- This full-production demo showcases how these two pedals sound together within a studio recording using multiple settings and guitars along with live bass and drums.
The Electro-Harmonix Small Stone is a sweet and simple analog phase shifter while the EHX Soul Food is their recent creation of a Klon Centaur type circuit overdrive.
Instruments used:
1985 Fender Telecaster '69 Thinline Reissue
2005 Fender Stratocaster Deluxe V-Neck
1997 Fender P-Bass Special
1974 Fender Princeton Reverb w/ additional 1x12 Celestion Vintage 30
Tama Rockstar DX circa 1991
Microphones used were a Shure SM57 and Sennheiser e609.
Recorded on Pro Tools 11 with Digi 003 Rack interface. No other effects were used except for some delay in the lead guitar part and compression, both in post-production to enhance the overall recording.

"Do Something" ©1999 Macy Gray
I've spend many years in radio business and THIS is a HIT. Now if it can just be released and promoted!!!!!!!!
Thank you. It was kind of a hit for Macy Gray back in the late 90's. Such a great tune! I couldn't resist doing it here.
Excellent my friend....David I'm a old EHX man from back in the 70's...they always to this day been my mostly go to pedal...when I'm shopping for a EHX pedal, I always check you out first to get a home base sound and feel....
Thank you.
That’s awesome, thank you!
slinky groove really emphasizes this rad pairing; outside of the box mood really sets up the riffing depths of EHX. wowsers, salute!
Thank you for the awesome feedback, Milan!
David: Jamie was kind enough to give a link and I got to hear the original... Nice - I'm not much into soft rap - but she has a nice song. HOWEVER, YOURS was considerably more defined and pointed. The other people positively commenting on the piece certainly should give you pleasure. The whole demo was so simple, yet so outstanding... AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES A HIT... I've listened at least a dozen times now and your STYLE is fantastic. Wish I could play a tenth as well as you, LOL!!!! Great luck in the future!!!! I'm signing up for your Electro-Harmonics demos, right NOW!!!!
0:21 Bam! Tone Blast. Cool riff man
Jarrod Waddell Thank you!
awesome playing, so much passion
I wish this demo would never end
Thank you! Record it on the EHX looper and it will never end!
David, awesome work!
Thank you very much!
What a good demo!
Thank you!
I have the soul food which for me its sweet and was reasonably priced But i dont use alot of pedals . Love the sustain at the end, Great playing David thanks for sharing!!
Great playing
Thank you!
Awesome work, man! I've got to get me a Soul Food of my own! I've got the GAS bad for that one! :D
Thanks brother!
sick pickguard..
That early Made in Japan pickguard is the sickest swirly pearl I've ever seen.
David which one do you like the bad stone or this one?
I like them both... I think the Small Stone is more of a traditional “phase 90” type phaser whereas the Bad Stone has a bit more to offer with the very cool and useful manual mode.
@@DavidCurtisGuitar Thank you, you are an excellent musician. I have listened to your records on bandcamp and they are very good. Cheers
hod do you think the soul food would sound with humbuckers?
+David Cifuentes It sounds great! Check out my first video I did with the Soul Food: ua-cam.com/video/HPAP5Npmex4/v-deo.html --- I used two humbucker guitars in that one.
Sounds great but my Vox Tonelab does the same in one box.
Similar sounds maybe... these two EHX are analog pedals, while the Tonelab is digital modeling.
Macy Gray!
Yeah! My favorite tune from her... I'd been wanting to do some sort of cover of it for a long time and this just seemed to feel right.
very cool arrangement..always great videos from you man!peace.J
David Curtis "Hypnotized" by Bob Welch/Fleetwood Mac is right in there, too. Well done...
+David Curtis Sounds killer. Which Macy Gray song is it?
+David Curtis Sorry, I see it at the end of the video
