    So glad I came across this video while searching how to repair by 'running toilet'. My water bill, since the summer had increased from about $35-40 monthly, becoming routinely over $70 now.
    I noticed recently water running down the back of the toilet bowl at a very slow trickle; continuously. I suspect this has been going on for quite awhile. Convinced I need to replace the entire valve I started searching youtube and found your video. Always the guy to try the simplest solution first, replacing the seal solved the issue for me. Only $3.48 at the big orange box store. I will now order a couple off of Amazon to have for any future issues. Thanks for the solution. I'm now a new subscriber to your channel. 👍🚽😄

    thank you for making this video! It helped me make my toilet stop running. I think I inadvertantly loosened the fill valve when replacing the chain between the handle and the flapper in the past and that caused the issue. all I had to do was push down and turn it right to tighten it and it immediately worked again and water no longer endlessly goes down the overflow pipe. I had the water adjusted to the lowest level and it still went down the overflow. Now I can adjust it close to the top of the overflow pipe and no noise at all!

    I never knew you had to twist off that top, I couldn't get the rod out but I did it anyway and sure enough it twisted off, then the rod came out. There was white calcification on the valve seal so I cleaned it for now with white vinegar and an old toothbrush, put it back in and problem solved. I'll pick up some extra seals asap but for now, when I leave the house I'll shut the water off but it's not running anymore. Thank You!

    What about toilet valve that is spouting water from the fill valve? Which was not letting in water inside the bowl to begun with but after opening the top of valve and cleaning debris and putting it back is now spouting water from the top?

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  Рік тому +1

      It’s hard to tell without seeing the situation but it sounds like the valve is leaking past the seal and not shutting off. If there is a crack or other damage to the valve then it’s likely the whole valve assembly would need to be replaced. Easy fix, parts are available at all hardware stores.

    Our toilet takes up to 4 times longer to refill after a flush as a normal time. I replaced the seal and flushed the supply line. Could the problem be in the restrictor at the bottom end of the fill valve? If so, what are the pros and cons of removing that restrictor?

      @@WarriorHouseDIY Thanks so much for trying to help me. I got the cap off but now I can't get the little plastic part out. Oh well, I tried. I live in California so a plumber is going to cost twice as much. I tried replacing the flapper but that didn't help either. The flapper I bought was universal and it seems to be working fine, so I don't know. Thank God I have more than one bathroom!

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  9 місяців тому +1

      @dbcooper692 the rubber seal should come out pretty easily with a pliers or tweezers. Replacing the fill valve assembly is as simple as turning the water valve off, disconnecting the line after drawing the tank and unscrewed the plastic nut under the tank for the fill valve and reverse the process for installation.

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  Місяць тому

      The rod holding the float (on a model like this) and I apologize, yes I was holding the actual part and making it harder to see. In most cases the float will just snap apart from the float stem/rod. It’s also possible to remove the top of the fill valve assembly without disconnecting the float but can make it difficult to reattach sometimes. Thank you for commenting to point this out.

    Most of the time it is not valve, it is rubber ring on the bottom of the tank, which probably thoughtfully purposely made out of such rubber that will dissolve over time, becomes eroded by water and the main valve is not able to keep water in the tank. Therefore it is much different repair, happens more often than with control valve.

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  Рік тому +2

      Agreed. Always important to rule out different possibilities before replacing parts. Food coloring in the tank can help follow the path of leakage, if applicable. Thanks for the comment and input!

    After seeing the innards of the toilet, I doubt it was your fill valve that was the problem. You have a champion 4 flush valve in that toilet that's notorious for leaking around the seal. Your flush valve seal/s probably needs replaced, not your fill valve.

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  5 місяців тому

      Agreed but in this case the fill valve seal was the problem. No doubt the city water and flush assembly make for a leaky combo over time. Thanks for commenting

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  Рік тому

      It’s pretty common for old water valves to get stuck or even fail like you described. As for replacing the seal with the water running, once you remove the top of the filler valve the water will be “shooting” straight up. I suppose you could cover the it with a glass to divert the water downward? Many times we turn the water on with a glass over the top of the fuller to clear any debris. I would suggest addressing the water valve either way. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching

      I've always been told by my contractor..to exercise all your shut off valves..anything that turns on and off can easily seize over time..and then they are not usable..so add to your maintenance list to turn them on and off a few times a year..and don't snug them either way.. leave a tiny bit of play so they don't seize..goes for all valves..don't forget washing machine ones..and check hoses and washers.. etc.
      Thank you WarriorhouseDIY..GREAT VIDEOS..SO HELPFUL..
      is there any other way to get the compression fitting off the angle stop copper pipe besides that weird tool..I live on an island and often have to improvise..amazing what one can invent..lol

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  9 місяців тому +1

      @michelleeasterly1985 excellent tips!!! And thanks for the feedback:)
      For the compression ring, sometimes I’ll get them to turn a bit with a channel locks then slide off easier. If you’re installing a new valve you could also make a small relief cut in the ring with a Dremel tool or cut the pipe short if you have enough length. Hope that helps

    I replaced the seal, but it still leaks 😢

      I’m sure you checked the filler valve float lever and assembly to make sure it’s reassembled securely. You could always push down on the top of the filler valve cap to see if that stops the flow, if so, there could possibly be a crack.
      Also, guessing you checked the flapper to ensure proper seal. If bitcoin try gently pushing that down to stop the leakage. If you’re uncertain you could turn off the water and add some food coloring to the tank, if the colored water enters the toilet then the flapper is likely your culprit.

      I changed the flapper, and the water is still running. So, I ordered a new fluidmaster fill valve high performance kit, with tank seal, tank bolts. Hopefully, that'll do the trick. Thanks for your help and expertise. You ROCK!

    Frustrated because I can’t get a flapper that doesn’t seal properly all the time

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  Рік тому +1

      My best advice is to match the model number from the the toilet tank to the correct flapper. Seems to make a difference when aftermarket ones don’t work. Quick google search of the model number should give you the part number.

    My insides of my toilet are new and it's still runnimg

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  Рік тому

      How new? It’s possible with a situation like really hard water that mineral deposits could mess up the seal quickly. But if it’s really new, like under warranty I would see about having the fill valve assembly exchanged possibly.
      If the parts were just recently replaced, has everything else been looked at? Did you try some food coloring in the tank to see if you’re leaking at the flapper?

      Dirty? This particular one has staining from hard water. Deep? To build the proper head pressure to flush the toilet. 😉

      @karens346 ah dark, yes it’s from staining. This hard water is high in iron, that’s where the red discoloration comes from :)

    Why can't someone design a toilet where Orca W*nfrey could cr*p out ELVISSSSS!!!!!..... and you won't need a plunger??? Just asking

    • @WarriorHouseDIY
      @WarriorHouseDIY  Рік тому

      There are some “anti clog” toilets on the market. I find that paper is the most common culprit (too thick and absorbs too much water and clogs up)
