The stack of copies of The Twin Snakes is very relatable. I am still a collector and love my various fandoms, but it was an OCD-fueled mess when I was younger. I was not able to enjoy the things I really loved out of fear of ruining them, losing them, having them discontinued, etc., so I had to have a backup. It was compounded by a need to have one that was still “new,” both for collection purposes and because I did not trust myself to have and preserve nice things. Fast forwarding 20 years, it has been nice having some surviving treasures from my younger ages. But damn, did I miss out on fun new things by hoarding the favorites. It is a much easier impulse to control these days (especially with everything being so freaking expensive), but I still succumb to the occasional “yeah I should probably order two… just to be safe.”
Man I love Metal Gear Solid. I remember playing the original demo version on my friends demo disk from some magazine back in the day. It was so much fun. When it finally came out, I was totally hooked. It’s still in my top 5 favorite games of all time.
I’ve only been a Metal Gear fan since January, but MGS3 is probably like my fifth favorite game of all time. I genuinely love the series, I just wish I could play them all (haven’t played Peace Walker or 4 because I lack the hardware needed). Excited for Delta like CRAZY, and feeling the same towards the Master Collection vol. 2. The community is so chill compared to the two other communities I spend the most time in, Star Wars and Halo.

Grew up with Metal Gear Solid. I've recently revisited the series with my 9 yr old son. He's eating it up. He loved experiencing MGS1, LOVED the whacky finish to MGS2 including Raiden. And he LOVED LOVED LOVED the entire MGS3. We started MGS4 this morning. Can't wait to experience it again especially with him.
In my head canon, MGS Twin Snakes is Raiden going through the Shadow Moses incident in VR. Makes it much easier for me to accept the over the top cutscenes that way, since we know that the version of the Tanker mission that Raiden went through was different to the real one.

Here's my question, goes out to everyone else as well. What's the MOST you've paid for a USED copy of a game that was not available new anymore because you HAD to have it? Mine was Xenosaga Episode III for $75 on eBay. Why? I HAVE to see the ending to a story I'm invested in. The first 2 games were fairly cheap (less than $20). I know that's not A LOT but this was about 7 years ago now, so it would be a bit more today. (Goes for about $200 now)
I like your Halo story. I had no interest in getting an Xbox, but then a friend came and stayed the night with me and brought his and I played coop for a few hours and loved it. When we finally got our own, my brother and I sat down and played through the entire campaign in one 8 hour stretch.
I'm not sure if Jake's a fan of Spawn, but that kind of style of Batman game he wants (being creepily stalked from the criminal's perspective) is pretty much the exact kind of vibe they were allegedly going for with this new Spawn movie.
This is so wild because I just used Dolphin Emulator to play MGS:TTS a few months ago for the first time. It was so similar, yet so different. I want to replay the original since its been like 20 years. I personally enjoyed the flashier retelling of the story. Felt on par with the ridiculousness of some of the sequels such as 4.

Its one of my favourite games, despite its flaws, as I love branching narratives and the idea of the player having an impact on all aspects of the story. Just dropping in to say I love me some MGS Twin Snakes. My first time experiencing the original MGS was watching my older brother beat it on PS1. When Twin Snakes came out, I had my own Game Cube so I snatched this game up and beat it with haste haha.
A 3rd person open world Batman game set in the 70's or 80's with a fully populated Gotham. With gameplay mechanics of the player switching between Batman and Bruce Wayne. Managing Wayne Enterprises, Customizing cars, Batsuits, think RDR2, Cyberpunk that's a dream game for me.
Halo will always hold a place in my gamer heart. My friends were lucky enough to get an Xbox when it first came out with Halo, Dead or Alive and Fuzion Frenzy for Christmas, I got the PS2 with NHL and some other games, I’ll never forget the first time we played Halo tho 🤯. I fell in love with the story and the multiplayer although we’d only play local so it would be 2v1 every time. I was pretty good. Halo 2 will always be in my Top 10. Who remembers XBConnect from back in the day 😅

Hear me out. A Batman RTS where you either play as Batman and have unlimited resources but limited units, or one of the villains, where you have to pull heists and do various dastardly deeds to recruit henchmen and weaponry. As the game goes on you recruit Bat family members or team up with other villains. Different goals for different villains. Could be interesting.
I have a similar backlog problem, except I don't start them. I have Dragon's Dogma 2, Alone in the Dark, Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Persona 3 Reloaded and more installed that I haven't even started yet.
I grew up with OG and replayed it countless times I even still have my original copy that I bought in September of 1999. Having said that I just finished The twin snakes for the first time and Minus the few over the top cutscenes I prefer the remake. To me is a straight upgrade the original and a more immersive experience and a better way to experience the whole MGS Series if you plan for a marathon and play sequels back to back.
Attempt #4 of asking: do you or are you interested in moding games? Do you even have the time? Bought my PC last year and have been OBSESSED with moding every game I buy. To me, mods make great games amazing by allowing me to change any minor or major issue. Some examples of heavily moded games I'm playing right now are Skyrim, spider-man remastered, Rdr2, Days Gone, and Saints Row 2. Would love to hear your thoughts on this subject. 10:17 I have a weird history with Halo. Played a bunch of 1 and 2 multiplayer over at friend’s houses. First one I owned was 3 and liked. Weirdly fell in love with 4. Loved Reach. And I really liked 5. I just got my steam deck and had a hankering to play Halo 2’s campaign for the first before 1. I’m having such a great time with it. I think I’m gonna play ODST afterwards (even though I still have to play 1)
When I replay the Metal Gear series, I honestly replay both the original and TTS. I feel like the tone of the original is gritter, and I enjoy the emotions of the voice acting and script choices. That said, TTS has a great soundtrack and visual presentation, and it's a nice quality of life to have most of the features from MGS2. The problem is, some mechanics like FPV shooting and the tranq gun break some of the original's game design. Specifically stuff like some of the scripted fights and the Revolver Ocelot boss battle are too easy with being able to shoot from that perspective.
I like the theory that twin snakes was octacon's reinterpretation of what happened on shadow moses like how he's shocked how snake can take down a tank with a grenade 😂
I love Twin Snakes. I love the original too obviously. I have never understood the hate for Twin Snakes. Metal Gear is over the top, it always has been. I think it's much easier to go back to because it's just closer to modern gaming than the original and I'm sorry but Metal Gear is over the top anime shit and this game just brings it out.
I’ve said it a couple of times in these videos but I feel like the logical step for Batman video games is a Batman Beyond game. Something that doesn’t strays too far from the foundation set but the Arkham days but since Terry’s Batman is so different from Bruce’s the character would feel completely different, not to mention the setting and the movement. Soooooo this is how I’ve Always felt about the two games. This is how I think about it to “justify” the differences… Metal gear solid on PlayStation is through the eyes of Meryl. She is a solider herself so she sees snake as this rugged, amazing, things of legend, hero. The game is more down to earth… While the GameCube version is through the eyes of Hal aka otacon. He is a nerdy scientist and sees snake as a hero from a Japanese anime. Hence why the cut scenes are SOOOO over the top. Meryl and otacon and the two characters you can save. So Meryl’s ending and retelling of the story is MGS on the PlayStation while Otacons ending and retelling is MGS on the GameCube lol

Silicon Knights did Eternal Darkness before Twin Snakes then after Too Human they did X-Men: Destiny. Eternal Darkness is probably one of my favorite survival horror games, if only they had stuck with that.
The fact that we got two Metal Gear games in the same year was amazing for me. If memory serves me correctly, I played through Twin Snakes several times that year till Snake Eater came out.
I think a Batman game in the style of dead by daylight would be incredible. It would play kind of like old school Spy vs Mercs, and Batman would be your third person stealth hunter, while the crooks would be various styles of “bad guy” with special characters like Penguin, Falcone, Freeze, and Joker to name a few.

I’d be ecstatic for Metal 1-2 getting a remake as well as Twin Snakes. Even though Kojima isn’t involved anymore, MGS is the greatest series of all time (don’t @ me) and the first 3 games deserve a big budget uplift. Hey Jake. What do you think of game trophies/achievements? Do you collect them? What games became memorable to you due to how fulfilling and/or bs the trophies were? I remember how stupidly strict the requirements for MGS 2 and 4 platinums were. Spent an entire 2 days repeating each segment of mgs2 main story. Not to add the vr missions as well. Personally PS trophies give me a sense of fulfillment and makes me feel i savored the money i paid for the game. Glad even Steam made efforts to at least put a sound tone when you get steam achievements now. I wonder why Nintendo does not implement the same.
4:30 This is so me. I buy almost every major release. I love most of them, but I can finish almost none. It's a weird feeling and place to be in. It does make me feel bad in some ways, but I like sampling new games. To me, it feels like I'm looking for that game that will capture me like they did when I was little. When I couldn't wait to play it again, but I never find that anymore. I suspect it has more to do with me than the games though... Growing up sucks sometimes...
In relation to the question about Halo, (even though no one asked my opinion), to me ODST is the best of the Halo franchise and it's sorely underappreciated. It's Call of Duty-ish framework witch which plays with the concept of time throughout the story with time jumps following the lone ODST member separated from the rest of his squad who he's following in the wake of in the hopes of being reunited, gives it a very different feel from the rest of the franchise. Also, it's cool that you basically play the science fiction version of a Seal Team member (for all intents and purposes, a highly trained everyman) instead of the impervious super soldier that is a Spartan. It gives a bit of a human touch to what's otherwise the odyssey of a superhero. Not unlike Reach. In point of fact, I don't hear people talk about it a lot at all. Almost as if it's been forgotten. Which is kind of sad, because I genuinely believe it deserved better. The aforementioned Reach is a close second for me, followed by Halo Wars... I'm admittedly an odd Halo fan. LOL.

This is so wild because I just used Dolphin Emulator to play MGS:TTS a few months ago for the first time. It was so similar, yet so different. I want to replay the original since its been like 20 years. I personally enjoyed the flashier retelling of the story. Felt on par with the ridiculousness of some of the sequels such as 4.

Hey Jake, do you remember a game called Alpha Protocol? It was developed by Obsidian in 2010, and has gathered a cult following in recent years. Its one of my favourite games, despite its flaws, as I love branching narratives and the idea of the player having an impact on all aspects of the story.

Just dropping in to say I love me some MGS Twin Snakes. My first time experiencing the original MGS was watching my older brother beat it on PS1. When Twin Snakes came out, I had my own Game Cube so I snatched this game up and beat it with haste haha.

Controversially I really like the music for Twin Snakes....
A 3rd person open world Batman game set in the 70's or 80's with a fully populated Gotham. With gameplay mechanics of the player switching between Batman and Bruce Wayne. Managing Wayne Enterprises, Customizing cars, Batsuits, think RDR2, Cyberpunk that's a dream game for me.
Halo will always hold a place in my gamer heart. My friends were lucky enough to get an Xbox when it first came out with Halo, Dead or Alive and Fuzion Frenzy for Christmas, I got the PS2 with NHL and some other games, I’ll never forget the first time we played Halo tho 🤯. I fell in love with the story and the multiplayer although we’d only play local so it would be 2v1 every time. I was pretty good. Halo 2 will always be in my Top 10. Who remembers XBConnect from back in the day 😅

Hear me out. A Batman RTS where you either play as Batman and have unlimited resources but limited units, or one of the villains, where you have to pull heists and do various dastardly deeds to recruit henchmen and weaponry. As the game goes on you recruit Bat family members or team up with other villains. Different goals for different villains. Could be interesting.
I have a similar backlog problem, except I don't start them. I have Dragon's Dogma 2, Alone in the Dark, Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Persona 3 Reloaded and more installed that I haven't even started yet.
I grew up with OG and replayed it countless times I even still have my original copy that I bought in September of 1999. Having said that I just finished The twin snakes for the first time and Minus the few over the top cutscenes I prefer the remake. To me is a straight upgrade the original and a more immersive experience and a better way to experience the whole MGS Series if you plan for a marathon and play sequels back to back.

Bought my PC last year and have been OBSESSED with moding every game I buy. To me, mods make great games amazing by allowing me to change any minor or major issue.
Some examples of heavily moded games I'm playing right now are Skyrim, spider-man remastered, Rdr2, Days Gone, and Saints Row 2.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this subject.
P.s. are there any games that you'd live to go back to and mod? To possibly get rid if anything you didnt like or add stuff you wanted?

10:17 I have a weird history with Halo. Played a bunch of 1 and 2 multiplayer over at friend’s houses. First one I owned was 3 and liked. Weirdly fell in love with 4. Loved Reach. And I really liked 5.
I just got my steam deck and had a hankering to play Halo 2’s campaign for the first before 1. I’m having such a great time with it. I think I’m gonna play ODST afterwards (even though I still have to play 1)
The music and the voice actor that did the ninja. Killed it for me.
When I replay the Metal Gear series, I honestly replay both the original and TTS. I feel like the tone of the original is gritter, and I enjoy the emotions of the voice acting and script choices. That said, TTS has a great soundtrack and visual presentation, and it's a nice quality of life to have most of the features from MGS2. The problem is, some mechanics like FPV shooting and the tranq gun break some of the original's game design. Specifically stuff like some of the scripted fights and the Revolver Ocelot boss battle are too easy with being able to shoot from that perspective.

I love Twin Snakes. I love the original too obviously. I have never understood the hate for Twin Snakes. Metal Gear is over the top, it always has been. I think it's much easier to go back to because it's just closer to modern gaming than the original and I'm sorry but Metal Gear is over the top anime shit and this game just brings it out.
I’ve said it a couple of times in these videos but I feel like the logical step for Batman video games is a Batman Beyond game. Something that doesn’t strays too far from the foundation set but the Arkham days but since Terry’s Batman is so different from Bruce’s the character would feel completely different, not to mention the setting and the movement. Game Den made a great video about his pitch for a Batman Beyond game, you guys should check it out

Metal gear solid on PlayStation is through the eyes of Meryl. She is a solider herself so she sees snake as this rugged, amazing, things of legend, hero. The game is more down to earth…
While the GameCube version is through the eyes of Hal aka otacon. He is a nerdy scientist and sees snake as a hero from a Japanese anime. Hence why the cut scenes are SOOOO over the top.
Meryl and otacon and the two characters you can save. So Meryl’s ending and retelling of the story is MGS on the PlayStation while Otacons ending and retelling is MGS on the GameCube lol

My favorite overall entry is 7 (obviously), but my favorite music comes from 8, and gameplay from 10.
Silicon Knights did Eternal Darkness before Twin Snakes then after Too Human they did X-Men: Destiny. Eternal Darkness is probably one of my favorite survival horror games, if only they had stuck with that.

The fact that we got two Metal Gear games in the same year was amazing for me. If memory serves me correctly, I played through Twin Snakes several times that year till Snake Eater came out.
I think a Batman game in the style of dead by daylight would be incredible. It would play kind of like old school Spy vs Mercs, and Batman would be your third person stealth hunter, while the crooks would be various styles of “bad guy” with special characters like Penguin, Falcone, Freeze, and Joker to name a few.

What about a suicide squad game, but like Alien Isolation. So Batman is this unstoppable enemy hunting you. No boss fight, you can't beat him, you just have to survive and escape

I’d be ecstatic for Metal 1-2 getting a remake as well as Twin Snakes. Even though Kojima isn’t involved anymore, MGS is the greatest series of all time (don’t @ me) and the first 3 games deserve a big budget uplift. Twin Snakes is the only reason I still own a GameCube. MGS4 is the only reason I own a PS3

What do you think of game trophies/achievements? Do you collect them? What games became memorable to you due to how fulfilling and/or bs the trophies were?
I remember how stupidly strict the requirements for MGS 2 and 4 platinums were. Spent an entire 2 days repeating each segment of mgs2 main story. Not to add the vr missions as well.
Personally PS trophies give me a sense of fulfillment and makes me feel i savored the money i paid for the game. Glad even Steam made efforts to at least put a sound tone when you get steam achievements now. I wonder why Nintendo does not implement the same.
A co-op Batman and Robin game would be tight. Especially if it were more stealth based, like OG Splinter Cell co-op.

4:30 This is so me. I buy almost every major release. I love most of them, but I can finish almost none. It's a weird feeling and place to be in. It does make me feel bad in some ways, but I like sampling new games. To me, it feels like I'm looking for that game that will capture me like they did when I was little. When I couldn't wait to play it again, but I never find that anymore. I suspect it has more to do with me than the games though... Growing up sucks sometimes...

In relation to the question about Halo, (even though no one asked my opinion), to me ODST is the best of the Halo franchise and it's sorely underappreciated.
It's Call of Duty-ish framework witch which plays with the concept of time throughout the story with time jumps following the lone ODST member separated from the rest of his squad who he's following in the wake of in the hopes of being reunited, gives it a very different feel from the rest of the franchise. Also, it's cool that you basically play the science fiction version of a Seal Team member (for all intents and purposes, a highly trained everyman) instead of the impervious super soldier that is a Spartan. It gives a bit of a human touch to what's otherwise the odyssey of a superhero. Not unlike Reach.
In point of fact, I don't hear people talk about it a lot at all. Almost as if it's been forgotten. Which is kind of sad, because I genuinely believe it deserved better.
The aforementioned Reach is a close second for me, followed by Halo Wars...
I'm admittedly an odd Halo fan. LOL.
