- The Mel 9 by Electro-Harmonix is a tape replay machine emulating the classic Mellotron sounds of the sixties. For complete info, please visit ehx.com
This full-production demonstration showcases how this pedal sounds within the context of a studio recording using several settings of the pedal with multiple guitars, bass and live drums. The EHX Soul Food overdrive was also used in the making of this demo. No other effects were used except for some slight delay and compression in post-production to enhance the overall recording.

Holy shit why doesnt electro harmonix pay you? This is the best demo out there by far! Ace playing and amazing music! Thanks for this! I keep rewatching just for the song!
Thank you so much!
Another thing I love about the way David plays the guitar, he doesn't just throw billions of riffs in your face that sound like white noise, ha can play one note and let it sing with all the tone it can create and with his touch of velvet vibrato ! A superb player. My all time fave demo guitar player on you tube. He really shows you what the pedal can do instead of trying to prove what a hot guitar player he may be, like so many other video demos!
DAVID, YOU ROCK, I LOVE THE TONE YOU CREATE WITH EVERY PEDAL!
Wow, thank you so much!
Cool guitar playing man, not a wasted note.
Thank you!
This deserves so many more views. Beautiful playing.
When i watch your demos i understand why pedals have these weird names like "Soul Food".
Thank you!
Thank you!
Yep, or Big Muff 😂😉
Buddy...gotta admit...iv watched all the demos of these pedals...ur the only one that knows how to bloody kill it on that thing..brilliant production of sound man ur unreal
True musician at its finest buddy
Kris Nolan you’re too cool. Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!
This is so creative and inspiring thank you! I need this and the EHX Canyon pedal in my life!
Hell Yeah.... I love my Mel-9
I’m so freakin glad you made this video to show people how cool the Mel-9 is...🎶🎵❤️🙏
Super demo. I bought a Mel9 today because of it,
EHX and I both thank you very much!
W Zen , I did too, even bought the Lester G pedal too, if you haven't seen his demo for that yet, your missing a lot! He's created a great fking jam with that pedal, with so much rocking emotion, his instruments and pedals sing because of David! They should make David a spokesman!!
David, you really show us what we can get out of these pedals!
Your playing is always so tasteful. ❤️🤘🏼
Thanks! You rock.
very nice vid on the pedal and the layering of all you did nice job pete
Outstanding sounds, as always! Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Wow. Amazing playing! Effects sound great.
Thank you very much!
Lots of quality notes there.. lovely piece:)
Very inspired, David! With this I've got to take a YT break and play. Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Yes, shut YT off and go play!
Cool demo, nice chops . . making that Princeton sound great.
Just bought Mel 9 on eBay thanks for the inspiration mate!
Great stuff you probably convinced me to get one. A previous comment was quite right. EH should pay you. Very smart guitar work too. Thank you
I pick mine up tomorrow
Awesome calming piece ☮🕊🎸🎶
Fantastic music brother.
Sounds amazing

Incredible musicianship.

Thank you very much!
Damn that sounds good!
Thank you!
Beautiful!
Thanks!
Great great playing.
Damn! That was good.
I’ve been worried about how fast you can play on it, can It knock out some decent speeds or does it get too rough?
Wonderful!
Thanks!
Excelente! Awesome...
Thank you!
Very cool!!
Nice work.
Thanks!
wonder what it would sound like if the amp was way overdriven with the mel9
Nice one!
So good
Thanks!
It seems that cooking up some additive aspects on the sounds might help...they sound kind of dry on their own
Tasty😎👍
How much is it?
nice demo.. hope you get more views
!!
Thanks! They will come in due time... there are a lot of videos out there of this pedal right now.
David, that was awesome! It's a cool fucking pedal, too! (Happy 4th, by the way!) :)
Thank you, Shawn! Happy fireworks day!
i stopped listening to the pedal, your music is so good!
Thank you very much!
The Soul Food sounds really good with that singe HB Strat. Now I might have to get a Soul Food.
I actually bought an OD Glove instead of a Soul Food, for use with the clean channel on my 1994 Solid State Princeton 65, and the clean channel on my solid state Laney Pro-Linebacker 100 Reverb head. It really shines with the Princeton, and since this demo is with the Soul Food being played through a Princeton (I know, this one is tube), I figure for the price, why not?
I obviously have no use for any OD/Distortion pedals with my Orange TH30 head. Although, maybe the Soul Food on the clean channel might do something for me? So many pedals, so little time.
Yes, the Soul Food offers a big bang for the buck!
I ❤️ your shirt!
This cute chick made it for me!
A great performance piece like this tells and sells so much more than other's yakking and lame jokes. Nice one, gotta get one of these gadgets!
John Cougar thank you!
Cool demo! Bought this pedal and looking forward to receiving soon. Where would you recommend placing it on a pedal board? In the effects loop or in the front of the amp?
Thanks! I used this pedal just like any other pedal by plugging my guitar straight into it and then into the front of the amp. You could always experiment by plugging it into the fx loop. It may sound even better that way!
@@DavidCurtisGuitar does it have a way to output the other instrument to a pa/mixer so I can use other effects/distortion on just the dry guitar tone?
Nick Whitman yes, it has a dry output so you could run your clean tone into whatever other effect you’d like.
Hey David I always enjoy your demos. Can I ask what programs (if any) you use to record/make your backing tracks?
Thanks! I've been using Pro Tools for many years now. Currently running Pro Tools 11 with a Digi 003 Rack interface.
Cool. Thanks.
Reading this question again three months later, I realized you might have been asking about drum loops or the like... All the backing tracks are recorded old school with live bass and drums, thanks to the miracle of a click track and multi-track recording.
Oh right. Cool. Thanks for thr reply.
Fuck yeah you sound insane
Fuck yeah I am.
Did this pedal ever "stop" working on you while playing? I tried a demo at the local music store, about 20 minutes in, I could hear the guitar signal more than the effect itself. I think I heard a sentiment about this somewhere on here.
Oh by the way, great demo and playing!
John Hernandez thank you! To answer your question, no, I never had any issues with this pedal not working.
Did you use a looper or is it built in?
ciaran fay No looper was used. I recorded all the parts on Pro Tools, one track at a time.
I'm new to your videos.....had to subscribe.....you get the sounds I'm after...best reviews..are you in a band.
Michael thank you! I’ve been in many bands over the years but now I’m a one-man-band called Deep Sea Soliloquy.
@@DavidCurtisGuitar thanks.....
This is how you demo a pedal yes
Is it just my Mel 9 or do they all wildly fluctuate in volume on
separate notes. This pedal is extremely frustrating to record with? As
far as I am concerned this is only a beta version that should not have
been released to the public.
Neil Aspinall I didn’t notice any obvious volume fluctuations when I recorded this demo. That was a while ago though... I may have to go back and check it out.
Honestly, the first song sounds like a cool rendition of AC/DC's song Big Balls.
...and that's how it's done!
Thank you!
Wooooow🤗🤗🤗🤗
David Gilmour: "I want five of them overnighted ASAP!"
Jimi: "If I could have seen this future, I would have tried harder to stay alive!"
haha!
I feel Dave Gilmour in your style.
Roland Boss yes, he was one of many influences.
この曲いいなw
I Talk To The Wind? haha
Does it talk back?
The wind does not hear
Frusciante tone!!!!
Bro, stop making "gear demos", and put these sounds in an album already!!!
Thank you! I have put out many of these short instrumentals here: deepseasoliloquy.bandcamp.com/
