    Hi Cliff, another great video as usual. If you had to choose between the TC16 and the Explorer 420X, which would you choose? I'm torn between the two, they each have similar specs, and can both do class 4 rapids if need be (occasional for me and my wife).
    Any help would be much appreciated, cheers.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  17 днів тому +1

      Hey 👋 Leo, well you ask another great question! Because I like the balanced act of paddling a kayak with a kayak paddle, I would probably go with the explorer, although the 380 X simply because it would be better if I am solo. If I was tandem most of the time I would go with the 420 X.
      I view the act of paddling a canoe like that as a tandem act, and I am usually solo, therefore a kayak probably works better. Still, I would definitely like to paddle the travel canoe down a river, camping trip by myself. Definitely doable!
      Hope this helps, let me know what you choose! Safe adventuring out there!

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  6 місяців тому

      Hi William - It’s really just a nice canoe. You are right though, the hull will catch more wind than a paddleboard. Of course if you are standing on a
      paddleboard, I would argue that the paddle board catches more wind with the human sail standing up on it, Lol. I, myself, have not really been
      a canoe paddler, as I have always gravitated to double blade paddling in a kayak. I do like paddle boarding too, more to come on that with videos.

      Oh sorry, just realized that you might have been asking which kayak you should go with? If you are considering paddling the paddle ski as a primary activity, I would urge against that. The paddle ski can be paddled if you are going with the wind or current. I would never want to be paddling that out in the open in rougher seas or headwinds. It is a great boat to paddle, when you are using environmental conditions to your advantage. For what you want to do, I would recommend the Explorer or fast track.

    Likecfolding bikes and packrafts there is a certain appeal to packable vessels. Withoit real room to winter a solid canoe but as a 🇨🇦 that uses and needs one this is a viable option. The seemingly flat bottom yields some concern with turns as does the hefty weight.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  5 місяців тому

      Hey there, it seems to turn well for me, but I'm a kayaker and not a canoer. So, I might not be the best judge, when comparing to high-end canoes. I have definitely shifted to pretty much all inflatable crafts, because I love the portability, storability, performance and transportability that they offer, compared to the rigid hard shells that I had in the past.

    I have owned Two Sea Eagle inflatable sport boats purchased new and both with three-year warranties. Both of those boats started falling apart just after the three-year warranty had expired. The first thing that came unglued on my 14 foot boat was one of the tow rings while I was driving down the interstate. Thankfully, I was wise enough to purchase two high-quality American made D rings and glued them to the nose of the boat using high-quality American made glue. Shortly after that all the seams came unglued, including the transom. One morning I went outside and there was my motor sitting on the ground and The transom completely unglued from the boat. Just imagine zipping across the lake and your transom comes unglued. I’m surprised SeaEagle has not been sued out of existence by now. I wonder how many people have been seriously injured when their boats came unglued. I consider all sea eagle boats to be dangerous Chinese junk and would highly advise anyone against purchasing one.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  4 місяці тому

      Sorry to hear about your experiences. I know many viewers of mine that have had their boats for 10 years now with no problems. I'm curious, what part of the country do you live? How do you store your boats when not in use? I always make sure my boats are totally dry and I store them always in a climate controlled AC / Heated facility. Never extremely hot or never extremely cold. That is important for me here in Texas. Storage in extreme temperatures could alter the lifespan of your boat. Some just roll up their boats and store them in an extra bedroom closet or slide under a bedroom bed. Others, store in a basement if they have a basement. Basements are a very good climate controlled facility throughout the year.
      Let me know the answers to these questions, that will help me!

      Fat track tandem, 5 years old, seam on the inside hull came apart(unglued). No fix possible, always stored dry in climate controled ( 70) area.
      I own a 14 year old Sea eagle explorer ( 850 lbs capacity, they don't make them anymore) no issues still going strong. When sea eagle became popular their quality and customer service went down hill. Good review, thanks for making it. I've been using SE Explorer and RazorLite for almost 10 years. One question I have about TC-16 that I cannot find an answer to anywhere: how do you carry it on a 1000 meters portage? No yoke or anything similar to it nor a way to attach a yoke.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  6 місяців тому

      There is definitely no yoke, nor have I ever seen one offered. Think you are probably going to have to two person “team” carry it, or use the seat as a yoke
      with a life jacket on it providing some cushion for your poor neck! Perhaps you could make a yoke, then attach it to D rings that you rig at the balance
      fulcrum point on the hull………

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  4 місяці тому

      Hi there! I have this pump - Air Inflation Pumps:
      alnk.to/9btN2h3
      It is extremely FAST. Depending on the kayak or boat you are inflating, the times are different, but the all drop stitch RazorLite with 3 - 10psi
      air chambers takes like 4 minutes to inflate. It’s a great pump, I still have the pump that preceded this Mega pump, and the Mega pump is
      definitely faster, with longer lasting battery. I believe I could inflate 8-10 kayaks on one charge with the Mega pump.

    They're actually finding out more and more people are getting skin cancers by not getting enough sun ironically. It's the other way around. I'm a big advocate of getting plenty of vitamin d and getting sun. All my friends who have gotten skin cancers always wear sunscreen. 🤔. Great video. Looks amazing and nice areas to be in a canoe. • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes! In my humble opinion, I believe sunscreens are what are giving people cancer. They're unnecessary chemicals to be putting on the skin, unless they are mineral based zinc products. They make you all white though, then that white rubs off all over your boat and your car, etc., I choose to just cover up and if it is hot, I get the cover-up wet and it is like air conditioning. Also, I take vitamin D supplements which are supposed to be beneficial to preventing skin cancer.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  5 місяців тому

      I will start out by saying that I love the Pakayak and how it is virtually identical to a one piece hard shell rotomolded touring kayak. If that's what you're looking for, the Pakayak is it! My only complaint about it was its sub 60 pound weight. I believe 58 or 59 pounds. Not much different than a one piece rotomolded 14 foot touring kayak. Now, all new packayaks are significantly lighter coming in around 49 pounds. That is a big plus! I'm actually thinking of selling mine and getting a newer lighter model.
      I use Sea Eagles the most! I love how extremely light they are, how they perform very well, and how they carry a ton of weight! My favorite Sea Eagles are the:

      Great question! This is common on drop stitch inflatables. Wherever you have an inflation valve, opposite that valve on the other side is a little blister. Totally normal! It occurs when the internal fibers that make up the drop stitch fabric are cut free to make way for the inflation valve.

      Hi 👋 there, great question! I'm not familiar with anything smaller in terms of a true canoe, but still inflatable. Here are some other great options though. One of them is very canoe like.
      This is one of my favorite kayaks, it is often referred by many as a canoe, because of its open cockpit style. You can get this in single or tandem. I have both, but have never paddle the tandem as a single paddler. If you are going to paddle as a single paddler, the majority of the time, I would go with a single 393 RL.

      @@KayakCliff I keep flip flopping between Razorlite and Fasttrack, a friend of mine goes down a river that is shallow enough in places that it usually bottoms out, plus a patch of class 1'ish rapids.
      Razorlite says no rapids and I'm heavier so I THINK I'd be better off with the FastTrack for that?
      But I'm not sure how strict the whole "no whitewater" bit is.

      @KMCA779 i've been down class one Rapids in mine (RazorLite)with about 50 pounds of camping gear, plus my 190 pounds self. It performed well for me, but if you are a heavier, paddler, you might have a little difficulty. The problem with the fast track, for me, is if you ever have to remove the skeg, it is very difficult to paddle. I have started using the small skeg that Sea Eagle sells, and it is wonderful, I have not tried it on the fast track yet though. I am thinking it would work great though! They are pricey, but you don’t need a roof rack or trailer to transport and they don’t take up much space to store like a full size boat. You can
      spend a lot more on a composite or wood boat, but less on an aluminum / plastic boat. Not having the transportation issues or storage issues,
      I think it’s a good price point. Also having the buoyancy of never sinking on the added stability is a plus +. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      That is a very good question! I do prefer the sea eagle high back seats as they do support my back very well. My butt gets sore in them because they are a little hard.
      Now, if I am sitting in a canoe, I am sitting with my butt higher off the ground, more in a seating position, so my legs tend to be more comfortable. I have not been in the canoe for the extended amounts of time like I have been in the kayak. I think it's a tossup between the two. I will say, set up and take down on the razor light is faster and easier. You don't have 12 nuts and bolts that you have to back out to remove the seats like in the canoe. It’s all fun and games till someone pokes an eye out…..or a sharp stick pokes your canoe. So, so as I understand it, stability is largely to do with hull shape. A flat bottom should feel initially more stable, but if you start to lean too much, it just drops over. Did you ever get that feeling, or does maybe the fact it’s inflatable change things? And just J stroke it. Why would you switch all the time?

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  6 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching and commenting Jim! I do think the shape of the hull gives it stability as you say, also the fact that the sides of the boat
      are inflatable air chambers, means as you dip a side down, your encounter more resistance due to the inherent floatation in the sides. That too
      might give it great stability. As for the stroke, I must say, I am a kayaker and have not done too much canoeing. I was always taught that the
      person in the back of the boat is in charge of steering, for me that meant switching sides. I know that is probably wrong, but I am definitely a neophyte in the canoe paddling world, Lol.
