Cody I hope GMT know you're their greatest asset. I got this on a p500 order this week. I know that your video is now 6 years old but it still provided me with the context enough to know I wanted it! You have really nurtured my love of GMT
So many WW2 grand strategy games out or on the horizon! This, Chruchill, Cataclysm, Unconditional Surrender, The War Room... how does one decide?!? Great video btw
Great review! I will probably buy this. And of course, Chamberlain is vastly underrated as a political leader. His politics gave Britain a moral high ground that helped swing the public opinion in other countries (especially the U.S).
+Karl Stengård Interesting point of view. Certainly, had he moved to go to war over Czechoslovakia he would have been subject to a vote of no confidence in the House of Commons and then someone like Halifax would have become PM, someone willing to come to terms with Hitler.
Remember how I said this was expensive? Well, I got one for a total of 78 dollars which is like 40 dollars less than most. I'm very lucky I found out about this game before the biding ended, and I'm gonna play it for the first time today! Thank you sir!
Excellent review. I love Triumph and Tragedy. The 1st edition is sold out and GMT is running another P500 for the 2nd Edition with a mounted map, better counters, and some other improvement I can't recall.
Here's a trick war gamers have known for a while. Get yourself a sheet of plexi-glass. It helps protect the paper maps and helps keep the creases down so pieces sit properly and aren't tilted or kiltered and fall over. A real annoyance with games that have cardboard chits. The blocks of T&T might be okay on creases, so if anything it helps to protect it.
+Dean Liggett I remember looking into Europe Engulfed back in the day, but it was already out of print by the time it caught my attention- so I cann't speak to that. Triumph & Tragedy is a great game, however.
yeah, I hate paper maps but I'm just used to that with my war games. I bought a sheet of plastic just for my paper map games -- flattens it out and provides a smooth uniform surface. I didn't hear about this game, but it looks interesting. If I didn't already have Unconditional Surrender: Europe, I would pick this up.
+azraelswrd I haven't played Unconditional Surrender: Europe. Maybe I'll have to check that one out at some point. In the meantime, Triumph & Tragedy is scratching my WWII wargame itch big time!
And enjoyable and succinct review of T&T - this will help in my purchase decision. And I loved your Edward Fox imitation. (what movie was that quote from?)
I'm starting to wonder if there's a way to stop, consistently, the West sprint-to-nuclear strategy. Go very aggressively after technology and let the Soviet Union keep the Axis honest militarily and diplomatically. That said, I break the other way and prefer this game by a hair over Churchill, precisely because I'm charmed at how the game allows for strategies that break profoundly from the historical unfolding of WW II.
Well I agree with you that both are really enjoyable. My teenage daughter will even play Churchill, I think because she likes arguing... umm sorry, debating issues.
Triumph and Tragedy is a sphere of influence game, not necessarily a World War II simulation. Axis and Allies is a straight forward though simplistic World War II game.
In the search of a wargame that play 4 people I must have watched at least 4-5 of your videos. I gotta say you produce very high quality content and you deal very well with the camera. Keep up the good work! Any indication of when the 2nd edition of The Lamps are going out comes out? It keeps getting pushed. Its one of the games I have shortlisted (alongside Friedrich on the back of your recommendation, QMG WWI, 2 of the COINs and 878 Vikings).
The Discriminating Gamer one question, would you be able to review the Quartermaster General saga at some point? I have played WW II recently and it was superb! So wondering about the other games -_-

Not GMT but I Kickstarted Larry Harris War Room as a result of your endorse too.. July can't come quick enough
@@GenestealerUK I am happy to help. You'll love War Room. And GMT is a fantastic company that consistently produce top notch games.
@@GenestealerUK Same with me
Wow, both the Churchill review and this one were a pleasure to watch. Next week my gaming group should be able to try both :D
+Calo Lee Candame Thanks! I think you'll really enjoy them both.
Just awesome!
Thanks a lot for great review!
Alexander K Thank You!
Love the video and well done on the Accent sir! I am playing this later today, and your video was the perfect refresher.
Or perhaps this is your English twin? 🤣
Happy to help!
Using a counter clipper to round the corners of your chits really improves their looks. Recommend.

Thank you so very much for an exceptionally thoughtful review. You obviously enjoy the game, and have convinced me to have a go at it.

It was probably very convenient to blame any early issues on Chamberlain?
Like Norway....
Indeed.

+pjpaella Yeah. Pretty excited about that!
Have you played recently, how does it hold up? Will be playing over Thanksgiving.
I actually haven't played it in a while. I have a copy of Conquest & Consequence, the sequel, that I haven't gotten to the table yet.
Great review, I've got to have this game.
It's a fun one.
Fantastic end!
Thank you, sir.

Another great review that may cost me money. It looks like it may be a streamlined version of GMT's Europe Engulfed (2003).

You got your wish, opened my 2nd Edition copy today!
Skylor Edwards That's Awesome! I need to get that board!!!
It's a GORGEOUS board. I was very impressed upon opening my 2nd edition copy.
Pretty good English accent.
+Greg L Sheesh, I'm no longer feeling confident that you aren't from England.
+Greg L Your other videos aren't convincing me that you are genuinely from the USA. I've realised that you are probably a trained Russian spy.
+Greg L Ahhhh! the give-away. It's not "ishews", it's issues. Ie, iss-yous.
+Greg L ...you dastardly Russian spy......and likely assassin. Unless you're an honourable Russian spy, of course.
+Greg L Shhhh, don't tell.
Man, the different accents you have for this video and the other one about Conquest and Consequence is just brilliantly funny 😂😂😂
Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed the review. Which quote are you referring to? (I did this review over two years ago and don't have time watch the whole thing :) )
Sorry - just a bad joke - but I am looking forward to watching more of your reviews.
Fantastic! Thank you, sir!
No mounted map.... what was GMT thinking? This isn’t a $15 game
greginfla I think later editions have the mounted map.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer This map is now available.

When I moved to Texas I kept this one and gave Churchill to a friend. So, I guess my taste evolved.

your obsession with chamberlain is noted sir.

+The Discriminating Gamer then carry on good sir...carry on.
I would do all reviews in the English accent! :D
Maybe I will... (eyes narrow). Maybe I will.
Is this game better than Axis & Allies?
Different. There is more strategy here, for sure. Economics and foreign policy are more important as well.
Triumph and Tragedy is a sphere of influence game, not necessarily a World War II simulation. Axis and Allies is a straight forward though simplistic World War II game.
Why the british accent? :p
Why not?
