Jesus I pray that one day I can have a pint with Matt and talk about you! 🙏
@homosexualeffeminatebiomale3go home
Hope we can see this
I’d livestream that
Love your channel dude
I will pray for you
Say what you want about Jordan Peterson. But his mythological view point on the Bible allowed me to get closer to the gospels, and now I’m a full believer. So, there is that.
Of all my friends, teachers and priests, no one was more integral to my faith development at Franciscan than Dr. Bergsma.
How so? I've been listening to his lectures for years in YT and im just amazed how he makes other people love leviticus.😅
@@sarasofiacastro6750at least it works for some people Leviticus is very difficult to make interesting 😂
(((berg)))sma
God sent a meteor.

I haven't often commented but I have to say that these past two videos with Dr. Bergsma have been some of my favorite shows ALL TIME for Pints with Aquinas. Would love for Matt to have him back as soon as possible! I feel like my wife and I have learned so much from this.
As a protestant who is feeling led to RC, I have absolutely loved these episodes with Dr. Bergsma. Please have him on whenever he can! I LOVE hearing about biblical archeology here on this channel too.
I hope you come home soon, what a joy it would be to receive and welcome you. Trust Him, and His Spirit to lead you to all Truth. Will pray for you 🙏🏼
Dr Bergsma is one of the most brilliant and engaging speakers today. My faith has been deepened and my mind enriched from listening to him.
I'm convinced that great minds like Dr Bergsma build up the Church by their faith and witness. Please have him back to discuss the importance of recognizing Moses as a historical figure.
May God bless him and his family.
Faith comes not from mind AND The mind. ❤
I absolutely love Dr. Bergsma. His teaching is so clear and his style so engaging. There is no excuse for being ignorant of the faith in this day with teachers like him and platforms like Matt's.
@@weaponofchoice-tc7qs indeed, the narrow path is.. narrow
Kred792 I am going on The Narrow Path Friends 👋🙏
so true. i love him. i discovered him on bible timeline show. i have been binging on his videos since. what a goldmine for the catholic faith. ❤
31:53 'try doing that with a scroll..' 😂 I love when Bergsma sprinkles in some subtle sass while making a good point
This is the movie that Mel Gibson should make... The whole book of Acts showing the founding of the Catholic Church. If it was done well and precise it would convert so many protestants because most don't know history. They fundamentally don't know that the early Church was the Catholic Church.
Maybe among protestants who've... never read a book or something, but any protestant who's even remotely interested in theology or history obviously knows that lol
@@mitchellm2208I mean many people (even some Catholics) don’t realize that the early church was Catholic - maybe lots of people who really read into it might come to that conclusion, but even Dr. Bergsma talks about how he used to think the early church was Calvinist - so as long as it’s done well it at the very least couldn’t hurt :) and what a cool topic for a movie!
The Protestants and orthodox would mock you for such a statement. No pope in early church that has ultimate authority as vicar.
@@Bigchickens bro three popes are in the bible Peter, Linus, and Clement. There's even a Church Council. Heck Isaiah 22 prefigures Mathew 16 line for line. Not only are there Popes in the new testament the old testament typologically prophecies about it.
@@oswaldomaldonado1051interesting, I am not catholic but considering it. Could you, if it isn't too much of a problem, give me reading material to investigate this further?
Stunned by Scripture: Why bible made me catholic by Dr John Bergsma was a great read
that's funny because so much of catholic orthodoxy has absolutely no base in scripture.
@@thejamnasium6447 care to point out which ones?
@@thejamnasium6447what is your evidence for that? I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.
@@thejamnasium6447 Did you get a lot out of this video? You appear a bit preoccupied with your bias against Catholicism. Maybe you could put that on the shelf for an hour and just listen to what is being said here?
I can honestly say I think these Dr Bergsma videos are the peak PWA
Next to the Shroud one he did recently
Bergsma and Peter Kreeft are my favorite guests.
Don't let Dr. John's brilliance distract you from how great the questions from Matt were in this show.
Yes dude!! Matt really made objections strong and I love him for that having dealt with objections against faith since I was in school it was great to hear him bring those up!
I think it's perfectly acceptable to give thanks for both in equal measure
@@kred792 Dr. John is my favorite. I don't watch all of Matt's shows but he did a great job on this one.
@@danvankouwenberg7234 same. Awesome stuff
I bought a paper back Bible and covered it myself with soft leather, it's about a decade old and so far so good!
Dr. John Bergsma is the best!!!
Yes he is.
@@peaceandjoy2568Agreed Friends I do enjoy listening to His Insight in Scriptures and Biblical Relevance in Modern Day.👋🙏
Hey, I saw this guy at St. John Cantius last week. I loved his presentations! As a current Presbyterian, a lot of his points really resonated with my personal experience
The door is always open, brother. God bless.
Dr Bergsma grew up Dutch Reformed so he probably speaks Catholic with a Reformed accent.
@@mikelopez8564 Exactly. I really only started considering Catholicism back in May this year and very quickly became skeptical of, and later opposed to, Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide. Dr. Bergsma went down the same path I'm currently on and does a great job articulating all the inner conflict
Praying that you also have the Grace to join us in taking communion.
Come Home! 😇
I believe Ron Wyatt located the Red Sea crossing - the natural path from Egypt to the Red Sea, the raised shelf that spans from one side to the other at an ADA Compliant incline. Legally prohibited from removing/disturbing the environment, the best he got was photos of coral shaped as chariot axels & spoked wheels... And so much more.
I wish this was 5 hours long
Wow wow thanks for this! Italian here listening to this while on my pilgrimage in Medjugore. God bless you
What an amazing discussion. This discussion has moved me so much. There is so much here. How can I ever thank you both?
just pray for them, I guess is the best way to thank these people we will probably never meet
Greetings Friend 👋🙏
If you could, I don’t know how busy he is but having Francis Chan on this podcast would absolutely blow me away. With his current venture of unity but not at the cost of truth. It would be amazing to hear you go back and forth.
Dude that would be so lit!!!! Especially having heard him discuss the Eucharist. It would be a crazy discussion.
@@carmeister_ everyone Francis has been talking too since he really got into home churches has been enriching. Like something deeper awoke in him. 🙏🙏🙏
That would be absolutely amazing
I'm from NZL 🇳🇿👍❤️ I love my Catholic Faith and I need to do more! I learn a lot by watching a lot of your podcast! Thank you Matt! 🇳🇿🇨🇰🙏📿🌹❤️🇳🇿🇺🇸🙏 God bless America.
Dr. Bergsma is an amazing teacher.
I had a very similar story of feeling as though I had been lied to and lead away from church history my whole life. I dove into everything I could for months and months and now I am happily at home within Orthodoxy! ❤
24 minutes in, more with him. He is a great guest to learn from. Full enthusiasm for the gospel and its history
I frequently say to myself, "Wow, this is the best Pints with Aquinas episode I've heard yet!" Aaaand then it's not too long before another one comes out and I say it again. This is one of those times! Fantastic conversation and extremely informative. I'll definitely look at some parts of scripture differently now, especially Exodus. Fascinating stuff! You must have Dr. Bergsma back on again sometime.
I can relate here when I listen to Pints with Aquinas and “this is the best episode!” 😂
I really hope Matt will invite Dr Bergsma back for another and longer discussion.
I learn so much from Dr. John - it’s so relatable the way he teaches too - thank u for having him on your show -
I have been on a Bergsma/Pitre diet since last July :)😍😍
So has my husband 😂 and I started that diet a couple months back! So enriching!
Same, with a little Hahn thrown in for good measure 😅❤
@@heidigabalski6335 yes !! I’ve lost count how many Scott Hahn books we own now 😅😬
Can’t wait to dig in! I’m buying the book they did. Make sure you guys dig in to Jimmy Akin also.
im in this club! 🙌🏻
I am praying one day Dr. Brant Pitre would sit and have a pint with you, Mr. Matt Frad!
When I began watching this video, I was planning to split my viewing into several parts because of its length, but Dr. Bergsma is so fascinating that I watched it in a single sitting and was both surprised and disappointed that it ended so quickly. Thank you, and God bless you both!
It's so amazing how this video was uploaded right before I take Dr. John Bergsma class on Biblical Study at FUS.
Seriously one of the best contents in youtube! Thanks for the team
I’m crying!!! This is so good! This is what Star Wars fans were wanting and what we deserved! I feel satisfied for the first time in my Star Wars journey!
Matt! You're like the "Catholic Joe Rogan"! Your spontaneity, curiosity, candour and range of topics! Thank you 😁
Joe Rogan is vehemently anti-Catholic and has spoken so many disgusting blasphemies against Jesus Christ and his Apostles. Not exactly the compliment you think it is.
@@RJ-oh1writ’s not supposed to be a direct, exact comparison. He’s the largest, most popular secular podcast on the internet, and tbf besides the false ideas Rogan has about Catholicism, the podcast has enjoyable aspects. It’s still a compliment - it’s saying Pints has the good aspects of Rogan Podcast without the blasphemous things. Anyway it’s a lighthearted compliment, there’s no need to be so up in arms
@@littledrummergirl_19 Joe Rogan is a good commentator for the UFC. I like to avoid his podcasts because he frequently mocks religion while also saying everyone should try psychedelics. He’s “enjoyable” because he’s polite and funny, but that doesn’t mean he’s worth investing time into listening.
@@RJ-oh1wrTruly and there's another historical figure they did same thing his name was Saul of Tarsus AKA the apostle St. Paul. I pray for Joe Rogan and I also pray for all who blaspheme the deposit of faith! God bless you my friend! 🔥🤟
I agree and the podcast is improving and it was already great. How do you know what has been done and not been done? Is there room for lay research for those St. Anthony of the Desert so inclined(don't get out much)
I also was finishing my doctorate during the 90s when the minimalists were all over the place. Very disheartening, but it also became rather ridiculous, since it was clear that the proponents had little interest in actually listening to evidence. My job during that period was working with a project that photographed ancient inscriptions. Anytime anything was found that actually related to biblical history, there was a huge effort to date it to a late period or explain it away as being something different. In some ways that still has not changed.
Thanks Matt for the Auto-Caption, really help us in indonesia cause our english are bad, , this is a great show and Mr. Bergsma is my hero, thank you 😊
Matt thanks for your show and gentlemanly attitude. My teenage son watches all the time and your shows/clips have played a part in him now contemplating priesthood! ❤
Prayers for your entire family that your son discerns the priesthood well
Thank you for having Dr. B back in the podcast ❤❤❤
Amazing! Dr. Bergsma makes compelling arguments in favor of the Bible through literary and historical analysis. So compelling!
Beautifully said @vrgg8376 . Now I must agree with everyone, yes Matt had good questions but he slightly mocks and pokes fun at Biblical history but I get it. For sake of discussion and all the curious people, I get it but still. An amazing conversation nevertheless and a very knowledge full convo!
I thoroughly enjoy listening to Dr. Bergsma. He is so knowledgeable and so clear in his teaching. I'll listen any time you have him on.

Coptic binding is called exactly that because Coptic Egypt perfected the process of stitching pages together between two wooden sheets to form the first book prototypes with wood covers.
Oh gosh, those small details. Just today I said "I called fish and game" and immediately in my head went "oh, it's not called that here". I absolutely LOVE these historical tidbits 🥰🥰🥰
LOVE this talk so much. Very cool. Made driving my daughter to school almost worth the cost of gas:)
God bless you, God be with you. You have solidified my faith. Please pray for me, that I may find the strength to do wha you an Jesus have called me to do.
This is one of the best videos ive watched- to have all your common bible questions addressed in one video! just wow! i'd usually have to search for each one all over UA-cam.
Thanks a lot guys- this was amazing.
We owe so much to the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you, St Luke, and Our Lord Jesus Christ, for the great care via divine love to document the times of our Lord and subsequent trials of the first Christians. Imagine the number of souls brought to Christ. 🙌 ❤
This talk is absolute food. Thank you, gentlemen.
I read a great article about how Hallmark movies are all Fascist propaganda, and since reading that I've grown to appreciate them more
i was actually expecting a 4h talk. but such a pleasure to learn. God bless
This is absolutely fascinating. It thrills me that secular history corroborates what we know to be true by faith.
@gogr2409
We are in sync.
Listening to John Bergsma is mindblowing.
We're so fortunate to have access to people like John in our midst.
I wish my brain could retain more of what John imparts to us. 🙃
John was hoarse by the time he finished this session.
THANK YOU JOHN.
I have so enjoyed the episodes with Dr. Bergsma!
So many good reading and practice recommendations to grow in the faith. Thank you!
Appreciate that you have faithful Catholics in all walks of life, Matt. Praise be to God!!
Have you ever interviewed a middle-aged who is single hasn't been called to marriage or religious life?
I love ur interviews with dr bergsma! Love from the philippines
Thank you so very much for this interview! Dr. Bergsman is amazing!
“Try doing that with a scroll.” It’s very interesting to think about it like this, how a book was such a technological innovation for writing at the time that it was akin to RAM for a computer. This is probably why Christians were referred to as “the people of the book” in many historical accounts, especially in the Middle East. The reason is because we were the only ones who made books, and there was only one book that was made by us. So the phrase “the people of the book” was just as specific as calling someone “a card carrying communist,” in the minds of someone immersed in the culture of that time it conjures an image of a specific kind of person.
Thank you for this 💖
Wow. Great listen as I work through my day. Danke
Absolutely fantastic show. I LOVE Dr Bergsma. Thank you so much for this❤️☦️
This was an excellent interview with Dr.Bergsman thank you for sharing. I learned so much . Lorraine
An introduction to the bible is so good. It really helps as a companion.
Great stuff. Will def watch this more than once.
Thursday at the end just cringing while Matt goes on and on about taking Dr. Hahn to bed had me in tears 😂
Best PWA episodes ever. Thank you so much Dr Bergsma!
Ya!!!! Shout to British Columbia, Canada!!!! The setting of hallmark movies.

A Dr. bergsma/ Michael Heiser debate/conversation would have been outstanding. RIP Dr Mike.
One of my favorites - gosh he's good!
Thank you so much.
Dr. Burgsma is great
This is brilliant. So grateful.
I'm a Protestant and so impressed with Dr Bergsma and his teaching. I realized that this type of teaching is largely unavailable in Protestantism.
More please! Blessings ❤️
This is so good. Totally my thing.
I was sad when this was over
Loving these interviews!!!
I just found this, it’s 3 years old. Did you guys see Ben Shapiro playing Ave Maria on the violin???!!!
Praying for his conversion and would love to see him on with Dr. B!!
Incredible information. Thank you!
Loved to watch this show. Dr. Bergsma is always so interesting and full of a good sense of humor. Really appreciated this show.
What a wonderful gift, thank you Dr B!!
Kudos to Bergsma for making all this long stories short.
I've wondered if the fact that crucifixion caused the most suffering and was the most torturous way to be killed and was practiced at that time and place factored into the timing of Christ's Incarnation.
Like that the gravity of humanity's sin is so great that God wanted a drastic picture of what, in mercy and justice, it should cost to redeem us and atone for it.
This makes the most sense, as it is through the Cross that the world is redeemed.
Dude is a boss man, the level of thinking which requires knowledge on a vass amount of feilds of study really shows thru in his diction.
His Ethos doesnt rely on his knowledge of the bibles, his authority is derived from the combination of knowledge and concepts to explain them to a lower level is quite amazing to watch/listen to.
His knowledge and verbalization of it is what modern teaching is founded on. I.e. a lecture that has Ethos (authority/trust), Logos (logical/reasoned thought) as well as Pathos or the speakers passion on the subject shows thru thats its not merely something the speaker alone should be excited about.
Hitting these thing correctly can yeild the result of curiosity in the audience members, informing them but also hopefully helping them create their own questions which leads to curiosity.
Great podcast, but the Dr. truly is a well qualified well spoken lecturers if i ever did see one.
The eagle from Rev.12 is possibly an individual, namely St. John, son of Zebedee, the Apostle, to whom our Blessed Mother was entrusted at the foot of the Cross, and with whom she lived a life of contemplation and prayers at Ephesus.
One of the best episodes so far
Excellent show!!!❤️❤️❤️

Amazing conversation!! Learned so much, thank you. I’d love to see a discussion with Hugh Owen, Director of the Kolbe Centre for the Study of Creation.
To my Protestant brother who had a question about the Canon .. if I can be bold enough to add to “Dr B”, the 7 deuterocanonical books were also in the septuagint and the Latin Vulgate. As a Protestant that was huge for me in understanding that those books are inspired.
I hop as you transiition to locals you will continue to post vidos like this to youtube for evangelistic purposes. So many protestants have been introduced to the church by finding your show here.
I have so long been amazed about the Saducees non belief in the resurection. This explains a lot.
Dr Bergsma..what a blessing to the St Paul Centre and to us. Thanks Matt for swiftly having him back on..wow..so happy!!!🎉🎉
I really appreciate the in depth explanation about the story of Abraham and Isaac. Because I had some concerns about that story - "What kind of Father willingly sacrifices his son? This is cult behavior" But this explanation shed a lot more light on this story so thank you.
Fantastic guest and show!
Please please! More! This is fascinating!!
amazing conversation
Please have Father Trenham on for a chat. That would be great. I was raised both Orthodox and Catholic and love when faithful and knowledgeable people from both sides have fruitful discussions. It can bring us back together.
