Your dad's connection to Seven was so beautiful. The way he still remembers his friend's name is so sweet. I think everyone has a past friendship like that.
That almost made me cry because what he is feeling is exactly the feeling Taylor is writing about 😭 so beautiful how this music can connect us, truly a sign of a powerful song/writer
I wish I could go back to when I listened to folklore and evermore for the first time. No record has come close to making me feel that way on first listen ever since.
You touched on something that Taylor does so well, that gets misconstrued. When fans say she’s an incredibly lyricist, people often expect Leonard Cohen’s cryptic poetry that will need to be deciphered to understand or something like that, but her lyrical prowess comes in the form of immediately drawing the listener into the situation and making them feel exactly what she’s describing, whether they’ve ever been in that situation or not. She’s absolutely brilliant in that regard.
Exactly. I feel like she’s tried to do something like the Leonard cohen cryptic stuff on ttpd, and while some of it worked don’t get me wrong, I think Taylor is at her best when she’s describing a universal feeling in a new context or through a new leave.
Honestly that whole song itches my brain. One of my other favorite lines from the album is from the same song. “I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere” Taylor went off in this song lol.
there really is a reason why August is a popular song despite not being a single. that song is pure pop perfection and definitely one of the bests in her discography. even jack antonoff says it is one of his fave productions ever
Finally someone mentioning 'I think your house is haunted your dad is always mad and that must be why ~~~' When I heard the bridge for the first time I cried for 10 minutes. Seven heals my childhood wounds. It's the song that made me obsessed with TS.
Seven broke me when I first heard it. I married my wife in 1972 and one of the first things she disclosed to me was how her father would best her up when he drank. She would try hiding in a closet but he knew where she was and she could see him through the slots in the door taking off his belt and she knew that at any time he would open that door and just whip her mercilessly. He's dead now.
Everyone else is commenting on the music but I just want to say that it is so incredibly touching and inspiring to see a dad and son duo who clearly love and respect each other so much. it's good that you guys start with this album. as a long time swiftie (was 14 now I'm 28) i'd say that folklore and evermore is her magnum opus as an artist. it perfectly blends her country side with her experimental pop side, lyricism is very poetic and mature, and the storytelling is the most cohesive in concept.
Can I ask for your opinion on TTPD the anthology? I feel like most swifties say every new album is her greatest album, so I trust your opinion more because of this comment tbh. :)

Honestly, Mr. Dads inital though of "she's not gonna make it" is very valid. Her singing voice at the begining of her career ... not good. But, she's put in the work, remained true to her diaristic, confessional songwriting and it worked
Totally agree. I was kind of the same. I'm Gen X, so I ignored her for many years thinking she was too commercial country and too pop and I hate Top the 40 in those genres. Then folklore and evermore came out during the pandemic. Fast forward to now and I've been obsessed since then. She DEFINITELY put in the work to improve her singing. And I've learned that her lyrics really speak to me from different phases of my life. She's really got something for everyone.
Yeah it was a valid opinion at the time but Taylor really worked on her vocals and now she can definitely sing like ppl always try telling me she can't sing and then I realize that they probably only heard her singing from years ago and are basing their opinion off that but ppl need to realize that if they hear her sing now, they will see that she can actually sing
Taylor has slowly grown on me this year. I found her a hard artist to get into just because of the sheer abundance of her discography. Now that I have listeners to all of her album I see why so many people follow her so closely. The way she weaves lyrics and concepts together is incredible. She definitely has mediocre overplayed songs but she also has an abundance of lyrical masterpieces. I would definitely recommend Evermore next.
I totally agree that you don’t need to know the lore to understand her songs, but knowing the label drama makes “and when you can’t sleep at night, you’ll hear my stolen lullaby” hit so much harder
The guitar on invisible string has a raised bridge which makes the cute plucky sound, I think if you watch the Long Pond version, you can see the guitar there, Taylor and Aaron talk about it there. It's a beautiful sound!!
the taylor hate comments are crazy 😭😭😭 just watch another video bro, its not that hard. they do music reaction content, taylor makes music, get over it.
i haven’t filtered comments by newest so i’ve only seen positive ones, but yeah if anyone doesn’t like taylor swift that’s fine just skip this video we post like 6 videos a month usually all different genres so lots to choose from if taylor isn’t for you
oh please swifties are such babies literally everyone gets dragged + your fav is both problematic and less than mid. “get over it” take your own advice maybe idk .
Taylor still owns Holiday House! Edited to add: Taylor has a few songs where she talks about making decisions that led to harm in a relationship or led to a break up. They don't always get as much traction as her radio hits do, but they're out there. One popular one is called Back to December. She certainly doesn't see herself as perfect in relationships which I think is a common misconception. Loved this reaction, thank you! I feel like Evermore is another album in this vein that you should listen to next. Its my favorite of Taylor's!
To your point about not being impressive live when she was starting out in my opinion Taylor Swift arguably wasnt that great vocally then. Her voice sounded thin and weak often. But her voice has improved soooo much because its matured over the years. Her writing, melodies and hooks have always been solid.
Yeah, I left a comment about this, too. Her voice was weaker and untrained, but she wrote honest, catchy songs about being a young woman and had great charisma, worked her ass off, and had the help of her parents. But it was always her songwriting that made her special: she's been writing her own damn good songs for over twenty years. AND she's obviously put forth major efforts in learning how to use her voice to its greatest extent. Love her.
I agree. I wish fans would just acknowledge that even now, her voice is not why she’s famous. She’s a skilled lyricist, and there’s nothing wrong with that. She has a very pleasant voice that carries her lyrics. Thats great!
Her voice was strong as a young kid, then hormones happen and can affect teen voices. If you sing through the hormonal changes the voice strengthens. I really feel like this happened with Taylor. I do lots of musical theatre with teens and I see it happen all the time
Nearly all of Taylor's lyrics have universal appeal. That's a key to why she became so beloved. But she's ALSO been writing for twenty years and uses her own life for inspiration. She's built a world with the accretion of hundreds of songs, allowing this intertextuality that rewards knowledge of past songs and personal details. So it's just an additional layer of the myriad potential meanings, not "THE" meaning.
It's so interesting that 'the 1' made Kevin want to cry, because I find the song so calming and relaxing. It's a song about a lost love, but the music and the tone say to me that 'everything's gonna be okay.' It's a song I listen to when I'm feeling anxious and need to relax.
A song being calming, relaxing, and feeling like "everything's gonna be ok" is precisely why it might make someone cry. Those thing aren't mutually exclusive.
i've noticed that men really love this song! it's interesting bc i wouldn't say it's the saddest on the album but for some reason when I show folklore to men they always connect with this one over others!!
Never watched one of these videos before but I saw a reaction to folklore on my feed and clicked... I love your dad's takes and opinions and would love you to show him evermore, he would adore that too!
So happy to see this! And yes her vocals have improved tremendously in the 18yrs she has been doing this. Just saw her in Miami last week and it was the best time of my life. Amazing show!
YES. The Long Pond Sessions are a must. They give amazing insight to her songwriting on this album, and there some juicy extra musical moments/outros. And just to see the chemistry between Aaron, Jack, and Taylor is amazing!!
What is so great about Taylor's music are the connections between the songs. Throughout her career, she created a sort of Tay-lore. One of the examples is the 'Peter losing Wendy' line. In a later album, there is an entire song called Peter that plays more on the idea of losing someone because of their refusal to grow up. There are a lot more instances and if you continue covering her, I think you'll notice some.
really cool that you picked up on some of the English verbiage -- her partner of 4 years (at the time) was British, so makes sense that some of it seeped into her vocabulary
If you watch Long Pond Studios Sessions they talk about how they connected on these songs. He would send her different little songs he wrote and she would get inspiration from them and write lyrics. A lot of the songs were written like this because they couldn’t be together due to COVID. So yes he helped write it which is why he has a writing credit. But she wrote the lyrics to his tune. He also said that he was impressed are the choices she made and they surprised him.
its kind of funny. seven is my favourite taylor swift song, maybe one of my fave songs ever made and im rlly not a taylor swift fan (i just like folklore and evermore) but the reason i love that song so much is cause to me it sounds like my childhood best friend singing to me. i had an abusive step dad and thus never wanted to be home. i pretty much lived with her family (they lived right next to us) and it felt so nice seeing a normal family. our summers were the best. and we're not friends anymore now but whenever i listen to this song i think of her and i still feel so much genuine love for her. this song feels like both a love letter from and to her. i rlly miss those times which is weird cause i dont miss my step dad or the home we lived in but the world me and my best friend created was so magical. i cant listen to this song without crying (sorry for any mistakes english isnt my first language and im too lazy to check right now lol)
I grew up listening to Taylor but fell off for awhile with her music, but I remember this album and Evermore being just what I needed in that 2020 lockdown era and she's been killing it since! Love seeing people explore the depth of her discography for the first time!
OH MY GOSH. i don’t call myself a taylor fan, this is my favorite taylor album! the bluegrass and country jazz roots and her story telling is SO PHENOMENAL to me on this album. every song genuinely felt perfect. writing is perfect. production is perfect. vocal performance is perfect. it’s just GREAT MUSIC and i love it! i love this album. and loved this video!
This was really enjoyable! Just on a side note: you seemed happy to hear her sing from an apologetic perspective in Betty but then realised she was the boy in that one lol. But she written songs where she admits to her own wrongdoings before - most notably in Afterglow, The Great War and in Happiness where she says they both made mistakes. She's not the self-righteous man hater that casual listeners sometimes accuse her of being.
Folklore was also my entry point into Taylor's music in 2021. Within 6 months she and her music surpassed all of my life-long passions, was heartbroken when my concert in Vienna was cancelled. Folklore is my favorite piece of art I've ever experience, a timeless classic. Great reaction! Looking froward for more Taylor. Much love from russia.
I think it'd be interesting for you guys to react to Halsey's new album The Great Impersonator. It was written when she thought she was dying and it'd be her final album. It's one of the most personal and sad albums I've ever heard. I don't think it's getting enough attention since she's not a huge artist. Her last album If I Can't Have Love I Want Power was also amazing but it didn't do well in the charts either.
seven is actually my favourite taylor song of mine, its very personal and always reminds me of these beautiful people in my life and the melodies that just go along with it are somehow even more personal and just idk they make me starstruck for some reason, it is the song i listen when i need to sleep. I LOVED LOVED YOU DADS REACTION, ANALYSIS AND STORY HE RECALLED. this was such a beautiful reactionnn
You guys commented on how great the production was, that was mostly the work of Aaron Dessner, who also produces and plays many instruments for The National. Speaking of, you guys should definitely give some of The National’s stuff a listen!
Yes! The National are one of my favorite bands! (I think I've seen them live 6 or 7 times!) And for me this album just sounds like Taylor's voice singing The National songs. Even the songs with Justin Vernon (though they're lovely) aren't unique for me since he's collaborated with The National before and Aaron specifically in The Big Red Machine.
@@josepha133 she doesn't write most of her own stuff, and tell me how her writing is good ? It's the same song over an over again and most of lyrics are 1 liners that don't even connect to the next line
@@racci_fakes5951 she writes ALL of her music. You're seriously delusional if you think she writes the same song. 22 and Soon You'll Get Better, the same song? The sheer stupidity.
I’m one of those people who was a huge taylor fan as a child, got back into her in 2020 and immediately as i fell my fandom with her slipping, but I saw her live in new orleans and she played my favorite song from speak now (and in her discography) and I’m becoming a superfan again! Folklore is the era where most people sat down but I was stood the entire time. this album is absolutely something special
oh my gosh, I've been waiting for this for a long time. how I wish I could go back in time and listen to folklore for the first time. This album is a masterpiece and establishes Taylor as the great artist that she is, refined, incredible songwriter. For me folklore is Taylor's best album, and of course we owe that to Joe Alwin, Jack and Aaron too. It was with this album in 2021, that I went from listening to some songs, to being a true fan of hers, and understanding the albums and the magic behind the compositions and the music. Happy to see this from 🇧🇷
This is one of those eternal albums. By that I mean that the first time you heard it it blew your mind but at the same time it felt familiar as if it had always existed. And going forward no matter how many times you hear it it never loses that impact....
folklore is an absolute masterpiece, you see a different side of Taylor in this album and it’s truly beautiful. The emotion in exile from both artists is something words can’t even express.
I loved watching your dad relate and, dive into the music with a fresh perspective and, with a unique appreciation for the production, lyricism, vocals and everything all at once… Would love it if you guys were to react to more Taylor Swift album and hopefully “ The Lakes “ bonus track from folklore would be a great way to start on this journey ❤❤❤❤
Epiphany will forever be the underrated gem in this record. This album came out at a time when most of us needed an escape from the nightmare we were living. Lost several family members to Covid and had a nephew working the Covid hall and through the darkness of it all, Folklore gave me a sense of peace and warmth that still soothes me to this day. the taylor hate comments are crazy 😭😭😭 just watch another video bro, its not that hard. they do music reaction content, taylor makes music, get over it.
i haven’t filtered comments by newest so i’ve only seen positive ones, but yeah if anyone doesn’t like taylor swift that’s fine just skip this video we post like 6 videos a month usually all different genres so lots to choose from if taylor isn’t for you
@@turningthetablesplsss do evermore next

oh please swifties are such babies literally everyone gets dragged + your fav is both problematic and less than mid. “get over it” take your own advice maybe idk .
@alolaninetales everyone else here is just celebrating taylor's discography and here you are acting like a victim in your free time lmao
No matter how many album Taylor would release, I'll always go back to this album.
her best album till this day.
is evermore
Is Reputation 😊

Taylor still owns Holiday House! Edited to add: Taylor has a few songs where she talks about making decisions that led to harm in a relationship or led to a break up. They don't always get as much traction as her radio hits do, but they're out there. One popular one is called Back to December. She certainly doesn't see herself as perfect in relationships which I think is a common misconception. Loved this reaction, thank you! I feel like Evermore is another album in this vein that you should listen to next. Its my favorite of Taylor's!
I feel like at this point she isn’t allowed to sell it lol
@@madeleinehoward3418she’s gotta put in her will to turn it into a cat sanctuary when she dies. 😂
love the vibes, guys! there's a song called "the lakes" on the deluxe version of this album, think you'll love it!
that turned out to be like one of my favorite songs of hers and maybe of all time. its so so beautiful
lakes/seven superiority
@@gillian6918 so poetic and incredibly thought out!
@@Cookiimusic what a vibe! me personally, i'd have to go with "the lakes" and "last great american dynasty"
Ohhhh do Evermore (deluxe version) next because Right Where You Left Me has to be included! Loved this! :)
Love her.
The rerecord of Speak Now is proof of that!
So it's just an additional layer of the myriad potential meanings, not "THE" meaning.
yes, exactly!
It's so interesting that 'the 1' made Kevin want to cry, because I find the song so calming and relaxing. It's a song about a lost love, but the music and the tone say to me that 'everything's gonna be okay.'
It's a song I listen to when I'm feeling anxious and need to relax.
A song being calming, relaxing, and feeling like "everything's gonna be ok" is precisely why it might make someone cry. Those thing aren't mutually exclusive.
Well…this song also makes me cry. So
i've noticed that men really love this song! it's interesting bc i wouldn't say it's the saddest on the album but for some reason when I show folklore to men they always connect with this one over others!!
@@allisongormley2195 very interesting….well I am a man and can confirm this one is a tearjerker for sure!
Never watched one of these videos before but I saw a reaction to folklore on my feed and clicked... I love your dad's takes and opinions and would love you to show him evermore, he would adore that too!
Oh we need evermore next it has some of her best writing
this side of taylor have existed from her early albums. she just more refined now. you can see this album sprinkled across debut, fearless, speaknow,
The twisted in bedsheets part had me crying with laughter
i was never a swiftie till THIS album came out and my whole perspective was changed.
oh you will absolutely LOVE evermore.
So happy to see this! And yes her vocals have improved tremendously in the 18yrs she has been doing this. Just saw her in Miami last week and it was the best time of my life. Amazing show!
so excited to see you guys doing this album! probably one of my faves of all time. there’s just a magical energy about it that draws me in.
Okay now I *need* them to watch the Long Pond sessions, and hear her talk about her songwriting process.
YES. The Long Pond Sessions are a must. They give amazing insight to her songwriting on this album, and there some juicy extra musical moments/outros. And just to see the chemistry between Aaron, Jack, and Taylor is amazing!!
I BEG
would love to see this
Yes and live taylor is the best
Thanks for noticing that tragic part of seven, i always cried everytime i heard that part from the song, it's just so heartbreaking 😢
No one understands this! Thank you for saying it ❤
really cool that you picked up on some of the English verbiage -- her partner of 4 years (at the time) was British, so makes sense that some of it seeped into her vocabulary
this feels like christmas
this is lowkey huge
i always hoped to hear kevin’s thoughts on this album specifically, i’m sooo happy rn
i’m very glad a spoken word version of thug story is in the same video as this folklore reaction
One of the best bondings a father and a son could have. Subscribed!
Evermore will be great to see in the future
Aaron wrote Invisible String… he played the guitar part on his IG about 18 months before he got together with Taylor. Love what she did with it.
This whole album makes me feel like I’m reading such an emotional book. 😩😩 her storytelling in this one hits in the feels. 💔
PLEASE WATCH HER LONG POD SESSIONS!!! it goes into depth with how she wrote the album
i have been waiting for this for YEARSSSS
its kind of funny. seven is my favourite taylor swift song, maybe one of my fave songs ever made and im rlly not a taylor swift fan (i just like folklore and evermore) but the reason i love that song so much is cause to me it sounds like my childhood best friend singing to me. i had an abusive step dad and thus never wanted to be home. i pretty much lived with her family (they lived right next to us) and it felt so nice seeing a normal family. our summers were the best. and we're not friends anymore now but whenever i listen to this song i think of her and i still feel so much genuine love for her. this song feels like both a love letter from and to her. i rlly miss those times which is weird cause i dont miss my step dad or the home we lived in but the world me and my best friend created was so magical. i cant listen to this song without crying
(sorry for any mistakes english isnt my first language and im too lazy to check right now lol)
Back to December from Speak Now too!
@@dessieangel1021 yes!
Also Guilty as Sin 🫣
Folklore was also my entry point into Taylor's music in 2021. Within 6 months she and her music surpassed all of my life-long passions, was heartbroken when my concert in Vienna was cancelled. Folklore is my favorite piece of art I've ever experience, a timeless classic.
Great reaction! Looking froward for more Taylor. Much love from russia.
yay! one of my top 3 Taylor albums! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This album is also my entry point to Taylor! she really put her heart and soul into folklore and evermore!
YES! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, I'M SO HAPPY
oh to hear folklore/evermore for the first time
I would pay so fucking much money to experience them for the first time again
Oh my god.. I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!! THANK YOU!!! Ahhhh so excited!!
I think it'd be interesting for you guys to react to Halsey's new album The Great Impersonator. It was written when she thought she was dying and it'd be her final album. It's one of the most personal and sad albums I've ever heard. I don't think it's getting enough attention since she's not a huge artist. Her last album If I Can't Have Love I Want Power was also amazing but it didn't do well in the charts either.
this is my superbowl
seven is actually my favourite taylor song of mine, its very personal and always reminds me of these beautiful people in my life and the melodies that just go along with it are somehow even more personal and just idk they make me starstruck for some reason, it is the song i listen when i need to sleep. I LOVED LOVED YOU DADS REACTION, ANALYSIS AND STORY HE RECALLED. this was such a beautiful reactionnn
You guys made me love folklore all over again 🫧🤌🏼😩🩶
so happy you guys liked it!! exile is such a dad song i knew he was gonna love it
You guys commented on how great the production was, that was mostly the work of Aaron Dessner, who also produces and plays many instruments for The National. Speaking of, you guys should definitely give some of The National’s stuff a listen!
Yes! The National are one of my favorite bands! (I think I've seen them live 6 or 7 times!)
And for me this album just sounds like Taylor's voice singing The National songs. Even the songs with Justin Vernon (though they're lovely) aren't unique for me since he's collaborated with The National before and Aaron specifically in The Big Red Machine.
Yeah, would love to see them react to the albums of The National!
I'm convinced that those who criticise Taylor for her songwriting lack listening comprehension skills.

Folklore is the era where most people sat down but I was stood the entire time. this album is absolutely something special
i totally relate to loving her a kid, falling off, and then getting back into her in 2020!! what was the speak now song that was your favorite?
@@katiegrace9036 Haunted! my fav taylor song ever

oh my gosh, I've been waiting for this for a long time. how I wish I could go back in time and listen to folklore for the first time.
Happy to see this from 🇧🇷
love this album SO much
I think Kevin would really enjoy watching the folklore long pond studio sessions
Highly recommend the long pond session for the patron!
As a Swiftie I think a fun listen after this would be Midnights and then you could go back and listen to Evermore for the holidays
OMG I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO SINCE I FIRST MET THIS CHANNEL
I loved watching your dad relate and, dive into the music with a fresh perspective and, with a unique appreciation for the production, lyricism, vocals and everything all at once… Would love it if you guys were to react to more Taylor Swift album and hopefully “ The Lakes “ bonus track from folklore would be a great way to start on this journey ❤❤❤❤
i would do anything to listen to this album again for the first time
amazing reaction, loved seeing your dad reacting to it, i was so sure he'd enjoy this album. PLEASE bring evermore next!!!!
Evermore is my girl though!
You’ll love the Folklore Long Pond sessions!!!
I’ve prayed for times like these 😭
To me, Folklore is a miracle. And, incredibly, I think the Long Pond sessions version of it is even better.
if you did folklore you literally have to do evermore now.
