crazy errors under 10min it was like +70 errors before I stop the test (ram 80% cap.)stress test, then I tried Karhu and I run (80% manually 26000 MB) stress test with CPU cache on and I did (7000% in 2 hours) with 0 errors, so I'm confused, could it be OCCT bug or there is something I should worry about? btw I run this Karhu test on 8 Threads, and OCCT was running on 16 Threads. Any tip about it is going to refresh my day, bc I was happy running these timings for more than a week and so far so good until last night.
@@Rochi7 it could just be a different type of workload showing instability. If it make you feel better, I've even ran 1.75volts on an M die kit attempting cl26 and the kit is still perfectly fine and capable. These ram sticks are insanely resilient, far far more than bdie used to be. If you do try push voltage on ram, try 1.45 - 1.5 for daily use with no fans, nothing more. Past that, you guaranteed need a ram fan or water cooling on ram. Also if you have vdd at 1.43 for example, vddq should be 1.33v (0.10 lower) at all times. It'll help with stability
Man I bought the system with ram that supports 5600 MHz and I couldn’t get the system to boot past 5200 And I later saw it was the max cpu supported but thanks to this video I have now learned it’s possible to get more out of your ram so thank you vary much sir

@@matthewcooksey5411I tried MSI Afterburner and it was the same. I rather just leave it at stock so I never crash. Performance gains from UV are negligible.
It’s no longer correct to assert Windows 10 is preferable for 7800X3D. Considering the optimisations over time in AMD’s drivers and Microsoft’s thread scheduler, there’s no reason to avoid Win11 any more. I’ve recently set up a 7800X3D system with Win11 Pro and it works just fine
Unless you have a cpu that has/uses eco cores, I recommend sticking with win10 until after AT LEAST more than half the users on steam have been using using win11 for a couple months (so that there's time for a decently sized win11 patch to drop). We're not there yet.

"It's not always best to have the chipset drivers installed", can you expand on this as I feel like this is something that need further information, is this reported somewhere as to the reason why you should vs shouldnt, is this something you have tested an experienced issues?
The boosting algorithms and the core allocations are affected by chipset drivers, but without them their behaviour gets dictated just by the power plans. Meaning high performance power plan and no chipset drivers will work for a 7800x3d, and so will chipset drivers + balanced power plan (chipset drivers change the boosting algorithms of balanced power plan to work well with 7800x3d) this basically gives you options to choose from in terms of setup.

The timings shown there are specific for A die kits, and not only that I'm running a fan on my ram to keep the Temps down at the voltage required to keep the timings. I'd recommend using the M die timings I use in my 7950x3d setup guide from 5 months ago.
Be careful with setting pbo limit to motherboard as it can affect your cpu lifespan with higher voltage. Also, if you have like a 3080 or 4080 then disabling integrated graphics won’t be much of a performance boost as your system is going to prioritize the gpu rather then the integrated gpu
to anyone actually wondering yes yes and yes windows 10 does perform drastically better than 11 on this chip i was almost 1000 score under on 3d timespy on windows 11 since switching to 10 im getting 300 over average with no overclocks
Important: some settings will increase consumption, temperatures, and reduce the useful life of the processor depending on the overclock. I do not recommend overclocking modern processors. On the contrary, if your intention is to reduce consumption and temperatures without affecting performance, it is better to undervolt. High performance power modes will keep processor frequencies at maximum constantly (not usage). Balanced mode will cause these frequencies to fluctuate based on system demand.

Definitely think the 7800x3d is the play fam. For gaming it will be easily winning, for multi threading it'll lose, but the multi threading difference for normal consumer use won't be insanely noticeable, but the gaming difference will be insanely noticeable! The 1% lows on AMD are not a problem, infact they are awesome. The 7800x3d will future proof up to a 4090 guaranteed, and it provides a multiple year upgrade path, while LGA 1700 only has 14th gen left in it.

I am undecided on which AM5 MB and RAM sticks to get. I know for a fact that I do not want A-Die rams, so any recomendations?
I'm going to convince you to go for a 7800x3d even more. After I finished overclocking my 7800x3d, it turned out to be a better bin than my 7950x3d, which meant it was easily able to run 6400mhz at cl28 36 36 36 + subtimings, and in turn it BEAT my 7950x3d by 10FPS in averages, and by 15-20FPS in the 1% lows :D. Do keep in mind, I did this on A-die ram, on M die ud lose about 5-7fps because you can't push it as far, but 5-7FPS isn't much so I wouldn't worry about it. If you don't want A die, your literal only option is M die. If you are going for M die, motherboard doesn't matter at all basically, and you can go for virtually any mobo you like. The cheapest good mobo you can possibly get is either a Giganyte B650 Aorus Elite,ASUS ROG Strix B650-A, or the MSI B650 EDGE WIFI. If you want higher end, the Asrock Steel Legend X670E, or the ASUS X670E CROSSHAIR GENE are great.

I recommend either aiming for 6400mhz at 1:1 manual settings or aiming 7800-8000mhz 2:1 manual settings. Going for 7200mhz means you'll need to run the FCLK, MCLK, and UCLK uncoupled...but with only 7200mhz you aren't making up for the latency penalty of running 2:1 as your frequency isn't high enough, so you'll lose performance over both 6400mhz 1:1 or 7800-8000mhz 2:1. I recommend 6400mhz option at 1:1 settings for the fact it's easy and consistent to achieve and it performs 99% of the way of DDR5 8000mhz at 2:1.

My over clock that is rock solid in Prime95 for over 24hrs crashes in WZ randomly. Had to increase voltage from Prime95 undervolt by about +20 per core. Per core voltage is obviously different on both CPUs but having to increase voltage in WZ VS Prime is the same.
Wanted to request if you can create a video on 7800x3d 7900xtx SAM on vs SAM off. I haven't seen any online. I have the 7800x3d but not the 7900xtx or anything close to it at the moment..
I went to CO and set all to -40 and all working fine till now no crashes nothing at all, am I lucky? cause when I had 5600x when i went over -15CO I used to get crashes in games, or even BSODS
I wonder if you can make a video with the TUF GAMING bios settings? I watched several times the video and the settings and their naming is completely different. So, in my BIOS i set the resize bar to on (it was on), disabled the integrated GPU, enabled expo II, enabled memory context (because without it, the boot was very long or didn't boot at all), enabled PBO (didn't touch other PBO settings) and set the curve to negative 20. Thats all I did in the bios. After that, when I stress with AIDA 64, it puts the CPU at 5.04, but when I enable FPU stress or memory stress along with the CPU stress, the clocks drop to 4.6. Is that normal behaviour? Shouldn't it stay at 5.05 all the time?
I changed PBO to -30 all cores. PBO limits to motherboard. CPU Boost Clock override to limit 200 (positive). And I got worse fps but lower temps ingame. Is this expected result?
No, if you got worse results, your OC is improper, and most likely unstable. Change it to -15 best core, -25 all other cores, then set CPU boost clock override to 0 (this only HURTS performance on a 7000x3d, it doesn't boost clocks above threshold at all) and set the cpu limits to "Motherboard".
first of all pbo is used to sustain cpu frequency. You’re getting diminishing returns because you are using 2 settings that do the same thing…. Just use pbo & pbo limits. set the thermal throttle limit to 60c. on ryzen the boost clocks are inconsistent past 60c. Your welcome
@@Rinnzlerr try an all core of- 25 first without out using a thermal throttle limit. I found that it is better to not use a limit. depending on your motherboard, ram ic’s, timings, frequency & voltage I can help you set up your ram & mobo settings

I'm using a G skill 7600mhz 32gb kit detuned to 6400Mhz at CL28, with full manual timings. If your Tforce delta lot is a 7200mhz+ kit, it will most likely work with my settings IF you have a good cpu bin. If not, you'd have to run these settings at 6200mhz/2067 FCLK.

I’m on windows 11 home, debloated and optimised. My cpu usage differs from 0-1% and my ram usage is really good to. I saw a different comment regarding this and just want to say that setting up windows 11 correctly makes it just as good if not better than windows 10.
Why home over pro? Is home faster?
That is just outrageous amount of voltage you have set and recommending win 10 when it will lose support within 1 year?
Also turning off Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling, when it was introduced I would get it, because it wasn't perfect but now? It just hurts performance.
Most people refuse to go to Windows 11 and most people will not when Windows will be forced updated
And you're also wrong about GPU hardware accelery scheduling it's completely based on if your GPU or your CPU is better
Thank you man, my computer runs much better now.
This guide is especially great for me since I have the Mini ITX version of this board.

1125 seems stable to me but it's really tricky to know for sure as I still get driver crashes in games that may be a bit unoptimized. Trying just a minimal install of adrenaline and msi afterburner to see if it's more stable.

Yes, you are correct. This video is outdated fam, W11 is in fact better right now with the 23H2 version.
Unless you have a cpu that has/uses eco cores, I recommend sticking with win10 until after AT LEAST more than half the users on steam have been using using win11 for a couple months (so that there's time for a decently sized win11 patch to drop). We're not there yet.

@@Beefy-Tech thank you mate, i apreciate your work
Is this information still applicable in 2024? Also would you recommend installing the chipset drivers?
So better leave it to the balance?

Man, if you ever come here in Romania, you have a half of pig on barbeque and a mountain of fries with special sauce and as much beer and tzuica as you can dip:0..same gpu and soon same cpu..i will copy this like a bible:)) thx alot man.
Lmao. For sure fam😂
Brilliant video. If I don’t want to play with per core values is there a sweet spot when using all cores ?
It's usually a lottery type of setting, personally would just do -20 and go down 5 at a time until stable. Doing individual cores won't yield enough for the time/effort put in.
Do I need to flash bios on the motherboard before putting the 7800x3d in? Or will I be fine updating the bios normally. I got the 7800x3d with the MSI mpg b650 carbon wifi, I don't wanna fry it but I also would rather not have to use the flash bios, it sketches me out.
You can do either option and be safe as long as you do it on day 1👍
@@Beefy-Tech Sweet! Thank you for answering! 🤝
Can someone explain what does 10x scalar actually do?
thanks for the viideo, do you have any recommendations for an asus b650 board? or do the bios settings you showed translate over? Also would you still reccomend disabling HAGS for a 4090, i never had the option with my 7900XTX but it shows now with the 4090. Thanks again :)
I recommend disabling HAGS 100% for sure. Only time hags on is better is for laptops, where the occasional laptop will perform better with HAGS on.
Also, any asus board that isn't bottom of the barrel is fine basically, don't have specific recommendations.
If you use frame generation in other games, HAGS is needed. Unless youre only playing mw2, i'd keep it on
@@ghostcreeper_ I personally don't use frame gen, but for that scenerio I can understand HAGS being on, I'm just stating the best settings for achieving the highest FPS at native res basically👍
Thank you, main issue i have with some games are 1% lows. Its not every game but it gets quite annoying when it happens. Will test hags off for sure.@@Beefy-Tech
can undervolting a 7800x3d possibly hurt anything? Like the internal memory controller? The reason I ask is that I recently had to replace my 7800x3d because of a bad memory controller.
I had a -30 on all cores PBO on mine. I would run some stress test and I never had any problems. To be honest I never really had any issues running -35 on all cores either. ITs just the gains were marginal so I just set it at -35. But one day my computer woudn't post to bios. I thought it might be a bad RAM, or MOBO, so I replaced those, and I still couldn't post. It wasn't until I tried replacing the CPU did it just boot up just fine.
I probably replaced the mobo and ram for no reason. I actually didn't replace the ram, I bought new ram to see if it was the issue and it wasn't.
I was trying to run AMD EXPO of 6400 cl32, but I capped the speed at 6000 just because peopel said the 1:1 ratio for the infinity cache was optimal at this speed.
I'm trying to find out what could have caused my CPU Internal memory controller to go bad only 3 months old.
Could it have been running AMD EXPO?
Could it have been running undervolt on cpu?
Could it have been the damn cable mod extensions?
Just stumbled on your video as a new 7800x3d owner. CPU VDD SOC refers to voltage supplied to memory controller? When set to auto mine stays at a constant 1.025v. Will manually setting to 1.300v be safe? Could this be playing a part as to why my system becomes unstable when turning on EXPO (6000mhz ram)?
Ty helped out a lot
why is it better to be on windows 10 instead of 11 with this processor? do i gain more performance on the older os or there are some issues on the newer one that arent fixed as of now

Hi beefy what's the best CPU Ryzen 7000 for both Gaming and handling Premiere Pro 2023 & other video editors
I wanted to go with 7800X3D but its gonna help only in Gaming, but what about rendering videos 4k gameplay etc
Could the 7800X3D handle that or should I pick 7950X instead ?
7800X3D is perfectly fine for most video editors, but a 7950X3D will be the best option if you do heavy editing and working with 4K timelines.
hi there, im using the same setup as you do. a 7800x3d and a 7900 XTX. i got a problem with the energy options, when i select ultimate performance it switches back to balanced as soon as i restart my pc or turn it on after shutdown.

hello sir , if u can share your toughts on this plz.
i want to use 7000mhz , 7200mhz ram speed while using xmp or expo for my gaming experience.
Its easy to just turn on expo on x3d series and reach 7200? do i need to do manual setting or its impossible.
Would appriciate if you reply sir.
Great content btw
Thanks alot big brother.
Means alot , Appriciate it.@@Beefy-Tech

Decided to get 14700k instead of 7800x3d for gaming.
High frames are good but smooth gameplay is better , saw 7800x3d frame drops from 350 to 250 while intel frame drops from 260 to 230-240 , i guess this will give us users a bit more smooth experience even tho it got less fps than amd.

How to undo the driver ? Because you say maybe its worse when chipset driver on, how to set it back to default?
the whole windows 10 thing is bologna, this has been fixed and proven like months ago, maybe at the beginning of Windows 11 being dropped... But if you know how to properlly debloat windows 11 and optimize it and i stress the key word PROPERLLY. Now at start up my optimized Win11 Pro os has only 91 processes on the CPU with a luaghable percentage usage bouncing from 0-1% also am using less ram than a stock windows 10 os.
You are right, but 99% of users don't know what the word debloat means, so they wouldn't be able to make it work. I use custom windows myself, and it comes pre debloated and optimized with 70-85 processes by default, and indeed when fully optimized win 11 and 10 barely differ, and often win 11 performance is better on the GPU too.
When I referred to this in the video, I addressed the 99% who know no better than to use stock windows, and stock for stock, win 10 will work better in games.

Ironically in my setup I’ve got 7900xtx 7950x3d. I actually found interesting results in WarZone with results backed up with 2 separate 7950x3d CPUs.
My over clock that is rock solid in Prime95 for over 24hrs crashes in WZ randomly. Had to increase voltage from Prime95 undervolt by about +20 per core. Per core voltage is obviously different on both CPUs but having to increase voltage in WZ VS Prime is the same.
On my 7800x3d my prime 95 stable settings never crashed in warzone, so I'm not sure.
Wanted to request if you can create a video on 7800x3d 7900xtx SAM on vs SAM off.

thx for the video i have 7800x3d g.skill cl30 6000mhz rtx 4090 aero , i dont know why ican't get like your fps ? me max fps i got is 306
Could be because of the way your pc is set up bro,but I wouldn't be able to know without taking a look.
