This is the movie that Mel Gibson should make... The whole book of Acts showing the founding of the Catholic Church. If it was done well and precise it would convert so many protestants because most don't know history. They fundamentally don't know that the early Church was the Catholic Church.

I also was finishing my doctorate during the 90s when the minimalists were all over the place. Very disheartening, but it also became rather ridiculous, since it was clear that the proponents had little interest in actually listening to evidence. My job during that period was working with a project that photographed ancient inscriptions. Anytime anything was found that actually related to biblical history, there was a huge effort to date it to a late period or explain it away as being something different. In some ways that still has not changed.

“Try doing that with a scroll.” It’s very interesting to think about it like this, how a book was such a technological innovation for writing at the time that it was akin to RAM for a computer. This is probably why Christians were referred to as “the people of the book” in many historical accounts, especially in the Middle East. The reason is because we were the only ones who made books, and there was only one book that was made by us. So the phrase “the people of the book” was just as specific as calling someone “a card carrying communist,” in the minds of someone immersed in the culture of that time it conjures an image of a specific kind of person.

I've wondered if the fact that crucifixion caused the most suffering and was the most torturous way to be killed and was practiced at that time and place factored into the timing of Christ's Incarnation.
Like that the gravity of humanity's sin is so great that God wanted a drastic picture of what, in mercy and justice, it should cost to redeem us and atone for it.

Dude is a boss man, the level of thinking which requires knowledge on a vass amount of feilds of study really shows thru in his diction.
His Ethos doesnt rely on his knowledge of the bibles, his authority is derived from the combination of knowledge and concepts to explain them to a lower level is quite amazing to watch/listen to.
His knowledge and verbalization of it is what modern teaching is founded on. I.e. a lecture that has Ethos (authority/trust), Logos (logical/reasoned thought) as well as Pathos or the speakers passion on the subject shows thru thats its not merely something the speaker alone should be excited about.
Hitting these thing correctly can yeild the result of curiosity in the audience members, informing them but also hopefully helping them create their own questions which leads to curiosity.
Great podcast, but the Dr. truly is a well qualified well spoken lecturers if i ever did see one.

The eagle from Rev.12 is possibly an individual, namely St. John, son of Zebedee, the Apostle, to whom our Blessed Mother was entrusted at the foot of the Cross, and with whom she lived a life of contemplation and prayers at Ephesus.

To my Protestant brother who had a question about the Canon .. if I can be bold enough to add to “Dr B”, the 7 deuterocanonical books were also in the septuagint and the Latin Vulgate. As a Protestant that was huge for me in understanding that those books are inspired.
