    A few days ago, my daughter found two baby birds under a tree in our front yard. We couldn't find the nest or the momma, so we brought them in and googled "how to raise wild baby birds". Now four days later, I see what you mean about the bird growing so rapidly! I'm glad I watched this because we need to start incorporating bugs and worms into the diet, and perhaps have some "outdoor time" with them. Thank you!

    OMG, God Bless you for saving that precious baby burd's life!!!! I was pissed off (excuse my language) when I read you reached out for help and all they told you was "you should've left him on the ground"! I tell u my blood was boiling! I'm an animal lover myself, my favorite by far BIRDIES! I have a Jenday Conure I rescued @ 5 weeks from a breeder who had him (and his like 7 other siblings) in a fishtank with newspaper. I knew that with 3 children of my own, I wasnt going to b able to "adopt" more than one baby Jenday, so I picked the smallest, with less feathers sitting all the way in the back. I could tell he was either one of the youngest of the bunch or the smallest and being the smallest, it was difficult to get to the food without being "bullied away" by the bigger birds. So I took him home, did my homework, went online and read articles, watched videos on how to care for these kinds of birds Ms Rita Garris has WONDERFUL videos here on UA-cam. She's a breeder but she cares for those hatchlings as if they were her own children! Very much like I take care of my "Baby" (that's what my 12yrold daughter and I named him because he was the baby of the bunch and didnt know if "it" was a "he" or a "she" lol) We fed him formula 3x a day with syringe until he eventually weaned off and now he eats everything! Not only seeds & pellets, but food food. He (we still dont know the sex) loves fruits, raisin bread, rice, veggies almost anything u give him. Jendays are VERY noisy so he screams when he hears the door when I come home, when I come out of my room, he's out of his cage during the day usually following me around the entire house and he does say "momma" in a screaching voice of course. He just turn 2 last month and has bonded with me tremendously. I just dont know how people can do these little creatures of God any harm. They're here to love and be loved that's all they really want a little TLC!!! Thank You for caring for "Alberto" like u did. Many blessings will come to you.

    Made me cry. My rescued grackle still comes back everyday, and I always put food and water out for him, although he doesn't eat very much from the feeder. Sometimes he brings his grackle friend, I don't mind it. He's been living in the wild for a month now. I'll miss him if he doesn't come back anymore.

      I'm glad your grackle comes back. Albirdo never did. A swarm of grackles hung out around the house for a few days after but that was it. It is bitter sweet. What did you name him/her?

    • @totoyorkie6672
      @totoyorkie6672 9 років тому

      Erica's America I didn't name him at first, I was kinda afraid of being attached to him. Several times, I called him by my dog's name unintentionally Just recently I named him Gracko. He is about 7 months old now, still coming 2-3 times a day. I put him on youtube: Gracko TheGrackle. Check it out, he was about 3 months old then. I wish I made such a great documentation like you did when he was a baby.

    First of all, what an amazing and heartfelt story. You have such a beautiful soul to not only help raise him through the very beginning of his life when he was totally helpless and needed care, but integrating him into his natural environment the way you did was perfect. Second, to the person who said he wouldn't survive because his mother didn't teach him "survival skills", birds don't teach defensive strategies to their chicks, they are born with "fight or flight" built in, all birds are.

    Same here my bird I had been taking out side by the nest she fell out of. And it’s been a month I’ve had her. And she would go outside n fly around too but always stay near me. But she finally flew away. But then later that night it stormed. So I’m sad I hope she’s okay... I hope she comes and sees me soon.

  • @ERICAsamERICA
    @ERICAsamERICA  12 років тому +1

    Thank you so much :)
    I think the SPCA told me to leave him because sometimes the parents will still feed their babies even if they fall out of the nest. I took him because i didn't like the location he was at, it was too dangerous to be left on the ground.

      Hello, I am in the same boat as you with the baby bird. What did you find Alberto?

    • @ERICAsamERICA
      @ERICAsamERICA  4 роки тому

      @@carlavillasmil3125 first try and put it back in the nest. if that doesn't work make sure to try and call any local wildlife rehabilitation or ASPCA to see if professionals can take care of the little one, or ask if they know someone who can. If those don't work see if you or someone you know has time to commit to trying to save the little buddy. Odd are very low, so don't be too hard on yourself. do research on the kind of bird you have and then what this specific species needs(particularly with food). Keep them warm, hydrated, and away from loud noises. If its a baby you'll have to use a syringe (without the needle) to get them water and blended food. Good luck!

  • @heliharris69

    Well done... I did similar with a Blue Tit fledgling in England... He/She obviously fledged to early and looked like the runt of the nest and undeveloped.
    I saw the bird jump from the nesting box in my garden and crash land on the ground below... I fed the bird for 2wks and let him out in the garden during the day and fetched him to his budgie cage during the night. After 3 wks i found the bird dead in my garden... He/She looked in perfect condition not attacked... So i think the Bird had a heart condition or organ failure.

    I agree that since a baby bird on the ground has such limited odds anyway, then a human who is compassionate, and who knows how to feed a bird, should not be stopped. That is ridiculous. All parrots and their relatives are essentially wild birds stolen from their homes.

    I'm taking care of a rescued fledgling too at the moment and this gave me so much encouragement someone's been through what I'm going to, I was wondering at how many weeks did you begin to take him out to forage and start being on his own? Because even though my baby is fully feathered all he seems to do is just wait for me to feed him then knocks right out hahaha

    • @ERICAsamERICA
      @ERICAsamERICA  8 років тому +1

      start by finding out the species of your bird and do as much research as you can on it. find out what they eat in the wild and the time frame of their development. For Albirdo, i encouraged him to each on his own by first putting food next to him so he had to get it himself, then i gave him a couple of live bugs he had to chase around and catch. once he mastered that, and when he was used to being outside, i started feeding him less so he would be hungry and have to get food on his own. eventually he could rely on himself for food.

    hi Erica, it is nice to see your video and how you care the baby bird. I recently have rescue baby bird that fall from tree so I took him, I have try to feed him but he do not want to eat, I'm only give water. Sadly,in the fifth day my baby bird died. I fell bad for this baby died this is because he do not get food. Actually, I have do research about the way to prepare the food for baby bird and try it but all failed. I see you feed the baby bird is fantastic, may i know how your prepare your baby bird food?. It's great to have person like you in this world.I'm Dafi from Malaysia

    • @ERICAsamERICA
      @ERICAsamERICA  8 років тому

      +dafi rashid I did research the same as you. I got some recommended food for wild baby birds and blending it in a mixer with water and other veggies/fruits/bugs that the species of bird I had could eat.
      I guess the other thing I might have done was either take him to a vet (if you have an exoctic vet near you and a hundred of dollars), or to a wild rescue facility(if they would have taken him, and if there was one in your area)
      But what I want to tell you is that sometimes you do everything right and things just don't work out. You opened your heart to this bird and it still died. But keep your compassion and keep following your gut to help because in the future it will make a difference in someone's/something's life for the better.

    Unfortunately Alberto never learned to fear predators. Hand raised birds don't learn that important skill. Chances are it become some cat's lunch. People raise these birds and release them never thinking about that important survival skill. People think they did a great deed when they actually set the animal up for it's eventual demise. You might have listened to the SPCA and their advice.
    Also, if wild birds only have 10% survival rate in their own nests, why all the massive flocks of birds?
