When i watching gmod exploring videos, i like to Imagine that Librarian is some kind of cosmic entity who's exploring different universes, and while he's exploring, time stopped there, and all the living in this place is gone for the moment
7:15 Not sure how much you know about Half Life lore, but this is a very interesting observation, and it really mirrors what the combine do to humans that turns them into stalkers. Basically they cut out every organ and system that isn't needed for the lowest level of survival, replace what's necessary with just enough tech to keep them going, and turn them into a rotting utilitarian tool.
10:44 You're actually not entirely wrong with that comment. These large segmented walls are called "Smart Barriers", and at multiple points throughout Half-Life 2 and various other related Media/Games, these Barriers actually MOVE, and crush anything beneath them. They serve as a way to keep the Combine Cities separated into Zones, and to absolutely crush Resistance occupying buildings during uprisings. Just a bit of lore from a Half-Life Geek!
Half Life Maps have this weird ability to just feel extremely realistic while also feeling extremely dreamlike. The small bar as you walk in at around 4:45 for instance. There isnt much in it. But you can sense there should be something. Not only does it fit the fact that this is the basically post-apocalypse at this stage but it also works in a dreamlike setting since look at it. It resembles what a Bar should be like but the details are just gone. It has tables, chairs a literal bar but... thats it. It has all a bar needs, just the drinks are missing cause... ya drink them. Bottles and the like are just useless details right?
12:51 I actually feel a sense of reassurement that nothing like that would happen thanks to the fact that it's a Combine facility, I never thought I would find reassurement in The Combine but chances have it, that they've killed whatever threat could've been lurking up there
15:26 Mostly because most of the synths that fought humanity's various armed forces were brought back to the Combine homeworld after the war and what is left behind is just humans and some synths, like the Striders and Hunters. The Combine Soldiers are just augmented humans and the Elites are heavily augmented humans that are more machine than human at that point. The Metrocops are just humans in fancy gear with likely very very light augmentation.
7:05 I know, right? What a town looks like after the Combine sweep through is a lot like what my Unity projects folder looks like. One mega project that will never be done, and a dozen forgotten projects laying in ruin.
Thank you for uploading GMOD. I really use these kind of videos to relax and sleep to. I just move out my parents' house and sleeping alone tonight It's gonna be tough, but thanks to this video, I will fall asleep easier
There's just something so peaceful about a quiet, dark and snowy place. The sodium vapor lamp posts are my favourite. Thank you for uploading, Librarian 😃
if you like these cities, you should check out Kitty Horrorshow's Haunted Cities collections. They're not the same, and they're not in VR. Her grasp of atmosphere is phenomenal. EDIT: what the heck city are YOU living in in, presumably, America that's actually walkable???
Yes, that collection would definitely be right up his alley. Especially Lethargy Hill, I want to see his thought on the section with the scary angelic figures.
I was just binge watching your other Garry's Mod map exploration videos since I'm relatively new to this channel, and I absolutely love all of the content here.
These types of maps are always bittersweet for me. I love the atmosphere and the vibes, but they often feel hollow when they're empty of any real gameplay. Hope some of these gmod devs can carry these ideas over into a more full game some day.
you know just the other day i was wishing i could escape to somewhere wintery and snowy (cuz its summer and i live in a warm climate). thank you for the content librarian :)
48:00 i thought you were gonna say string up some lights and now im imagining fairy/string lights on the back wall which makes that room feel more inviting that it had been before
I seriously appreciate hearing someone else find snowy Gmod to be cozy. It's always had such a strong winter visual, to the point that I used to have a yearly trek into gmod christmas maps once we'd hit late November/early December.
I love your videos so much theyre so cozy to watch for some reason, like i love watching them around winter because i just see the snow falling outside my window and get under the covers and just binge your channel.
Love these gmod videos , I've been sick as a dog and I rewatch the playlist every night before I go to sleep. I've been doing so since the first gmod liminal space map hope to see you do more with gmod in the future
Nobody liked Batman Arkham Origins, but personally I loved it because it was a big city at night covered in snow - it wasn't abandoned, everyone was just inside for the night. I would explore it for hours on end with a first person mod because it was just so comfy adjacent.
The map of 35:28 to 54:00 gives me real chill. You see i live in [Insert Country lol] and more specifically in a small, really small town where everything is close by. Has a university student i usually had to go really really early in the morning to the bus station that was basically some 20 minutes on foot from my home. My home in the neighborhood was close to a road that had apartment blocks on each side and the road was in the middle. I had to go through the center of the town and circle around some houses that also had trees in dirt square grounds around the streets of the town. All of the street lights were on up until 8:00 and i had to go to the station at 6:00. In pure dark night sky, I had to gou through the same streets day after day where the only lights were the lamps of the street lights. I remember back then feeling so uneasy and eerie by crossing through the streets where, you could only hear the wind, the occasional cats passing by and the dogs barking far away- Besides that it was completely lonely small travel. Dark and fog in the winter that mad me feel i was completely walking a path to another plain of existence. There was this time i went to the station and i had to go even sooner to get in time for the bus since the road to the station was in renewal for some days, and i remember to cross through a completely abandoned block of houses that had broken and unpainted walls, windows were almost Non-existent and the wind would blow through it and make some sound like "Uuuuuhhhhh" that would always freak me out. But that day in specific when i was crossing that block i took an hour, why? I saw a strange light in my direction, it was weird at that time everyone or almost everyone should be in home, sleeping, confy in their beds and protected by their walls while I was completely alone adventuring through the blocks so i could get to my destiny. I was afraid that, somehow some bandit or worst, some druged/ drunk man have spotted me and wanted to do anything out there, we were all alone. I ran that day has fast has i could and for the first time in my life i felt like the road was never ending. When i finally got to end of it to follow the road that would lead to the station i felt like I was trapped in time, trapped in a void when i was crossing that block of abandoned buildings, the light, it didn't followed me. Everyday since then i had fear to go through that block again but i always questioned wether or not i had an illusion because of being sleepy and cold outside. That mao, you showed seems exactly like that block, and the eerie feeling came back to me when you were exploring. Of course that block has way more light than this abandoned place had since (it was abandoned!). But nonetheless i had flashbacks of my 3 years ago me walking that place.
0:34 that sound is when wind is very concentrated in one part to make a very whistle like sound so imagine very claustrophobic alleyway that a person can barely fit through having wind blow through it at a moderate speed of about 5 miles to 10 miles an hour it would make this exact sound
Hey librarian. Im just asking if you could do some more of from the fog. I do have an idea that could expand your kingdom. You could make R'leya into a lively city with villagers. To give them a bigger home for trading etc. I would love it if u did some more. Keep up the good qork though. Lovin it! 😊
The description of how the Combine will take over and operate a city is essentially that of the stalker, especially what was originally planned for their design in the beta. They stripped the human body to its absolute limits and tossed away anything non-fundamental to the structure or to be replaced, including all organs and limbs. their spines were held together with nothing but belts originally and much closer resembled the fast zombies, albeit with no headcrab, a proper neck and much darker brown coloration for a decayed and rotten appearance. I guess those unfortunate enough to unwillingly be forced to work under their rule, not even something you can truly classify as "alive" at this point, symbolize the oppression and surroundings of those who *are* alive are forced live under.
6:05 Heavily disagreed. Half Life 2 especially had several moments of sideroad structures that you could see were supposed to be something. Someone lived there and could live there again. The area around the big railtrack section with the train almosr running you over is my favorite for that very reason. A lone house right next to it. Someone lived here and there is a story but you will never know what story there was and who built it there. But your mind can go amok with ideas and interpretations of the life someone must have lived here.
I don't think half life 2 didn't have that. Its just because of the technology at the time they had to be sparingly with details so thats why half life 2 looked the way it did. Whete in modern day we can have detailed and atmospheric maps. But the barren city 17 also resembles desperate times as it has been picked clean almost compared to half life alyx which has stuff. But hl2 is in the future so i guess over time things were used or consumed or repurposed. Or even just destroyed. As the combine care not for extended luxery but only the bare minimum for an objective.
I went away this weekend for a job interview and MAN I really missed watching your stuff in my bedtime routine! I just got back home and I'm so looking forward to curling up in bed and watching this to unwind. Cheers!
hi librarian! i recently played a horror game called welcome to kowloon, about kowloon walled city, the densest city ever built. i think you would really enjoy it, and maybe even play it on the channel im sure you get a million requests like these so i get it also thanks for posting as often as you do, and for giving us something to watch. your videos are some of my favourites to watch before bed
8:11 i like to think there's more than 1 citadel, because kleiner suggested so by saying "linked citadel reactors" in half life 2 episode 1 during the whole blah blah speech for reference here's the lines : *The destabilization of the City 17 reactor has had repercussions that were not entirely unexpected, although we hardly dared speak this hope ahead of time. The destructive pulse forced a damper on the entire network of linked Citadel reactors. Thus, for the time being, I believe that all Combine portals have failed completely, as well as all communication systems based on that technology.*
Someone should make a night version of old cartoon maps, imagine walking around the regular show park, or bikini bottom at night in vr, would be the most crazy surreal experience ever
It has been 2 Years since you’ve made the video “Exploring Haunted GMOD Maps” and I’ve stuck around your channel for your creepy and comfy content since that video came out, so can you play GM_Construct but Haunted and DownTown Rp but Haunted but in VR?

Hey, if Alyx got to have "Zombine", you can have "barrifications".
25:40 - Easter egg on the bus - ancient Russian meme about "bus 410 that goes to hell". The bus sign says - "410 - From anywhere, to where needed"

It's mental the atmosphere source creators make in gmod maps with audio. Like the ambience is genuinely nuts

Hello… I’ve watched your channel for a while now and I got Garry’s mod! Thank you for being a inspiration for me playing this game. Thank you❤🎉
I feel like you'd be really good at level design, specifically from an art direction / world building angle.
I love atmospheric Maps
thank you for making such awesome content, Librarian!!
The atmosphere kind of reminds me of the Metro/dead space games.
36:50 let's try and do our best to fit in

Librarian is the type to gulp when he is in trouble
I was just waiting for that Dr. Breen bust to break. I couldn't believe it didn't break after The Librarian threw it from several storeys up.
'GMOD VR: Exploring the Housing Crisis'
