Law may have released before Vulgar, but VDOP was written before that release. Much like grunge, it was the way that the music was heading, and those happened to be the bands spearheading it.
Far beyond driven will probably always remain the sonically heaviest album to billboard #1 ever, seems impossible now that such a heavy album could get there
I personally rank Cowboys over Vulgar. It’s what I consider one of the few perfect albums. Probably my third favorite album of all time only behind Master of Puppets and Scenes From a Memory.
I agree. Cowboys is objectively better than Vulgar. But Vulgar has catchier riffs, as the album progresses, and well, that's why they call it "CATCHY" lol. Pleases a lot more people.
It may have a more traditional thrash sound, but personally i think that leads to dimes best guitar work period. Its also so much more fun and doesn't take itself too seriously as the later knuckle dragging tough guy stuff does
Cowboys from Hell is my favorite Pantera album. And Medicine Man is my favorite track. Phil's vocals were the absolute best on it and you heard all the ranges he could do!

Back in 1995 I was living in New Orleans and was only familiar with Cowboys From Hell onward. My pot dealer (after getting me high) said "Have you heard Pantera's early glam stuff?". Very surreal experience.

I'm african american and I love Pantera. I personally didn't care about the outrage, but people need to understand that the man was still reeling from Dimebag's death, substance abuses, the fact that Vinnie never talked to Phil and he passed away so things never got settled (he blamed Phil for Dime's death), the man was in a VERY bad situation that led him to do and say some really stupid shit all those rough years and he owned that. Its close as comparable to Bam Margera having issues dealing with Ryan Dunn's death. He has gotten older and more sober. I seen LOG and Pantera in Syracuse NY last August and it was a blast as my first time seeing them live. So honestly, given that context, I personally did not take offense, the man had demons and I'm glad Phil still around to this day.

Specially in a macho-man environment, where you can't show vulnerability, much less being a famous frontman of a metal band, it was too much for him to handle. Although his lyrics for the songs "Suicide Note PT 1 and 2" are already a cry for help. These individuals may have very destructive behaviours. Towards themselves and others. Even those close to them. Phil, when he was high, also used to mock Dimebag on stage. Very humilliating, in front of the fans. Phil also insulted Metallica for selling out, when Load came out. Very immature, really, from a fellow musician. Which even provoked a funny response from Lars, making reference to Pantera's Glam Days, wearing make up and what not. But I agree, such actions, even if only through words, should have consequences.
"We'll Meet Again" off of Power Metal is one of Dimebag's best moments ever. I've listened to that solo so many times. That song the "Floods" Outro and also "Becoming" off of FBD are all set as alarms for me to wake up at different times. In some ways, I'd view "Power Metal as being "Cowboys from Hell" with the limiter off. Dimebag shreds at full power, the 80s Golden Age is still in full effect so there are a few crazy parts that are based on directly on Thrash and all bets are off on the guitar.

CFH gets my vote for their best album. Dimebag’s guitar work is face-meltingly awesome, especially on the intro to heresy and the solo for cemetery gates. What really puts it above the later ones for me is a palpable sense that the band had fun making it (plus Anselmo’s vocals sound the best on this one). While Pantera’s influence especially on 90’s metal is undeniable, they also changed the metal fashion pretty much overnight in 1990 and all of sudden as a metal fan you could wear a tank top and cargo shorts instead of jeans and a band t-shirt.
A friend of mine bought Projects In The Jungle when it came out. We were in the local record store, and store employees would always spin a few tracks of all the releases they got in. My friend and I were impressed with the guitar playing on it, and my friend bought tons of obscure metal albums anyways, so he bought it. Fast forward to when I was in the military in 1990, and a metal head I was stationed with told me I needed to hear this new band, Pantera - Cowboys From Hell. I was like: "Pantera? They aren't new..." 😊
C tier for power metal is a hard disagree for me, this may not be the iconic pantera sound but it is very solid and dimebag's guitarwork in this is stellar

It was Walk and Vulgar Display that got me into Pantera when I was a teenager. I watched that music video so many times. And the Domination live vid from Moscow gives me chills every time I watch it.
They originally had a vocalist called Donny Hart and a bass player called Tommy D. Bradford. The first three albums was produced by Jerry Abbott also known as The Eld'n. The father of the Abbott brothers. A well known country writer and producer.
Trendkill is my favorite Pantera album, possibly my favorite album of all time, but it's probably a product of it coming out when I was 18. I remember getting my CD from the Warehouse, after I tied an onion to my shoe, which was the style at the time, then I put it in my discman, pressed play, and I think I started drooling. I don't think I felt the same way about pressing play on a new album, having never heard any of the tracks, until Mastodon's Leviathan. And I was just thinking "wow how my taste changed over that long period of time..." 8 years. Those two albums are 8 years apart.
I would have put "I Am The Night" a little higher, but I saw Pantera a few times when they were still slugging it out in the DFW clubs. The very first time I saw them Terrance was still singing for them (played rhythm guitar also). Then Phil joined. They had just released "Power Metal" and were still playing some of the old songs. I guess you had to be there, but some of those older "Glaze" songs translated pretty well live. And Darrel? Wow 🤯😵💫 Even in the "glam" days he was a phenom on guitar. 🤯😵 The last time I saw them live was in a big theater in Dallas and Cowboys was out. They had two great local bands open for them and they put on a fantastic show. It was shortly after that they started bulldozing their path to worldwide fame. It's my opinion only, but I think "I Am The Night" was the best of their first 3 recordings.
Dimebag very much enjoyed the musical stylings of one Mr. Edward Van Halen. He cited Eddie as one of his primary influences. Which is why Eddie Vam Halen arrived at Dime's funeral with that yellow and black Van Halen II guitar and placed it in Darrell's casket. It remains buried with him today. Eddie Van Halen....class act all the way,that one was.
Long Time Pantera Fan and I must say Steel is so damn underrated...I personally feel like it´s musically the most grown up album they made. It´s 200% Pantera. It is one of those Albums that grow on you the more often you listen to it. Perfection. But it´s not my favorite Album because I can´t pick just one. Really nice Video Bradley :D
From trendkill, suicide note part 2, and living through me, are probably the two heaviest songs ever written in my opinion, just pure aggressive power, so good.
I Am the Night is one of my personal favourites. Maybe I can enjoy it more because english isn't my first langage, which implies that I don't feel as much cringe from bad lyrics-although I perfectly understand them, and it's quite enjoyable from my point of view. I never miss an opportunity to blast it during parties, whenever someone asks me to put music on their speaker (no one understands any word that is sung, but it would certainly be fun if they did).
Already have, Most Real Fans have listened to them. Metal magic wasn't Great But the next 3 were Really Good. say what you want But The Drums & Guitar on those first Album were Awesome. I also did a video titled Pantera the first 4 Albums.
The Great Southern trendkill is by far their best album. I prefer the more serious subject matter over the kinda goofy and anecdotal stuff they usually do, and I just feel like it's more dynamic and there's a little more experimentation with it. I just love how ugly and unsettling it is because it's about ugly and unsettling things.

My fav songs are from the two albums you said you didn't care for much: Far beyond Driven and Great Southern. Two best albums IMO. Vulgar Display is good too but I'd listen to the mumbling track "Good friends and a Bottle of pills" 20 times in a row before I listen to Walk again. I was also in a Pantera cover band so that might be why. Everyone always wanted us to play Walk and we got really sick of that song. It's also just so simple and repetitive. I will never willingly listen to that tune again. The Good friends and Pills song really didn't bother me like it did everyone else. I was pretty young when I heard it for the first time so I just accepted it as part of the albums sound. Now everyone has a video making fun of that tune. The music is actually kinda of cool on that tune.

Fun fact: Dime sang those specific lyrics (5:30) for live performances of Metallica's Seek & Destroy you can vaguely hear that in a live performance you can easily find on here from 1984 which predicted the song Dime later sang 4 years later, they were heavily influenced by Metallica so you can sort of hear where their sound comes from in Power Metal up to the actual albums.

King's X were credited to inspire Pantera's sound, and their first album "Out of the silent planet" made Rex and Dimebag instant fans. Gretchen Goes To Nebraska and Dogman are my favorite albums of theirs.

I'm african american and I love Pantera. I personally didn't care about the outrage, but people need to understand that the man was still reeling from Dimebag's death, substance abuses, the fact that Vinnie never talked to Phil and he passed away so things never got settled (he blamed Phil for Dime's death), the man was in a VERY bad situation that led him to do and say some really stupid shit all those rough years and he owned that. Its close as comparable to Bam Margera having issues dealing with Ryan Dunn's death. He has gotten older and more sober. I seen LOG and Pantera in Syracuse NY last August and it was a blast as my first time seeing them live. So honestly, given that context, I personally did not take offense, the man had demons and I'm glad Phil still around to this day.

Specially in a macho-man environment, where you can't show vulnerability, much less being a famous frontman of a metal band, it was too much for him to handle. Although his lyrics for the songs "Suicide Note PT 1 and 2" are already a cry for help. These individuals may have very destructive behaviours. Towards themselves and others. Even those close to them. Phil, when he was high, also used to mock Dimebag on stage. Very humilliating, in front of the fans. Phil also insulted Metallica for selling out, when Load came out. Very immature, really, from a fellow musician. Which even provoked a funny response from Lars, making reference to Pantera's Glam Days, wearing make up and what not. But I agree, such actions, even if only through words, should have consequences.

"We'll Meet Again" off of Power Metal is one of Dimebag's best moments ever. I've listened to that solo so many times. That song the "Floods" Outro and also "Becoming" off of FBD are all set as alarms for me to wake up at different times. In some ways, I'd view "Power Metal as being "Cowboys from Hell" with the limiter off. Dimebag shreds at full power, the 80s Golden Age is still in full effect so there are a few crazy parts that are based on directly on Thrash and all bets are off on the guitar.

CFH gets my vote for their best album. Dimebag’s guitar work is face-meltingly awesome, especially on the intro to heresy and the solo for cemetery gates. What really puts it above the later ones for me is a palpable sense that the band had fun making it (plus Anselmo’s vocals sound the best on this one). By the way, your channel helped push me towards getting my first electric guitar in March, so thanks!
While Pantera’s influence especially on 90’s metal is undeniable, they also changed the metal fashion pretty much overnight in 1990 and all of sudden as a metal fan you could wear a tank top and cargo shorts instead of jeans and a band t-shirt.

A friend of mine bought Projects In The Jungle when it came out. We were in the local record store, and store employees would always spin a few tracks of all the releases they got in. My friend and I were impressed with the guitar playing on it, and my friend bought tons of obscure metal albums anyways, so he bought it.
Fast forward to when I was in the military in 1990, and a metal head I was stationed with told me I needed to hear this new band, Pantera - Cowboys From Hell. I was like: "Pantera? They aren't new..." 😊
Great Southern Trendkill is hands down my favourite Pantera album. It’s harder to unlock but it’s worth the effort

It was Walk and Vulgar Display that got me into Pantera when I was a teenager. I watched that music video so many times. And the Domination live vid from Moscow gives me chills every time I watch it.
They originally had a vocalist called Donny Hart and a bass player called Tommy D. Bradford. The first three albums was produced by Jerry Abbott also known as The Eld'n. The father of the Abbott brothers. A well known country writer and producer.

Trendkill is my favorite Pantera album, possibly my favorite album of all time, but it's probably a product of it coming out when I was 18. I remember getting my CD from the Warehouse, after I tied an onion to my shoe, which was the style at the time, then I put it in my discman, pressed play, and I think I started drooling. I don't think I felt the same way about pressing play on a new album, having never heard any of the tracks, until Mastodon's Leviathan. And I was just thinking "wow how my taste changed over that long period of time..." 8 years. Those two albums are 8 years apart.

I would have put "I Am The Night" a little higher, but I saw Pantera a few times when they were still slugging it out in the DFW clubs.
The very first time I saw them Terrance was still singing for them (played rhythm guitar also). Then Phil joined. They had just released "Power Metal" and were still playing some of the old songs. I guess you had to be there, but some of those older "Glaze" songs translated pretty well live.
And Darrel? Wow 🤯😵💫 Even in the "glam" days he was a phenom on guitar. 🤯😵
The last time I saw them live was in a big theater in Dallas and Cowboys was out. They had two great local bands open for them and they put on a fantastic show. It was shortly after that they started bulldozing their path to worldwide fame.
It's my opinion only, but I think "I Am The Night" was the best of their first 3 recordings.
Dimebag very much enjoyed the musical stylings of one Mr. Edward Van Halen. He cited Eddie as one of his primary influences. Which is why Eddie Vam Halen arrived at Dime's funeral with that yellow and black Van Halen II guitar and placed it in Darrell's casket. It remains buried with him today.

I Am the Night is one of my personal favourites. Maybe I can enjoy it more because english isn't my first langage, which implies that I don't feel as much cringe from bad lyrics-although I perfectly understand them, and it's quite enjoyable from my point of view. I never miss an opportunity to blast it during parties, whenever someone asks me to put music on their speaker (no one understands any word that is sung, but it would certainly be fun if they did).

The Great Southern trendkill is by far their best album. I prefer the more serious subject matter over the kinda goofy and anecdotal stuff they usually do, and I just feel like it's more dynamic and there's a little more experimentation with it. I just love how ugly and unsettling it is because it's about ugly and unsettling things.

My fav songs are from the two albums you said you didn't care for much: Far beyond Driven and Great Southern. Two best albums IMO. Vulgar Display is good too but I'd listen to the mumbling track "Good friends and a Bottle of pills" 20 times in a row before I listen to Walk again. I was also in a Pantera cover band so that might be why. Everyone always wanted us to play Walk and we got really sick of that song. It's also just so simple and repetitive. I will never willingly listen to that tune again. The Good friends and Pills song really didn't bother me like it did everyone else. I was pretty young when I heard it for the first time so I just accepted it as part of the albums sound. Now everyone has a video making fun of that tune. The music is actually kinda of cool on that tune.

Baked beans are a dish traditionally containing white common beans that are parboiled and then, in the US, baked in sauce at low temperature for a lengthy period.[1] Canned baked beans are not baked, but are cooked through a steam process.[2]

Canned baked beans are used as a convenience food; most are made from haricot beans in sauce. They may be eaten hot or cold, and straight from the can, as they are fully cooked.[7] H. J. Heinz began producing canned baked beans in 1886. In the early 20th century, canned baked beans gained international popularity, particularly in the United Kingdom, where they have become a common part of an English full breakfast.
Origins and history in the Americas

According to chef and food historian Walter Staib of Philadelphia's City Tavern, baked beans had their roots as a Native peoples dish in the Americas long before the dish became known to Western culture.[8] In the northeast of America various Native American peoples, including the Iroquois, the Narragansett and the Penobscot,[9] mixed beans, maple sugar, and bear fat in earthenware pots which they placed in pits called "bean holes" which were lined in hot rocks to cook slowly over a long period of time.[8][10]
British colonists in New England were the first westerners to adopt the dish from the Native peoples, and were quick to embrace it largely because the dish was reminiscent of pease pudding and because the dish used ingredients native to the New World.[8][11] They substituted molasses or sugar for the maple syrup, bacon or ham for the bear fat, and simmered their beans for hours in pots over the fire instead of underground.[8] Each colony in America had its own regional variations of the dish, with navy or white pea beans used in Massachusetts, Jacob's Cattle and soldier beans used in Maine, and yellow-eyed beans in Vermont.[3] This variation likely resulted from the colonists receiving the dish from different Native peoples who used different native beans.[3]
While some historians have theorized that baked beans had originated from the cassoulet or bean stew tradition in Southern France, this is unlikely as the beans used to make baked beans are all native to North America and were introduced to Europe around 1528.[12] However, it is likely that English colonists used their knowledge of cassoulet cooking to modify the cooking technique of the beans from the traditional Native American version, by soaking the bean overnight and simmering the beans over a fire before baking it in earthen pots in order to decrease the cooking time.[13]
A dish which was a clear precursor to baked beans, entitled "beans and bacon", was known in medieval England.[14] The addition of onion and mustard to some baked beans recipes published in New England in the 19th century was likely based on traditional cassoulet recipes from Staffordshire, England, which utilized mustard, beans, and leeks.[13] These ingredients are still often added to baked beans today.[13] Nineteenth-century cookbooks published in New England, spread to other portions of the United States and Canada, which familiarized other people with the dish.[13]
While many recipes today are stewed, traditionally dried beans were soaked overnight, simmered until tender (parboiled), and then slow-baked in a ceramic or cast-iron beanpot.[3] Originally baked beans were sweetened with maple syrup by Native Americans, a tradition some recipes still follow, but some English colonists modified the sweetening agent to brown sugar beginning in the 17th century.[14] In the 18th century the convention of using American made molasses as a sweetening agent became increasingly popular in order to avoid British taxes on sugar.[14] The molasses style of baked beans has become closely associated with the city of Boston and is often referred to as Boston baked beans.[15]
Today in the New England region, baked beans are flavored either with maple syrup (Northern New England), or with molasses (Boston), and are traditionally cooked with salt pork in a beanpot in a brick oven for six to eight hours.[15] In the absence of a brick oven, the beans were cooked in a beanpot nestled in a bed of embers placed near the outer edges of a hearth, about a foot away from the fire. Today, baked beans can be made in a slow cooker or in a modern oven using a traditional beanpot, Dutch oven, or casserole dish.[13] Regardless of cooking method, the results of the dish, commonly described as having a savory-sweet flavor and a brownish- or reddish-tinted white bean, are the same.[8]
A tradition in Maine of "bean hole" cooking may have originated with the native Penobscot people and was later practiced in logging camps. A fire would be made in a stone-lined pit and allowed to burn down to hot coals, and then a pot with 11[16] pounds of seasoned beans would be placed in the ashes, covered over with dirt, and left to cook overnight or longer. These beans were a staple of Maine's logging camps, served at every meal.[17][18]

While baked beans was initially a New England region cuisine, the dish has become a popular item throughout the United States; and is now a staple item served most frequently along various types of barbecue and at picnics.[19] This is due in part to the ease of handling, as they can be served hot or cold, directly from the can, making them handy for outdoor eating. The tomato-based sweet sauce also complements many types of barbecue. The already-cooked beans may also be baked in a casserole dish topped with slices of raw bacon, which is baked until the bacon is cooked. Additional seasonings are sometimes used, such as additional brown sugar or mustard to make the sauce more tangy.[7]
Canned beans
Canned beans, often containing pork, were among the first convenience foods, and were exported and popularised by U.S. companies internationally in the early 20th century.[20] The American Food and Drug Administration stated in 1996: "It has for years been recognized by consumers generally that the designation 'beans with pork,' or 'pork and beans' is the common or usual name for an article of commerce that contains very little pork." The included pork is typically a piece of salt pork that adds fat to the dish.[21]
The first mass-produced commercial canning of baked beans in the United States began in 1895 by the Pennsylvania-based H. J. Heinz Company.[5] Heinz was also the first company to sell baked beans outside of the United States, beginning with sales limited solely to Fortnum & Mason in 1886, when the item was considered a luxury.[22] They began selling baked beans throughout the UK in 1901, and baked beans became a standard part of the English full breakfast soon after.[5] Heinz removed pork from the product during the Second World War rationing.[23]

Originally, Heinz Baked Beans were prepared in the traditional United States manner for sales in Ireland and Great Britain. Over time, the recipe was altered to a less sweet tomato sauce without maple syrup, molasses, or brown sugar to appeal to the tastes of the United Kingdom.[20] This is the version of baked beans most commonly eaten outside of the United States. Baked beans are commonly eaten on toast ("beans on toast") or as part of a full breakfast.[20] Heinz Baked Beans remains the best-selling brand in the UK.[24] The Baked Bean Museum of Excellence in Port Talbot, Wales, is dedicated to baked beans.[25]
In 2002, the British Dietetic Association allowed manufacturers of canned baked beans to advertise the product as contributing to the recommended daily consumption of five to six vegetables per person. This concession was criticised by heart specialists, who pointed to the high levels of sugar and salt in the product. However, it has been proven that consumption of baked beans does indeed lower total cholesterol levels and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, even in normo-cholesterolaemic individuals.[26][27] Some manufacturers produce a "healthy" version of the product with reduced levels of sugar and salt.[28]

Fun fact: Dime sang those specific lyrics (5:30) for live performances of Metallica's Seek & Destroy you can vaguely hear that in a live performance you can easily find on here from 1984 which predicted the song Dime later sang 4 years later, they were heavily influenced by Metallica so you can sort of hear where their sound comes from in Power Metal up to the actual albums.
