My first Fish Story happened when I was a kid fishing with my Dad, Mom and Brother, fishing with a cane pole for sheepshead! I caught 9 fish on one drop… no, I didn’t hook a stringer of fish and it wasn’t a sheepshead… it was a pregnant stingray that gave birth to 8 live babies when dad brought her into the boat! Babies were released but Mama Ray ended up as crab bait for my grandfather who was a commercial fisherman… I was about 10 at the time… fun memory!
Wow, I’m sure that was a serious fight there lol. It’s crazy you mention that because every time of catch one of those big stingrays like that they all spit out babies when you land them
Good to see salt-water cane pole fishing. I grew up in Mobile, so I like to see where you’re fishing. Decades back we used to fish regularly with big, long cane poles - loads of fun!
50 years ago my dad would take folks cobia fishing with split crabs and giant bamboo poles. I still fish for sheepshead to this day with a split crab and a cane pole!
HELL YES,,,, That hookset though. Sheepshead is some of the best fishing you can do and with a cane pole.....WHAAAAAA. Can hardly wait for our charter with Capt.
Awesome video. As someone who has always fished 10lb plus cats on cane poles my only advice is stay at the end of the pole and keep line under 2/3 the length. Make em fight the pole not your triceps.
I just did some fishing off a saltwater pier yesterday and I had no luck with a regular rod and actually lost my brand new Diawa BG 3500 reel hub reaching my rod down towards the pylon. My drag knob came loose, lost that but was able to recover the hub by retrieving the line, got lucky. There was one time when I saw a gentleman using a bamboo pole and I had no clue why you would use one, until he was pulling black drums and sheepies off the Daytona Fishing Pier. After no luck yesterday trying to catch Sheepshead, I gave this method a second thought and decided to do a UA-cam search. Coming across your video clearly convinces me that this method makes perfect sense. Thanks for posting, I am now looking to purchase the ideal bamboo rod I can use on the pier. If you can make any recommendations, please do. Thanks
I lived in southern Maryland as a kid. We moved onto the naval air base and there was bamboo. I made a pole and went to the basin and would catch striped bass with worms. I was 8. They were all around 20”. It was fun back then. Lots of blue crabs. We moved to Florida when I was 10. Cane pole was the best.
@@CaptCollier the best place to catch them was in a restricted area the hovercraft ramp. I would get chased off a couple of times a year. One time the bite was good snd I would up at the front gate security. My father was not happy.
You were having WAY too much fun! I think I was grinning through the whole video. Hey, Bearded Brad steered me over here, and I think I'm gonna stay for a spell. Good stuff!
Fishing for them like that would be a hoot! Your lucky to have all that type of structure near you and it looks like you had it all to yourself which is even better. That place will be swarming with sheeps after a good hard cold front. In fact, looks like a good start already for this early in the season.
Oh yea for sure, we have so many different structures that hold sheeps it is very convenient because I can choose where I want to go depends on the wind direction. And the sheeps are in full swing right now definitely!
Hi from Australia brother, just subscribed coz l saw the cane pole and knew this will be good. Crazy fishing man, that Black Drum was huge and solid Sheepshead, would be so much fun, tight lines Captain 🎣 🐟 🇦🇺
Enjoyed the video! Reminded me of when I was kid. We used to use a cane pole to fish for sheepshead on the jetties at the mouth of the St. Johns River at Mayport..
Great Video. used to use something similar many years ago fishing for snook or whatever off the bridges in south Florida, We made our own Calcutta poles from Fla.cane plants, nothing like the thrill of catching big fish one on one with no drag.
@@CaptCollier Crawfish worked amazingly. We used to catch them when the end of the beach by the pier had a swamp. We would mop up on crawfish. Good luck! I’d say ask my brother, Scooter (MrItolduso), but he never did it. Ha! I hope we all get to fish sometime when I’m down or move back.
Hey man, just listened to the podcast you were in with beach bum and brad so thought I'd look you up. Pretty awesome video. I've never seen someone sheepshead fish with a cane pole before. You got yourself a new subscriber.
That looks awesome. I’m definitely doing that in my next video. I have a spot where a Cain pole would come in very handy. Great video, thanks. New to the channel by the way and love your stuff!!

Hey Brandon,I got a message from your site saying I had won a prize and it didn’t seem legit. They asked for some personal info. Just checking, thanks Rick
Haha yea no kidding. And those structures are to help protect the bank when there’s rough water or storm surge. Btw that was SPAMMERS, sorry about that
@@CaptCollier I've never tried artificial I've tried shrimp, oysters, barnacles, sand fleas and I've heard they eat squid too but fiddlers always work best over here in pensacola
This has got to be the most original content I've seen. Where there's a will there's a way!
Thanks I appreciate it, I’ve got a few more ideas up my sleeve that I’ve never seen anyone try before.
I got outfished a lot by my great grandfather who used his cane poles on his completely modern bass boat. Lol.

I live in NC and love to sheepshead fish from my kayak. I do have a question, what are the concrete blocks used for?
Good to hear, it’s fun catching them from a kayak as well. And those are there to help protect the marsh banks when we get rough weather
@@CaptCollier Thanks and I thought that is what they may have been used for but better to ask than assume. Thanks for answering my question.
Imma have to watch after the games
