  • The Mel 9 by Electro-Harmonix is a tape replay machine emulating the classic Mellotron sounds of the sixties. For complete info, please visit ehx.com
    This full-production demonstration showcases how this pedal sounds within the context of a studio recording using several settings of the pedal with multiple guitars, bass and live drums. The EHX Soul Food overdrive was also used in the making of this demo. No other effects were used except for some slight delay and compression in post-production to enhance the overall recording.
    Gear used:
    1985 Fender Telecaster Thinline '69 reissue
    2005 Fender Stratocaster Deluxe V-neck
    1993 Gibson SG Standard
    1984 Kramer Pacer Deluxe Custom
    1997 Fender P-Bass Special
    1974 Fender Princeton Reverb amp
    Tama Rockstar DX w/ Sabian and Zildjian cymbals
    Recorded on Pro Tools 11 with Digi 003 Rack interface using various microphones and preamps.

    Another thing I love about the way David plays the guitar, he doesn't just throw billions of riffs in your face that sound like white noise, ha can play one note and let it sing with all the tone it can create and with his touch of velvet vibrato ! A superb player. My all time fave demo guitar player on you tube. He really shows you what the pedal can do instead of trying to prove what a hot guitar player he may be, like so many other video demos!
    DAVID, YOU ROCK, I LOVE THE TONE YOU CREATE WITH EVERY PEDAL!

    The Soul Food sounds really good with that singe HB Strat. Now I might have to get a Soul Food.
    I actually bought an OD Glove instead of a Soul Food, for use with the clean channel on my 1994 Solid State Princeton 65, and the clean channel on my solid state Laney Pro-Linebacker 100 Reverb head. It really shines with the Princeton, and since this demo is with the Soul Food being played through a Princeton (I know, this one is tube), I figure for the price, why not?
    I obviously have no use for any OD/Distortion pedals with my Orange TH30 head. Although, maybe the Soul Food on the clean channel might do something for me? So many pedals, so little time.

    • @DavidCurtisGuitar

    Cool demo! Bought this pedal and looking forward to receiving soon. Where would you recommend placing it on a pedal board? In the effects loop or in the front of the amp?

    • @DavidCurtisGuitar
      @DavidCurtisGuitar  7 років тому +2

      Thanks! I used this pedal just like any other pedal by plugging my guitar straight into it and then into the front of the amp. You could always experiment by plugging it into the fx loop. It may sound even better that way!

      @@DavidCurtisGuitar does it have a way to output the other instrument to a pa/mixer so I can use other effects/distortion on just the dry guitar tone?

    • @DavidCurtisGuitar
      @DavidCurtisGuitar  5 років тому

      Nick Whitman yes, it has a dry output so you could run your clean tone into whatever other effect you’d like.

      Reading this question again three months later, I realized you might have been asking about drum loops or the like... All the backing tracks are recorded old school with live bass and drums, thanks to the miracle of a click track and multi-track recording.

    Did this pedal ever "stop" working on you while playing? I tried a demo at the local music store, about 20 minutes in, I could hear the guitar signal more than the effect itself. I think I heard a sentiment about this somewhere on here.
    Oh by the way, great demo and playing!

    Is it just my Mel 9 or do they all wildly fluctuate in volume on
    separate notes. This pedal is extremely frustrating to record with? As
    far as I am concerned this is only a beta version that should not have
    been released to the public.

    • @DavidCurtisGuitar

      Neil Aspinall I didn’t notice any obvious volume fluctuations when I recorded this demo. That was a while ago though... I may have to go back and check it out.
