  • I've had the Sea Eagle TC16, 2020 model, for close to two years so I could bring a canoe with me in my RoadTrek 190V camper van. It's been primarily for tandem paddling. In this video I give my impressions on the TC16 as a solo paddling boat with recommendations for seat configuration and paddles.

Nice video. Is it comfortable without a backrest support? In my experience with paddling on kayak, if the backrest is not good it strenuous to the back.

I don’t use canoes with backrest support. Very comfortable for me, but I suspect anyone with back discomfort would have some pain on a traditional canoe seat.

Could drop a rowing outrigger kit in there?

Any tips for increasing stability with the TC16? I bought it for my 13 year old son and I to get out on the water with. I initially inflated it to 9.5psi and we dumped it over before we even got away from the dock. I thought maybe the pressure was too high for our weight so I dropped it to 7.2psi. same thing. The only way we were able to use it was sitting on the floor like a kayak. I bought it based on the reviews of how stable it is, but now after one hour in the water I'm already considering returning it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Calder - definitely inflate it to the rated 10 PSI. This is imperative to the rigidity of the boat. The drop stitch construction won’t work without it.

I'll go ahead and put it at the full 10psi next time.
After getting home it occurred to me that the balance issue was really a trimming issue. I was in the back seat at 355lb and my son was in the front at 130lb. I'm going to order the middle seat and move into that position. Pretty sure that'll solve the issue.
      Thanks for the reply.

You can also try paddling the boat backwards. It’s symmetrical. It will put you closer to the center. As long as your son’s legs aren’t too long, he should be comfortable in front.

helpful to see this. we just ordered our Sea Eagle as well. Did you ever consider getting a Bixpy motor for it?

Most of my enjoyment to canoe is actually paddling! The Bixpy looks pretty cool, but I haven't considered it.
