Hello Dan, I just completed the installation of my CCT into a 2005 FJR 1300 and I would like to say thank you for your video. It was still a little bit of a challenge. I found it helpful to also remove the clutch cover in order to get enough travel to use the 8mm wrench during the removal of the CCT bottom bolt. Beside that, everything went pretty well. My bike still had the original CCT (no green dot). Huge improvement!

Thanks for the encouragement. Any extra millimetres are useful when turning that 8mm in such s confined space! Well done.

instead of removing the cover, i cut my 8mm wrench to fit.

A big THANK YOU for posting this video. Your directions were perfect. I found it important to use a ratchet wrench with 5 degree (72 tooth) mechanism since the area is so tight. 2nd item is that the tight space between 8mm bolt and the tensioner was not sufficient to get the wrench onto the bolt. Needed a "thin-wall" wrench so I used my belt sander to grind down the radius of the ratchet wrench. Overall, slow tedious work but not technically challenging.

Much as I abhor delving into the internals of an engine (somehow spoils the virginity) I will tackle this job now on my '05 thanks in large part to your video. One correction: the 'Cam Chain Inspection Cover' is actually the 'Oil Pump Cover' - better for ordering the gasket 😀

The "metal.dowel.rod" is here to keep some tension so you do not have to zip tie anything when changing the tensioner.... if you really worry set timing to TDC and go for it

I don't know what all the fuss about the bottom bolt is about, I just stuck a 8 mm 1/4 inch drive socket on it from underneath then stuck my 1)4 inch drive screwdriver handle thing through the hole on the frame and into the socket and grabbed the handle of the screwdriver thing with a crescent wrench and it came right out

To just fit the cam chain tensioner. Do you have to take the side case off. Fjr-03A model

Should the chain guides be changed also on my 215 000 km 2005 fjr?

Hard to say without seeing it. They are likely to be worn at that mileage. However, they may easily not be. But it's not a simple job and I wouldn't do it myself.

How can I visually inspect to see if my bike already has the new CCT installed without removing fairings etc.?

You need to see the dot. You can't do that without removing things.

@@motomoto2296 Not entirely true, you can look down alongside the right hand side of the gas tank and see the top of the tensioner. You have to push the rubber 'dam' towards the tank and shine a bright flashlight in to see it. Did that on my '05, got the original still...

HI what sealant did you use for the gasket

    • @motomoto2296
      @motomoto2296  3 роки тому

I can't remember which sealant. I borrowed it from a neighbour but it was generic gasket sealant, just a smear.

    How is the CCT lubricated?

Don't know exactly. I presume it gets what it needs from the oil system

Did you have to drain the engine oil ?

Not necessary ,,,, My 2002 FJR1300 has 80,000 Miles and is quite as a church mouse. Nothing at all wrong with the cam chain tensioner.
