BMW K1200LT Montenegro 2013

From UK, I commuted to work in Montenegro for a few weeks in summer 2013. I saw the entire Dalmatian coast and Albania and even went to Antalya Turkey. This was before the days of filming absolutely everything. But this gives a taste of the region. I want to go back in 2025 for an enduro/adventure trail version of the same trip.

A mash up of some ABR24 moments made from our own clips and a few snippets from random strangers' uploads where I happen to have found myself and my brother in their footage. Content brazenly stolen from @brinstudley and @greybiker99 (inc the map graphic). Thanks in advance. A step by step guide to what I did to replace a worn Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) on my 2004 FJR1300A, 57k miles. Engine noise before and after: ua-cam.com/video/c_L9ca5VBdM/v-deo.html Sprint version of this video: ua-cam.com/video/6xXkjgsKXX8/v-deo.html I made these videos because I couldn't find any which were detailed enough. I have never done a CCT on any bike, and never worked on an FJR befor...

A quick, no messing guide about what I did to replace a worn Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) on my 2004 FJR1300A, 57k miles. THIS VIDEO IS PURPOSELY QUICK, OFFERING BULLET POINT DIRECTIONS. NO RAMBLING EXPLANATIONS. IT'S EASIER TO PAUSE THAN SKIP THROUGH SOME GUY RATTLING ON. FJR1300 cam chain noise before and after CCT install
Переглядів 7 тис.5 років тому
A short clip to compare the engine sound of the FJR with a worn Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) and a new one (the latest edition 'green-spot' Yamaha OE CCT) The CCT was renowned to be weak in the early models. Some lasted 70k, others 16k. The one I removed seemed to be original (no spot) on a 2004 with 57k miles. Check my videos for how I replaced it. Sprint version: ua-cam.com/video/6xXkjgsKXX8/v-d...

Throttle butterfly rattle. Balance throttle bodies.
Many thanks, even after three plus years your video is still helping us out. Like others, was scratching my head and not wanting to force anything too much, even now there is still nothing about adjustment in the manual with the boots.
thanks dude.. i was about to go out of my mind adjusting new pair.
How many times you gonna post this same video
I don't know what all the fuss about the bottom bolt is about, I just stuck a 8 mm 1/4 inch drive socket on it from underneath then stuck my 1)4 inch drive screwdriver handle thing through the hole on the frame and into the socket and grabbed the handle of the screwdriver thing with a crescent wrench and it came right out
The "metal.dowel.rod" is here to keep some tension so you do not have to zip tie anything when changing the tensioner.... if you really worry set timing to TDC and go for it
what's the torque for the inspection cover?
Dude I was struggling with this and the manual didn't say anything about it. Thx
Thank you, I've spent 20 last minutes trying to just pull the stuff in the random directions, so this has immensely helped!
Haha, genuinely baffled sat here trying to work my new boots out and had to google it. Cheers for working it out first so i didnt have to 😂😂
Short and sweet, and I'm an idiot for not realising this without visual aid. Thank you! You would have thought that this could have been in the short "manual" that Sidi attaches to the boot, but apparently not...
That's why I made the clip. I was the same as you before I worked iit out. Best boots out there though!
Yeah... I think store clerk has shown it to me but I had an information overload buying all my first gear...
Thanks for posting this. I think it's something in going to do in the near future.
Thanks
Very useful video, thank you!
Not necessary ,,,, My 2002 FJR1300 has 80,000 Miles and is quite as a church mouse. Nothing at all wrong with the cam chain tensioner.
just did mine. mine sounded worse than yours. just like a diesel truck. much quiter now. hope it lasts tough
i used this guide and had success on my 2005 1300abs.....thank you so much!
To just fit the cam chain tensioner. Do you have to take the side case off. Fjr-03A model
What was the bike mileage?
I think about 55k miles
safer to use a glove when handling cause that stuff is corrosive!
When did Yamaha start to use the green dot CCT? From what year? Im planing to buy a used FJR.
A big THANK YOU for posting this video. Your directions were perfect. I found it important to use a ratchet wrench with 5 degree (72 tooth) mechanism since the area is so tight. 2nd item is that the tight space between 8mm bolt and the tensioner was not sufficient to get the wrench onto the bolt. Needed a "thin-wall" wrench so I used my belt sander to grind down the radius of the ratchet wrench. Overall, slow tedious work but not technically challenging.
Did you have to drain the engine oil ?
No
How is the CCT lubricated?
Don't know exactly. I presume it gets what it needs from the oil system
Should the chain guides be changed also on my 215 000 km 2005 fjr?
Hard to say without seeing it. They are likely to be worn at that mileage. However, they may easily not be. But it's not a simple job and I wouldn't do it myself.
HI what sealant did you use for the gasket
I can't remember which sealant. I borrowed it from a neighbour but it was generic gasket sealant, just a smear.
Much as I abhor delving into the internals of an engine (somehow spoils the virginity) I will tackle this job now on my '05 thanks in large part to your video. One correction: the 'Cam Chain Inspection Cover' is actually the 'Oil Pump Cover' - better for ordering the gasket 😀
Thanks for the video Dan, I'm an 04 owner too, and looking at solving engine rattle.. I'm drawn to replacing the tensioner and appreciate your info... thanks.
Let us know how it goes
Hello Dan, I just completed the installation of my CCT into a 2005 FJR 1300 and I would like to say thank you for your video. It was still a little bit of a challenge. I found it helpful to also remove the clutch cover in order to get enough travel to use the 8mm wrench during the removal of the CCT bottom bolt. Beside that, everything went pretty well. My bike still had the original CCT (no green dot). Huge improvement!
Thanks for the encouragement. Any extra millimetres are useful when turning that 8mm in such s confined space! Well done.
instead of removing the cover, i cut my 8mm wrench to fit.
How can I visually inspect to see if my bike already has the new CCT installed without removing fairings etc.?
You need to see the dot. You can't do that without removing things.
@@motomoto2296 Not entirely true, you can look down alongside the right hand side of the gas tank and see the top of the tensioner. You have to push the rubber 'dam' towards the tank and shine a bright flashlight in to see it. Did that on my '05, got the original still...
Great video. Doing mine shortly. Thanks!
Hi, I know this video was done a while ago but I would just like to say a big thank you for helping me have the courage to do it myself. Cheers Dan much appreciated.
Thanks for the +1. Glad it helped
Thank you for posting this!
