  • Pelinal Whitestrake was a famous Divine Crusader who's most prominent role as such was during the first era, in which he battled and saved mankind from enslavement under the Ayleid rule in Cyrodiil. He battled Elven leaders, as well as the Ayleid King Umaril the Unfeathered. He was known to be quite insane in his hatred for Elven kind, but however is regarded as a hero to mankind. This video talks about his hatred for Elven kind, his madness, his heroism, and his unfortunate end.

How would you feel if, within your lifetime, there was a man who unleashed a terrifying weapon that all but annihilated your culture? How would you feel knowing that he didn't even make that weapon, he just received it as a gift from your demon-worshiping cousins in order to assuage him? And then how would you feel if people started worshiping that man as a righteous god?
Even with all the self-righteous notions of elven supremacy, I sincerely do not blame the Aldmeri for being bitter and striking back when they could finally afford to. What the Empire did to them was inhumane, comparable to the US bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (except of course that it's in a fictional world).
All things considered, the fact that they settled on the races of men ceasing to worship a war criminal as a god was rather gracious of them.
Now I'll admit that doesn't automatically make their cause just, but it would be wise to not forget that every conflict has at least two sides, and each side is always motivated by their own cultural/personal sense of righteousness. This is true no matter the scale. Even when one side has more moral clout, even if they are divinely supported, these things only serve to make them zealous.
Skyrim has not always belonged to the Nords. They conquered it. Therefore, they are liable to be conquered themselves.

I am two weeks late but it is implied his awareness was due to him being either a possible Shezarrine (an incarnation of Lorkhan upon Nirn), or an avatar of Akatosh. His insanity though, would certainly be related to him being an avatar of Akatosh (who suffered from bipolar disorder during the First Era). Gods in TES are shaped in part by their faithful's beliefs. With both humans and elves giving praise to Akatosh each in their own nationalistic way, Akatosh was... for a lack of a better word... broken, and Pelinal may have reflected this, being his avatar.

The Amulet of Kings is used to prevent the realms of the Daedra from meeting Nirn...

I sometimes feel overwhelmed by how much lore exists for the fictional IPs out there. Most people can play an Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Warhammer (40k), Halo, etc video game and dismiss all the references as just more silly names, but then you go on the wikis or listen to dildos on youtube and it's like BWAAAMMMM hours and hours of stuff behind the silly names. I love TES, Oblivion and Skyrim especially, but there is so much I haven't bothered to look into until years later. Funnily enough, what sparks the most curiosity of info for me to pursue are those references that make me remember the games so I can go back to play them with a new perspective. For example, one of the biggest, yet subtlest things here is at the end when the text says the dude was smothered by moths for angering Pelinal. Wtf is up TES and moths? Are those the same as the ancestor moths that the librarians of the literal Elder Scrolls worship? Put down the pipe, Todd Howard!

Pelinal could be the HoonDing. The Hoonding was believed by the Redgaurds to be sent by the Gods in time of need. The Redgaurds hate elves and battled with them constantly throughout their history. His left arm was made of a killing light. Maybe because he was a sword singer and they mistook his soul sword as a killing light. Pelinal's duel with Haromir of Copper and Tea he his neck-veins while screaming praise to Reman. Perhaps he was referring to Reymon Ebonarm instead who was a HoonDing himself. As we know Yokuda was destroyed. It's a long shot but it could of been Pelinal going on of his madness but it was left unchecked and he his path of destruction cause Yokuda to be destroyed somehow. All the races have differing stories but essentially the same Gods. "During the Tiber Wars, HoonDing was said to have been a sword or a crown, or both" perhaps an amulet even? Tiber Septem maybif gotten the crown from him. Pelinal may of been the numidian for all we know. The history and myth often mix and get obscured a lot so perhaps so it doesn't necessarily line up with dates and descriptions but it kind of fits. The Hoonding was known as "The Make Way God, is the Yokudan spirit of 'perseverance over infidels'. The HoonDing has historically materialized whenever the Redguards need to 'make way' for their people." Which Pelinal definitely made way for mankind from oppression. "The HoonDing has had many other manifestations over the course of time; for example, Reymon Ebonarm may be another aspect of the HoonDing that has manifested on Tamriel as an adversary of the Daedric powers." The Ayleids worshipped Daedra and could summon armies from Oblivion. Since the Hoonding had had many manifestations throughout history. Pelinal was callee the 3rd, perhaps a third manifestation. It's a theory I'm working on and I admit it's a bit out there but it fits somewhat as well

Which isn't what Alessia even desired, his death was timed well and I think makes up for the mindless slaughter he caused. And I think Alessia was certainly more level headed than he. Despite his immense power.

Lady of Scrolls indeed Pelinal would have most likely would have started a civil war with Alessia which could have ended the first empire before it could begin.
He was definitely a hero and a villain a hero for freeing mankind from slavery and helping in establishing the first empire which admittedly become something Alessia would despise with all her being. But Pelinal was also bit of a piece of shit considering he hated all elves and wanted to kill them all he probably butchered elf villagers and townsfolk before and after he met Alessia. It also doesn’t help that he scolded even killed people for what he saw as blasphemy to use the example of the guy in the video when he said he was the avatar of shezarr and he lost his temper instead of going “no my good man I am just a man a knight in our queen and gods Service” but we got “you fucking heretic I will kill you and your family!”

I'm late but his devotion to the divine's despite being (possible) shezarrine is generally the prevailing theory on why he's bat-shit crazy to begin with
That's an identity crisis I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, not to mention akatosh's own identity was being split into two parts who were very much against the other to begin with
So being the avatar of a god that was punished by the gods he reveres, while having some connection to akatosh who's already a broken God around this point in history must be unbearable on the psyche.
Although that kind of mind fuckery is what makes him my favorite knight in all history, fictional or real. Still a hero, but totally touched in the head that would put most warlords to shame.

If all humanity was like Pelinal Whitestrake, Tamriel would just be medieval Warhammer 40k

good details.. nicely narrated too... there's certainly a few things you won't easily find in the lore of oblivions knights of the nine dlc...

I think Pelinal must of been able to read an Elder Scroll in order to be so powerful. He probably read bits of the future and that is why he knew the nane of Reman. He may of been able to see some sort of advantage in all of those battles and duels by having that knowledge. Would also explain his fits of madness. As for his head still talking to his friend? Maybe something to do with magic from the amulet of kings, I dunno.

"Pelinal Whitestrake, blessed wretched knight of old,
Terrible killer of men, where in thine heart in your armor of gold?
Oh Whitestrake, wicked terrible maddened king,
Bring upon the dawn of our age, so that your name for eternity we sing."
