I lived in L.A. for a short period of time and on my last night in town, we went out to the strip for a few drinks. I was a little drunk and sad that I was leaving-and lamenting the fact that I had never seen the inside of the BHH. So on the way home, I asked my Cali friend if he could stop there-I was going in. I marched into the lobby, after midnight I might add-and explained my dilemma. And the staff couldn’t have been any nicer…they showed me around the lobby area, gave me some matchbooks, postcards, pens and stationary. It was very sweet of them and a cool memory. And some day I shall stay there!
As a former employee of the BHH this was a nice walk down memory lane. I loved seeing all the familiar places, and they have not changed much, it's a classic. One of the things we were known for was our customer service, but i didn't see you interacting with much of the staff, and i don't know if that's post covid or things have just changed there. For example any time we had a new guest checking in we would walk them to the room to and tell them about the hotel then point out how to operate features in the room. It was a nice one on one experience that most hotels didn't offer. We would have let you know about the coffee situation and if you wanted, have housekeeping send up a coffee maker. I know it seems weird, but that was the level of one on one customer service we were going for, a real guest interaction instead of just a nameless faceless anywhere hotel that was not memorable. We had so many guests that said they felt like we were family, we knew them by name, and they knew their favorite staff by name. Ahhh, the good old days. Like i said, maybe post covid has changed that type of interaction :(
Does paying an Employee Health Benefit tax means that the hotel has somehow legally found a way to avoid paying their share of the employee's health insurance plan and they have instead passed that charge on to the public?!
Yes indeed. It's super cheeky/rude. Plus if you're not on top of things they'll add in their own tip and charge "tax" on that too (tax that doesn't go to the government as it's not a taxable charge )
There's no way I would ever be willing to pay a "employee health and benefit surcharge". That needs to be entirely done by the employer and not by the customer. Same, btw, applies to tips, which are so ridiculously high in the USA just because they fail to pay their waiting staff some decent wages!
Every business passes tax costs onto customers. Whether it is hidden in the the total cost or itemized as a separate expense doesn't change the fact that you, the customer,, are paying it.
Before you itemised the bill, I was reckoning at about $850. My jaw dropped when you gave the actual cost! It’s fascinating to watch you showing us the opulence of these places, Tim, but I still think you were robbed, especially the Employee Health & Benefit and BH Occupancy charges. If I stay somewhere here in the UK, I’ve never been charged anything like this. What a racket!

Me and her stayed at a five star gaff in Yorkshire a couple of years ago. Staff in top hats, pick up from the railway station, as much breakfast in bed as we wanted, three course dinner (one of which was halibut with caviar sauce) and wines. It was less than £500 for the weekend.
😢 I went to Washinton DC American 30 years ago, and the first time, I took a taxi to somewhere for the fee of $10 after pay in cash , the taxi door was locked by the driver, he then saying : You haven't paid tip yet! I was shocked about the tips paid by force in American. Disgusting!
Since 2021, Rates at the Beverly Hills Hotel have gone up over 60%, a deluxe room in 2019-2020 was $675 a night, now it's $1,600 per night. Crazy prices, even for Beverly Hills.
I really, REALLY enjoy this series. Chap is nice and down-to-earth. Kind - even when there is nothing good to say about a place, he is honest, but always tries to find a positive in the negative. (See Circus, Circus; Las Vegas). This is better than watching the news!😃
@@WalkWithMeTim Actually, I'm enjoying all the trips you take; The Ritz in London, The most northerly hotel (polar bears, reindeer), Circus Circus Las Vegas; I pass 'em on to friends and family so they can watch too. Better than the news (doom n' gloom). Oh - and yes - I subscribed.
As an American, my thought on seeing that room was, “that’s at least a $1200 room right there” so I wasn’t too far off. The breakfast was expensive - even as a New Yorker, seeing eggs and hashbrowns for over $24 makes my eyes water. But Jon Loviitz celebrity sighting? Priceless!
@@irenedavo3768$1200 is literally the LOW END for a Luxury Boutique Hotel like Beverly Hills Hotel. You'd prob have a heart attack if you found out the prices of the higher-end suites there. The vast majority of people who stay there, money is not an object for them; $1200/night is chump change for them. And if you're working there, the tips are AMAZING. Rich clientele tend to be VERY generous with the tips. I also like that they pay their employees a reasonable wage, well above minimum in addition to the tips. You could actually live off your pay here.
Thank you for showing us inside this iconic hotel, it's the closest I'll ever come to staying there!! 🤣 Fascinating to see what the hotel is actually like inside after seeing it from the outside countless times on TV & the big screen! As always Tim, fantastic and so entertaining!
I had the dough to stay in one of the bungalows there around 2002. The old inheritance thing. So I looked on line at all the pics of them. Oh my... I like the vibe at the hotel. You CAN just go to the pool and get drinks without staying there. (I didn't stay there) But the separate bungalows are supremely swankarooney. One or two have their own pools, a grand piano in one, and the 40's lux furnishings are really grand. Plus the old vegetation around the place makes it that much more cozy. So, DO look up the five or six bungalows there and see the pics. People stay in these for weeks...to write or escape. Very rich people...
That’s Jon Lovitz. He’s considered a legend in the comic industry. Starred in SNL, News Radio and more famously now, he owned a few comedy clubs too. Was never a major star, but pretty popular nonetheless with his peers.
The hotel is gorgeous but no tea or coffee in the room would be a massive disappointment for me! I love the convenience of making my own cuppa as soon as I get to the room on holidays. You even get this in 3 star hotels in Ireland.
They don't seem to ever provide jugs for tea & coffee in the US. In New York I asked for a kettle/jug and was told they don't provide them in a so called upmarket hotel. You have to go to the restaurant and buy. I only ever got tea/coffee making in a Holiday Inn. Take a mini boiler with you. Also the added taxes are on everything even in shops you look at the price but when have to pay there is added tax! That plus figuring out what to tip it gets stressful!
It's literally available upon request, why are yall not getting that? He didn't ask them for it, so he didn't get it. It's no additional charge to request the coffemaker to your room. Just tip nicely and that's it.
As an American, and a Californian, thank you for providing all of your insight into this historic hotel. I have wondered what it would be like. Usually do a fair amount of research and find a less popular hotel or B&B if I'm traveling, but WOW I love seeing what I can expect from these hotels. I love your videos and just recently subscribed and now I'm binge watching.
That banana leaf tapestry is giving Golden Girls vibes! Does anyone remember Blanche's bedroom? The lack of coffee and tea making facilities is ridiculous and would be a dealbreaker for me. As always, I adore your videos. Thank you!
I stayed at a resort in Missouri and there was multiple gift baskets and a fridge filled with drinks and their where notes stating "no extra cost, so enjoy at your leisure". You could even request a bus to help get to specific part of the resort and related attractions, no extra cost. Plus the website also shows the after tax prices straight up and no hidden fees. (The taxes where 8%, so not any different than sales tax here). I grew up in California, so I was use to resorts trying to nickle and dime you, so even though the place was not cheap, it actual felt like you got what you paid for.
I used to do a lot of traveling for my job. In the old days they would charge you every time you used the phone to make a local call, and God forbid if you had to make a long distance call. Also, every time your electronic room key was used to access the gym at some hotels. One other thing, I had no idea the Beverly Hills Hotel was that big. It looks so small from the street view.
I'm shocked by that room price. Your hotel room in Dubai's 7star was a palace compared to this, and for a similar price! Wow. Great content, thank you.👌🏼 ❤
Tim, I think the people who normally stay there are more likely to charter a private jet to the closest Starbucks than make their own coffee... "Making my own coffee, what a ghastly idea."
@@robinharrison3907 Very expensive experience. No value for money and dreadful looking. It looks like a swingers venue 😂😂😂. I prefer a more pleasant cheaper experience 😂😂😂😂
I have to confess that if money were no object, I would stay there in a heartbeat! In this setting, I wierdly love the Blanche Devereaux 'Golden Girls' wallpaper and all that peachy-pink decor - there are very few places in the world where that decor would look chic as opposed to achingly naff! Thank you for showing us these places. I was way out on the price; I was basing my guess on some very good London hotels, but then I noticed from your cup that it is part of the Dorchester Collection, and realised that I was out by a fair amount! But those taxes are a killer on top of everything else; I am all for paying taxes, but I would much rather they include it all in the rate!
Great video Tim, I wasn’t very impressed with the standard of your room, for that price I would expect everything to be pristine. . . As my late mother used to say… it’s all fur coat and no knickers! Lol

A blast from the past for me! Never stayed at the hotel, but ate more business lunches in the Polo Lounge than I could possibly count. It's a great old place but those add-ons to the room charges are outrageous. Thank goodness I never had to pick up a lunch tab!
The irony of 4 and 5 star hotels is the less likely to have coffee in the room! Many times it’s in the lobby in the morning but who wants to go get coffee there in the early hours!
As someone who grew up vacationing with my parents but will NEVER voluntarily pay this much, thank you for sharing these experiences! I feel like I’m not missing out for sure
I went to a very expensive hotel once and when I looked at my bill, they added on a resort fee. I asked what the resort fee covered and the person behind the desk said it was for the use of the pool. Well, the pool was outside and it was in New Hampshire during the winter. Obviously it was closed but I guess that didn't matter.
I stayed at the Sea Ranch Lodge last year, (a mere $500/night), and it had a super fancy coffee set up in the room. And unbelievable ocean views. It's a pain to get to, but worth it. But no Jon Lovitz.
I really enjoyed watching that, thanks Tim. My husband, son and I stayed in the Marilyn Monroe cottage of the BHH for two nights as a retirement treat in 2014. I had often wondered what the rooms/suites were like in the main hotel and I thought that your room 219 was fab. We loved the old Hollywood ‘Rat Pack’ atmosphere that the place still has with all the stars of yesteryear staying there and partying. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spent poolside. I didn’t swim, but my husband and son did and told me that whilst swimming under the water there was piped Frank Sinatra music that could be heard whilst under the water, how amazing was that? It is a very expensive place to stay, but what an iconic place. We loved every minute of it and I would certainly stay there again if I had the opportunity xx
That’s amazing, long time ago I discovered this hotel because of the song hotel california, on the album cover is the photo of BHH, a beautiful photo, I really want to go there one day, I think that from 2014 to 2023 not much has changed

I've been lucky enough to stay at the BHH several times. Almost like its own little world, it was tough to leave for meetings, shopping or even sightseeing. The staff were always amazing, the Polo Lounge and Fountain Cafe embodied old Hollywood. Loved the pool, and had quite a bit of late night fun in the Polo bar. The prices were always exorbitant, now more than ever it seems. Would I return? Most definitely!
That was a fun tour of the hotel. A few spaces I'd never seen before. I've stayed several times in the bungalows ( apparently the one Jackie O was fond of ). The exceptional staff/service is whats always impressed me most about the BHH
Your channel has come so far brother, it's awesome to see the disparity between you staying in a rundown Pontins to living it up in LA. Respect man, you deserve all your success and may you have so much more ❤
so good to see your detail when touring this hotel..I can see that in fact it is truly lacking in some maintenance (bathtub, etc) and comfort features (quiet fan, etc), surprised they are not paying very good attention to these important details..
First time commenting as only recently subscribed, yet watched your videos for ages, helped get us through lockdown. Love the US hotel series you’ve done! Next time you’re on the West Coast of the US you should check out the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. Very iconic hotel on the water. Also the Queen Mary in Long Beach CA. Be cool to see your thoughts of both!
I knew it was gonna be outrageously expensive when you said 7 dollars for a KitKat! Yikes! Nearly two grand for a one-night stay is insane but that's America, I guess! I'd stick with Holiday Inn type in the future, Tim, haha - fun video, though. 👍
I lived a short walk from this hotel when I first lived in the area late 1960's- Heather Court, B.H., a little house, I was 21-22 years old, a rental. Today it just sold for almost 2 million bucks! Off Coldwater Canyon Drive. Used to drive by this hotel every day.
We were in New York recently and got charged $30 per night extra on top of what we paid. We prepaid for the stay and still got charged a lot of extras. Its ridiculous.
That is bonkers money for a one night stay 😮 The room looked great and it was certainly a once in a lifetime experience to stay somewhere so iconic but I won’t be paying those prices anytime soon 😉 All the surcharges were absolutely nuts. I did love that banana leaf wallpaper in the corridors though, although I suspect you’d get fed up of it pretty quickly 😉

Nice place to go for early evening cocktails on a special occasion - they do frown on cameras in the dining room so we dine elsewhere in town. The overnight parking fee was outrageous but it’s a one off for most people. 😎

As an LA resident can I suggest you try the Roosevelt in Hollywood next time. It’s historic and iconic. I always take visitors there. I think it would make an excellent video.
just posting ideas - the shard london - 5 star really for city business travelers but - whats nice is that they deliberately employed local people and trained them up - expensive - views like Thames views cost a lot more than the normal expensive rate - top of building - afternoon tea - bar - restaurent - looks very nice.
The one thing I hated about the Beverly Hills Hotel was when the celebrities were staying there, or the stars came for dinner or brunch or for anything, you automatically become a second-class citizen; it's like your money is not essential, you can't go there because their VIPs I will never go to that hotel ever again.
That happens at other hotels as well, in an American owned hotel in LondonI showed my displeasure with this practise, when I checked out the next day, the bill was £ 0.00
The tax and various add-ons are something that America seems to love! And, of course, can add astronomically to the bill. Clearly, the types of people who stay there do not expect to have to make their own coffee! To the celebrities who stay there, the cost is probably pocket money to them. It is, without doubt, an experience to stay there but very much at a cost. Appreciate you doing so for us and providing an, as always, enjoyable video. (You were correct to tip the porter.)
They don't expect tips, Tim. A toffee would have been fine. Lovely room but ... the add-ons to the rate were outrageous. 'Resort fees' are something to look out for in the States and the Caribbean. Great video.
Usually they all expect tips here in the United States. I work at a Hotel Casino in Las Vegas and I hear complaints about people that don't tip on a daily basis.
I can't believe they let you film because of all the high profile people who stay there. The oranges were actually probably picked from the property too
My company, Robertson Property Group used to put on a Christmas banquet here every year. Everything is pretty much perfect including the public toilets!
I hear that in the US that it's all the taxes on top that is the killer as it alters from State to State, I guess we're centralised with taxation, but far simpler. £1503.20, luxurious definitely but overpriced, that price so only the super rich can stay there presumably and you😉. Excellent as always Tim.
Hi Tim ! OMG that's so expensive wow . They really rip you off over there. Beautiful hotel though. No wonder celebrities go there they can afford it . Oh and of course lottery winner's. Great vlog Tim thanks for sharing with us. Love to you as always Tracey 💕 xxxx
Great video Tim. Prior to COVID my office was nearby. I’d stop in for breakfast most days at the coffee shop and some days the polo when it was for a meeting. I’ve stayed in a bungalow and a guest room with a balcony and preferred the balcony room. Such an icon.
This hotel is SO MUCH BETTER than the Beverly Hills Plaza Hotel & Spa just down the road. The plaza has a super odd layout that requires you to carry your luggage up random sets of stairs.
Wowzers! 😮 that price tag at the end 😮 Oh well I guess you've ticked it off your bucket list Tim for staying there. I for one don't think it warrants that extortionate cost! Looking forward to your remaining vlogs of USA trip, especially Vegas! 🎉🎰🎲
I personally wouldn't want to spend that kind of money for one night only. I've stayed in a five star hotel in Rhodes for two weeks for less than that, and that was beautiful. And also when I went to Cyprus for two weeks for even less than that. My dream is to stay at the Plaza for three nights.
Great video as always Tim. Thanks for showing us how the other half live. You deserve some of the finer things in life after all of the hotel horrors. This hotel was so not worth that price tag blooming heck! Plus all of the palm tree wallpaper was giving Golden girls vibes, very dated
It's crazy that they charge guests an employee health and benefit fee while you're also expected to tip them as you go along. And that city tax is insane, I'm assuming it's proportional so that if I were staying in a $150 room, I'd pay about $20?
I totally agree. Isn't it the employer's responsibility to pay for their employees? I can almost understand the taxes, but paying the employee health and benefits charge is just wrong. All of the extra charges are one reason I don't travel in the U.S. anymore.I am an American, but I prefer to travel OUTSIDE the U.S., now.
that's a state charge, has nothing to do with the hotel. Even if you were ordering a delivery service like UberEats, you'd have to pay that tax. It woud be less because the price is usually less, so yet it is proportionate to the bill.
Keep doing what youre doing Tim,these travelogues are essential viewing and require a tv station to get involved to go to a bigger platform, hope your success continues for many years to come!!Regards to you good lady and son!!
I've stayed at the Waldorf in NYC where a standard room has coffee service in the room. When I complained about the room, and no place to plug in coffee maker except inside a small pedestal sink in bathroom (both times I stayed there) I got upgraded to a Tower room where they delivered silver coffee service at no charge.
Exactly...not every state has this and fact some states have NO taxes at all. So it pisses me off when people categorize a nation of 331 million documented people into one category. I found service in UK to be less than expected because tipping is included in many services whether it's good of mediocre.
Just started watching this video and I'm already stressed out about that exchange with the man who delivered the luggage. I find the tax and tipping culture very stressful and it honestly puts me off travelling to the US. On my last holiday (in Europe) I didn't carry cash at all! Thankfully I was never in a situation where I needed cash or had to tip, I think soon the fact that people don't carry cash is going to become a real problem for people who rely on tips to make up their wages.
@@utahdan231 everyone on England makes at least minimum wage, not like waiting staff in the US who are supposed to practically earn their wages in tips, this practice should be banned and they should be paid a minimum wage , that's not nice, not my observation.
A small tip is always appreciated. In London 12.5-15% is added but depending on where I am I will try add a little extra. You’d be surprised how well you are treated when you return.
@@bar10ml44 as a British person if I saw a service charge automatically added to my bill I would just ignore it just out of spite, because it's cheeky to automatically apply a service charge. In the UK anything under 10% is a small tip, I would NEVER tip 15%, I'm not sure what kind of service I would get by paying that much, most British people really aren't that demanding of waiting staff.

I really, REALLY enjoy this series. Chap is nice and down-to-earth. Kind - even when there is nothing good to say about a place, he is honest, but always tries to find a positive in the negative. (See Circus, Circus; Las Vegas). This is better than watching the news!😃
Wow thanks, I'll be back in LA very soon
Priceless!
1200 !
Too expensive
But it doesn't even have jacuzzi sized bathtub. just a tub like you have at home lol
I was pre-guessing $1200 as well. Shocking & sad about the fees/taxes. California is doomed without changes.
I stayed in Bangalow 1c for my 40th birthday for 3 nights. It's a lovely hotel. And yes, I stole the corkscrew.
Lololo
Why not ask? I’m sure they wouldn’t say no 😂
I grew up seeing The Beverly Hills Hotel from the outside. A thousand thanks for the opportunity to see it on the inside.
Thank you for showing us inside this iconic hotel, it's the closest I'll ever come to staying there!! 🤣 Fascinating to see what the hotel is actually like inside after seeing it from the outside countless times on TV & the big screen! As always Tim, fantastic and so entertaining!
its funny you see something that is so Hollywood and been in the movies and stuff .. and you then stay here its nothing special
You can still go in. Treat yourself to a cold soda at the pool restaurant and enjoy the experience for very little expense.

@sebastianniittyvuopio5017 Sorry, but Whitney died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, not the Beverly Hill Hotel.
Now THAT is a Hotel! 🌴🌸🌴🌸🌴
I’m so grateful you stayed here so I get to see it but don’t have to foot the bill! 😂 Thank You Tim, excellent vlog!
This really blows the plaza hotel away
Now, restaurants here in LA are adding fees besides taxes at the end. There is a rebellion against it.
6:04 I love Jon Lovitz. I can’t believe you referenced FRIENDS amongst his other work 😂
I had the dough to stay in one of the bungalows there around 2002.
Is it me, but I do love the white noise from the air con. Makes me sleep better.
If you could afford the tariff just order room service. They’ll bring it at a fun price😊
If you request coffee or electric kettle housekeeping will bring it to you for the duration of your stay, you never get what you don't ask for
They don't seem to ever provide jugs for tea & coffee in the US.
@@neferazureand also the tipping part then for a standard thing in this class of a hotel is ridiculous
Thank you!
When paying that Tariff what the heck is an an extra $15 bucks for room service coffee. Right??
Seeing Jon Lovtiz come out of nowhere put a huge smile on my face. I've been a huge fan of his for years. Definitely gave this video a thumbs up!
These people are not special at all.
YOUR opinion. @@annlyon.2040
I agree,he's such a funny,character actor.
In case you are wondering the tax is specifically for Beverly hills. It varies based on location, as a way to tax the rich.
I grew up in California, so I was use to resorts trying to nickle and dime you, so even though the place was not cheap, it actual felt like you got what you paid for.
lol because that was Missouri in the middle of freaking nowhere. Cost of living in Missouri is also way cheaper, so you ain't really sayin much there.
Wow. Great content, thank you.👌🏼 ❤
This hotel reminds me of the 80s I miss them
I stayed a the beverly hills hotel back in '07 and it was one the most memorable moments of my life.
Tim, I think the people who normally stay there are more likely to charter a private jet to the closest Starbucks than make their own coffee... "Making my own coffee, what a ghastly idea."
Lol
Great Video Bud 👍👍Amazing Hotel tax system annoying but a experience to remember 👍🥳
But those taxes are a killer on top of everything else; I am all for paying taxes, but I would much rather they include it all in the rate!
yes and we dont pay that in London for the hotel stay .. taxes I mean
I immediately thought Golden Girls too!
Actually that wallpaper was designed by Don Loper in 1942 especially for the BHH. It's called Martinifque.

The Polo Lounge is amazingly famous.. been there many times and always populated with big time celebrities..
Wow. This is something that most of us will never see or experience. Thank you so much for going, and sharing you trip with us 😊

The irony of 4 and 5 star hotels is the less likely to have coffee in the room! Many times it’s in the lobby in the morning but who wants to go get coffee there in the early hours!
Wow the price was astonishing and I think they just made up the extra charges. Great Vlog Tim.
I think so too! Lol
Resort fees are maddening. Esp when not obvious in upfront pricing.
I am shocked that they don’t have a coffee machine. Normally luxury hotels always have a Nespresso machine. Unbelievable
Another way to make money, although they did have complementary coffee from 7
£12 dollars for a coffee taken to the bedroom. Plus tips ... 😂😂😂😂
If you’re paying over $1800 a night, room service is loose change, so why make coffee..!
I think it is unusual for you to get tea/coffee making in US hotels. Take a mini boiler or mini kettle!

I wonder how much a bungalow costs?
I lived a short walk from this hotel when I first lived in the area late 1960's- Heather Court, B.H., a little house, I was 21-22 years old, a rental. Today it just sold for almost 2 million bucks! Off Coldwater Canyon Drive. Used to drive by this hotel every day.

(You were correct to tip the porter.)
at least they had coffee downstairs for freeeee
It’s only in California and NYC.
They don't expect tips, Tim. A toffee would have been fine.

Usually they all expect tips here in the United States. I work at a Hotel Casino in Las Vegas and I hear complaints about people that don't tip on a daily basis.

I can't believe they let you film because of all the high profile people who stay there. The oranges were actually probably picked from the property too

I hear that in the US that it's all the taxes on top that is the killer as it alters from State to State, I guess we're centralised with taxation, but far simpler. £1503.20, luxurious definitely but overpriced, that price so only the super rich can stay there presumably and you😉. While I like 5-star hotels my limit is about $500 to $600 (max). The bathroom was outstanding.
I totally agree with you about the taxes and other charges added on at the end.
Since I am paying for the employees' health benefits no tips!
that's a state charge, has nothing to do with the hotel. Even if you were ordering a delivery service like UberEats, you'd have to pay that tax. It woud be less because the price is usually less, so yet it is proportionate to the bill.

Actually there are apps for tips but I do not favor them as they charge a fee.
Not nice. I tip when in England , especially staff who doesn’t make much.

I'm sure they just do that for the tourists as you never see that in Mon tourist areas unless you are in a group of 6 or more people and then they will notify you when making your reservation. In the UK anything under 10% is a small tip, I would NEVER tip 15%, I'm not sure what kind of service I would get by paying that much, most British people really aren't that demanding of waiting staff.
