    I'm building my Manor mansion here in North Carolina. Thought It'll be better to hire a licenced electrician to wire my laundry appliances as well as one ice maker machine and one freezer receptacles. At the beginning I thought the hardest part was wiring the dryer receptacle, but you saved me $1,700+ to get the job done. I'll just have to buy the materials and figure out how to handle myself a very very long wire to the dryer haha. BTW Thanks a lot mate, you got a new subscriber here!

    My electric dryer has a double pole 30 amp, but it’s taking power from the same bus bar. The drum motor is turning, but for the heating element to work, it requires one of the 120 lines to be from the other bus bar - I think you referred to this in the video as getting power from the left and right side.
    I have a three hole outlet in the laundry room and see 120 V between the round hole and each of the hot slots. But when I check across the two hot slots, I see 0 V.

    I thought you are not suppose to put romex in side any pipe cause of heat. I need to run a romex cable from my dryier inside the house but at some point the cable would be expose to the elements because the service box is outside on one of the house stilt. Any suggestions? Thanks for sharing.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  5 років тому +1

      That's right: you're not supposed to run Romex inside of conduit. I've had an inspector tell me that a very short run with plenty of space in the conduit (only one run of Romex) is not a problem. For your situation, a larger diameter conduit (1" or 1.5") would give that wire plenty of space to dissipate the heat

    The receptacles seem too close to the water lines. Is that up to code?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  4 роки тому

      As I understand it code in the US is funny on this one: there is a max distance, so the receptacle can't be more than 6' away from the washer and dryer, but there is no minimum distance stated in the Code ... if you're super worried about it you could always put your receptacle in and outdoor box to protect it from water, but that seems like overkill

    I know thi s a really late question, but I just got a new dryer that had the same plug you're showing. My old dryer had the ground round peg in the middle (exactly where the new one just has the screw) I bought a new outlet at Lowes to change this out so I could use the new dryer, but my cable has only 3 wires...a black, a white and a copper ground wire. But the outlet is just like yours with the additional screw for the red wire (which I don't have). I have th ebreaker turned off, but I'm confused as to why my cable to my dryer outlet only has the 3 wires and not the 4. Will it be dangerous to hook this up without the red wire?

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  4 роки тому

      If the wire coming out of your dryer just has the three wires, match it to an outlet enervated with the same number and gauge of wires. Does that make sense? They need to be paired

      The hazard of not killing power to the box would be coming into contact with one of the main buses ... so I go for maximum safety and kill the power to this box. But note that mine is a sub-panel. Most people are likely wiring to a main panel, where killing all power is more difficult. So follow safe practices.

    So you are wiring the receptacle, but you don't show which wires go where on the receptacle.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  5 років тому

      The black (hot) and white (neutral) wires carry the current, and the copper wire is the ground. Note that the outlet's screw terminals are certain colors. The white wire goes on the silver screw. The bare copper or green wire goes on the green screw. Black wires go on copper screws. In this case red is also hot, so goes on copper. Your outlet should come with wiring instructions
