Thanks for covering this. This is my second favorite game of all time and it doesn't get enough attention. I'm a WWI history nut and this game captures a great deal of those events in a simple and elegant system. I also love Team vs. Team games and this one does it better than any others I've played.
It's a game for 5 players. And that's it, the team play is an essential part of the enjoyment of this game. No good for solo, as the fog of war is very important as well. Lower player counts compromises the experience, imo. I'd rather play a different game of the series, Quarter Master General: Cold War is an amazing 3 player experience.
QMG is one of those games that actually plays much better with more people. The original QMG was much faster with 6 players than with 2. It's also a hell of a lot of fun.
So, Calo Lee is correct that more is better…but unlike the WWII one, three or even two is still a good game. If you are more on the wargamey side with 2, I recommend Compass’s ‘An Attrition of Souls’.

For me is a masterpiece, with 5 players this is the game that I have most games played, hands down.
QMG is one of my favorite freaking boardgames. I bought it on a whim and was completely surprised. It's soooo good.
Much better than WWII..especially because you really can play pretty well with two, although three (FR/IT and UK/US, RU, and GE and AH/TU) is better.
Thanks for covering older games too.
Did he mention difference between 1914 and other versions?
What about player count? Seems like a hard one to play solo or even 2P

Solo?
No, you have hidden cards. Get Compass’s ‘An Attrition of Souls’ (shorter), or ‘The Lamps are Going Out’ (longer) if you want solo play.
