So many folks on here focused on work ethic and safety rather than the beauty of that lumber and talented teamwork. People just want to judge rather than appreciate. Sad...
No one is judging. Of course these men are talented and skilled but they could be doing it with planted, less rare, younger, less important timber than the old growth giant beauties
I’m looking at the beautiful grain on the wood and it is beyond beautiful and in my opinion it beauty to any home so if my compliment could be passed on to sawyer craftsmen I’d be very grateful thank you. 🙏
On the one hand, I mourn the magnificent tree that was felled to produce such a magnificent log - and hope that it wasn't one of those illegally harvested. On the other hand, it is incredible to see the dangerous labour that goes into producing such magnificent lumber, for production (potentially) of magnificent works of art, including exquisite furniture. I felled five smaller trees just today, and sadly, their fate is to be burnt as firewood, for heating our home in 2023-24. But I long to have the knowledge, and equipment, that would help me to turn such beautiful wood as this into functional works of art to enhance the lives of my family and, hopefully, generations to come.
Wow! I love the Green Safety Helmets. I used to see a lot them with AK-47"s shooting at me and other Americans back in 1967 and 68. Good to see them handling saws instead of AK-47"s.
That tree was over 1000 years old until a man decided to end it’s life. Just cut the old ones down. We will be lucky to be alive as a species in a thousand years. Redwood is beautiful, but did they have to cut down the very old ones. They have found they produce more seeds than young trees.
Hi ya all, if this factory was in America, the federal government would shut it down for many safety violations.!!!! I am happy to see one worker wearing "safety flip flops"!!!!!!!!

A hard hat wouldn't actually do much good, there is really nothing overhead, and if a big timber did your head the hat wouldn't help. Safety glasses for the guy running the saw would be wise, and steel toed boots instead of sandals would also be wise.
It looks as though it’s been dead a long while. The bark is missing mostly. The sapwood is stained and checked(cracked) It seems as it’s a salvage more so than a harvest. So don’t let your heart be disappointed. They are doing the right thing. I’m a veteran timber man of 45 years, now retired.
When hockey players started wearing helmets and face shields the sticks started coming up and there were more injuries. When you are working a sawmill in sandals and a baseball hat, you tend to work more carefully.
Does this not show that we really do not need all the health and safety legislation, life would be so much simpler and cheaper without it, workers should be responsible for thier own safety.
This wood cutting machine is actually more economical for low demand production. I have published some videos about frame saw machines and automatic production line, if you are interested, you are welcome to watch.

Thinking about its history, such big trees scare me a little. I'm still more used to sawing specially planted trees to avoid breaking the natural environment too much. I have published some videos, if you are interested, you are welcome to watch.
You're absolutely right to be concerned. A tree of this size is probenecid a few hundred years old. We're cutting all our old growth to make pretty objects to look at. And for other dubious reasons. It's criminal to see this oxygen giving natural blessing cut to pieces

Personal safety takes a back seat in this factory. OH&S in Australia would have a field day issuing fines.
Agreed - but it's probably an old adage: "Nobody with any sense would get in front of that blade!"

In the US, the factory would only work if the Union was paid off and the Democrats got their 10%.

It all depends on the job, not everyone needs long beams and boards.
