- After a week spent in Donbass, our journalists bring back images of a Ukrainian army worn out by years of conflict. The troops now have to confront the suicide of young soldiers at the end of their nerves. In Avdiivka, on the front line, some civilians are willing to join the pro-Russian separatists zone. Ukrainian inhabitants and soldiers continue to live in fear and uncertainty, while Moscow continues to blow hot and cold on Ukraine.

‘Soldiers live on the razor’s edge. My role is to give them a message of hope’, says Father Oleksandr, who regularly visits soldiers on the front line. There is a high rate of suicide in the Ukrainian army, as soldiers begin to lose hope. ‘Russia is like a dragon with many heads. You cut off one head and three more grow back’, says Zurab, an officer in the Ukrainian army.

As a Greek orthodox i can't believe that these two Nations are fighting eachother..i 've grown up ( Thessaly-Greece) with sayings from olders that Slavs are friends and allies.
In my village in Magnesia region there was an old lady from Ukraine, used to work in a house ( looking after an other older lady).. Valentina ,very respectful lady. A week ago she decided to leave for Ukraine because her son is in hospital disabled- injured from the war. Neighbours we gathered some money for her needs and helped her to travel and gave her a new phone with international apps , so we can find her or contact with us if she needs anything, but because she's old and not familiar with phones like that ,isn't working. The moment leaves the village broke my hurt. I hope and pray she and her family ( so as all people) be ok.
The nations are not fighting it is the politicians of these nations and other nations...
Well, you should know that the Moscow patriarch is currently out of the Orthodox club since their church is chain to the Kremlin. This has been coming for a long time.
What about Croatian/Bosniak/Serbian fight? They are also slavs but fought against each others.

People chose their politicians and people are in charge of their country, russian people invaded my country(army is constitued of them- logic) and even if you say that putin is an dictator, that doesn't change my opinion of them, because those who didn't invade, did nothing to prevent war at 2014(but instead supported it) and do nothing now.
Plus 95% of russians support this war against Ukraine and believe me, my uncle is an ukrainian military and his own aunt, that lives in russia doesn't care that he and his family is in danger, she continues to accuse ukrainians of being nazists and still thinks that we are "brothers" even tho russia was our enemy ever since her foundation(since moscovy times), they made holodomors, killed over 10 millions of ukrainians in gulags and occupied our land during last 300 years, not counting endless crimes against humanity and my nation.

Watching this just hours after the invasion, absolutely heartbreaking. I didn't even realize the fear and suffering Ukrainians had been experiencing on the front lines for years even before today. All these people hopeful Russia won't invade and that the 2 countries can go back to being allies. Putin will get his retribution for his treatment of these innocent people.

As an American citizen im truly sorry we couldn't send soldiers and other military equipment. If I could I would be there myself on the front lines fighting beside you patriots
The US has sent a massive amount of military equipment to Ukraine over the years, including as recently as a month ago when $650 million worth of weapons were given to them. However, troops or even air support is a much trickier situation...unfortunately. That said, if any of the former Soviet republics can stand up to the Russians, it's Ukraine. Very strong and patriotic people. 🇺🇦

Some subtitles are not correct... not that it completely changes the point, but is a bit annoying. Like writing "this is a russian weapon, yes", when the soldier said "This was made in the soviet union" (which was not russia then, but also included Ukraine and many other countries at the time). And the old lady at 5:50 didn't say some of the things - nothing about 2 years, checkpoints and bribes. At 6:16 the other old lady didn't say about "15 km". At 6:41 she says "there was this hole", not "one day a missile fell..." and then she doesn't say "The wall has been rebuilt"... anyway. I understand, that you may be adding some off-camera information to tell a story, but these moves are kinda unethical on your side. Don't twist words of the people, add details in your own voiceover. Journalist shouldn't do this.

Because it was not a democratic decision. It was a choice birthed by violence. Moreover, its sovereign Ukranian territory which they have heild for hundereds of years.
These countries would also need international recognition and considering how Putin's poltical violence has pushed this conflict further and further so needlessly, I don't think anyone from the international community wants to back that unless you are already an ally like "Communist" China.
When Chechens wanted to become independent, why did Russia respond by killing hundreds of thousands of people and destroying entire cities? Where was their right to self determination?

@@northernleigonare There were referendums held in multiple states in favor of secession or at least some autonomy from Ukraine. These areas are majority ethnic Russian. Ukraine is a poorly drawn up nation! The interests of the majority of the people in the East do not align with those in the West. The East deserves independence from the West, which has much greater interest in joining NATO and aligning with US/EU interests.

Honestly, I cant help but think there's a ton of bullshit involved in this situation, fueling unnecessary tensions, provoking irrational responses, and manipulating opinions.... even from the so-called independent media, and maybe its accidental in some cases.
