ITS HERE!!! Thank you guys for being here to experience this with me! Again, the full reaction is on my Patreon (link in description)! What should we listen to next from Taylor?⬇️
I think we should dive down to her roots and experience Fearless (Taylor's Version of course) next. This is the first album that made her name rise to where she is now!
GIRL, I beg you. STOP SAYING YOU'RE SLOW !! YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST INTELLIGENT MUSIC REACTOR I HAVE WATCHED, the way you put the pieces together, the way you get her vision & the situation that she paints with her lyrics. UGH. not to mention all of these are on FIRST LISTEN !? you are SO intelligent it's not even funny at this point. so stop saying you're slow please x. xoxo, gossip girl !! p.s track 5 on an album are her most vulnerable tracks. e.g So Long, London. my tears ricochet. You're On Your Own, Kid. How Did It End? & FUCKING TOLERATE IT p.s when you relisten to dorothea, keep 'tis the damn season in your mind.
Exactly what I’m thinking. She deserves so much more success with the channel. All those big reactors don’t even come close to such detailed and meanwhile not excessive reactions.
Okay I'm only up to Gold Rush and NeeCee impresses me every single time. It's so satisfying watching her put the pieces together and come out of every song with a solid interpretation. Keep it up girl!
there was an April fools podcast about No Body no crime talking about a fake murder mystery and I was SAT and thought the story was based on an actual murder for way too long..
@@lindsaygarcia3650seriously! I was listening to that Crime Junkie episode and for a bit I was like “THIS IS WHERE T SWIFT GOT IT!!” I was embarrassed by the end lol
notice how track 7 on folklore, "seven", starts with "please, picture me in the trees // I was too scared to jump in but I was high in the sky" and track 7 on evermore, "happiness" starts with "honey, when I'm above the trees, I see this for what it is"
In Tolerate It she ends the song with "i sit and watch you " It means that she never really escaped and the "break free" part only happened in her mind 😢
And guess what comes at 10? Emily Dickinson's birthday day which is on Dec 10 ..and the album released on Dec 11. Ivy is said to be inspired by the secret love affair between Emily & her childhood bestfriend Sue Gilbert who was later betrothed & married to Emily's brother.
Ivy is my favourite song of hers ever. It sounds so pretty but then every single line is SO deliberate. One thing about Ivy is "promised to another" makes me feel like its the olden days and she was sold off to someone else. Then you research the Ivy plant and learn about how difficult it is to get out once it's there. AND "hes going ti burn this house to the ground" but the house is made of STONE and filled with IVY. Two things that dont burn. Thats the tip of the iceberg i love this song so much. Like cheating is not good but it's literally not my fault that her songs about cheating are such bangers.
@@kaf10_beauty if I'm not mistaken, ivy was in the soundtrack of season 3 of the show "Dickinson" on Apple TV, which is, as you can deduce, about Emily Dickinson
@@kaf10_beauty I commented about this more in depth already, but yes, I came across a video of her speaking about Emily Dickinson in reference to her inspiration for Evermore & her "quill" pen songwriting. Ivy became very obvious this was the main one she was speaking of, and what it was about once I heard her say that. Brilliant stuff and makes me love the song even more. Sue and Emily's secret love affair is a classic secret sapphic love story that happened alot during that time period when it was life endangering to be gay. I love that song so much!!
I think the reason a lot of people found it so hard to move on from joe-taylor was because of how beautiful her version of him in her songs for him were. Also, I'm so excited you're finally reacting to evermore!!
@@jwalkinlife please say your joking because Tolerate It is the most clearly written song about Joe ever. It’s very clear that’s how she was feeling and the parallel between the man she’s singing about and Joe are quite clear. Tolerate It gets real damning when you start to listen to Midnights and understand how their relationship dynamic worked. I’ve said this a million times, but the pandemic is the reason they stayed together for so long. Defending Joe just isn’t something us fans should be doing when it’s clear that he wasted 6 years of their lives for a relationship he didn’t want to be in. Taylor sounded miserable while dating him, he kept her closed off and made it so she shrunk her group of friends. I don’t know where this Joe narrative came from that he’s such a sweet and kind soul when in actuality he was neglectful and controlling.
Same! My initial thought was he had this extra money now so he just bought new tires for the truck like it was time to upgrade them. Not because he left them wherever the body was.
Coney Island actually has multiple references about different exes and things mentioned in other songs which might be why you thought you heard something familiar."Were you standing in the hallway… with a big cake, happy birthday" - Jake Gyllenhaal. “Did I paint your bluest skies the darkest grey?” - John Mayer. “And when I got into the accident… The sight that flashed before me was your face” - Harry Styles. "But when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name” - Calvin Harris. And “Do you miss the rogue who coaxed you into paradise and left you there” - Tom Hiddleston. Hope this helped!
I always loved how "the rogue who coaxed you" sounds like "the roller coaster"- what with Coney Island being a theme park with rides and another lyric mentioning the merry-go (round).
Hey, 2 fun fact! 1. The national’s lead singer Aaron Dessner produces Folklore, Evermore, and multiple songs on Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department. Alongside Jack Antonoff, Aaron is her other main producer 2. Marjorie’s voice in actuality in the background of the song!
ohhh ok read the responses to your comment. I was just about to say, “holy toledo THAT singing voice was Aaron’s?” 😮 no disrespect meant to Aaron; just that his speaking voice would be astonishingly different than his singing voice, if so! (Crazier things can happen , of course, but still 😊)
"cowboy like me" is very intriguing. It's about two con artists who hook up with rich old folks (sugar daddies and mommies, lol) solely with the intention of exploiting their wealth. They meet at a marquee-a large tent for outdoor events such as weddings and parties, which the narrator describes as a "tent-like thing" to reflect their guise of an upper-class attendee at the social event. They serendipitously fall in love with one another, although the narrator doubts the sincerity of their partner's love, which Taylor references with the disputable Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The closing line, "I'm never gonna love again," is ambiguous and is generally interpreted in two ways: either they forsake their notorious frauds and commit to their relationship, or the narrator, despite being aware of their partner's congenial yet deceitful nature, is ultimately deceived or abandoned (I believe it's the former though). This is one of my favorite songs of hers; I think she pretty much nailed everything with this one: lyrics, melody, vocals, production. P.S. Marcus Mumford sings background vocals in this song! 🤠
Cowboy Like Me, a song on Taylor Swift's Evermore album, is a song about two con artists or swindlers that established to tricking others with love. But when the two cross paths, they intended to use their same tacktick to each other. In the end, they found out it wasn't really a trick at all. Taylor 's songwriting is immaculate on this song, it really shows her talent on making love songs like Cowboy Like Me. It's my favorite on the album to be honest hahaha
i think cowboy like me is generally the same as you said, but its about 2 people who use others for love, money etc.. and when they finally meet they use their tricks on eachother but the genuine feeling of love is one sided. the lyrics that make me think that are “now you hang from my lips like the gardens of babylon, your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con” she’s essentially saying “was this even real? did you ever exist? there’s proof of you here but where are you now?”
And then when you find that it is most probably about Matty , a con artist. "She has swindled him into all of her poems". And then in loml, "a con-man sells a fool get-love-quick" scheme.... mindblown becaise this was also my favorite but now i know why... :D
tis the damn season and dorothea are connected - the starlet comes back to her little old town and the old flames rekindles. You should read the album prologue on the internet, it really ties her albums together into a story more or less :) loving your reactions, by the way! ❤️
@@aakarshsrivastavaait depends. She did an AMAZING interview with Zane Lowe from BBC Radio for Evermore. He has to be one of the best musician interviewers of our generation. He is so incredibly good 😊
us fans speculated that the line "I sit and watch you", in tolerate it, indicates the fact that everything she wrote in the song was all in her mind, what she was thinking about the relationship. In fact, even at the start the song is introduced with the line "I sit and watch you". I hope this helped (love your reactions)
Interesting! I never heard that interpretation. The way i interpreted it is that she was saying "what if i break free? Believe me i COULD do it, but i just sit and watch you" like she wanted to leave but in the end she couldnt bring herself to do it. That being said, i might interpret it that way because i related to the song and thats something i've personally experienced
Ooooo that’s a great observation!! I’ve always just thought that “the beginning of closure is messy” as in, what comes before you reach the point of closure can be a tangled mess, and it can be uncomfortable - hence seeking closure
My interpretation is the clanging represents the other person reaching out. The piano is her trying to just move on with her life, and then here comes this person bringing everything back.
PLEASE DO LOVER🙏🏼🙏🏼🙇♂️🙇♂️ also champagne problems is a story that she made with Joe about college sweethearts that had two different plans one night; one to end it and one who brought a ring. so she didn’t actually leave someone at the alter its made up characters which also relates to folklore bc she has the teenage love triangle.
allegedly it was for rory gilmore when she turned down logan ( she also said that folklore and evermore is about imaginary characters and rory and logan are imaginary not real people)
“I hope she’ll be a beautiful fool” is from the Great Gatsby, and it’s not mean spirited - it’s hoping somebody will be naive and believe the fairytale, instead of seeing through it and getting hurt. Also Tis the Damn Season is about going back home for Xmas and seeing that ex - the road not taken.
"'tis the damn season" is about someone who is already making a name in like the celebrity industry, hence the LA reference. The song is about going back to your hometown and meeting like an old flame and both of you discover that love again but also aware that it won't be same. The male perspective of the song is "dorothea" and tells the story from his side. Watching someone you care achieve her dreams, even if it means you being left behind. Then you reminisced the time you shared together, and now she's back in her hometown and you see each other again (even if it's only for the weekend😭). Ahhhh!!! It's so wholesome at the same time so sadd. It's like every coming of age movie I've ever watched 😭. Also the story being "potentially" inspired by 'Normal People' just makes me love both songs even more.❤
What I love so much about this song is how the protagonist’s perspective about their ex changes as the song continues. And how the lyrics of “it’s the damn season” and “road untaken” become almost longing by the end. For me, it ends in this precious moment of saying that I know this is only lasting for a moment, but let’s just pretend, while I’m here in your bed, that this our reality and lasts forever. Shes sensing the heartbreak that’s about to come back into her life, but let’s just enjoy this moment while we have it together. Sigh.
“Gold rush” actually refers to the actual gold rush during the 19th century when there was a rapid influx of seekers for gold deposits in the US. She wrote this as an analogy to the guy she likes who was desired by many, and how she doesn’t like the feeling of having to compete with others. Just like in the actual gold rush.
38:29 listen, I think you are the first person I’ve watched who knew that she was referencing the tire track thing 😆 TayTay was also obsessed with True Crime during the pandemic soooo ❤❤❤
Taylor even said No Body, No Crime is for the True Crimes fans! One of my favorites on Evermore. She’s such an amazing storyteller. I’ve been saying for years I need her to write a book because it would be amazing!
Omg I truly think you're gonna love RED (TV), it's Taylor's favorite album (from herself lol) and honest it was the album for the folklore girlies before folklore was released, so im pretty sure you're gonna ADORE it like all of us. btw i loved this video sm, evermore is my favorite album
tis the damn season in my mind is a play on "tis the season" like for christmas, the song is talking about maybe an old hometown boyfriend or someone you would hook up with when you go home for the holidays! also the Gold Rush was when EVERYONE traveled west in the US to get gold from california, because she always refers to him as "gold" it's actually so clever to say everyone is flocking to him as if it's the "Gold Rush"
I think Speak Now is a rly good album to react to next once ur ready. It was the first album she made that she wrote entirely by herself. At the time, a lot of her hate was geared towards the belief she could not write her own songs by herself (which is stupid cuz most songs from artists have co-writers), she couldn’t sing etc. so she decided to prove the hate wrong and completely did it by herself. Plus the album is just SUPER good lol
Still love ttpd! The anthology is my shit. More so than the first part although that one grew on me too. Definitely still one of my fave taylor albums. Hope you enjoyed evermore. About to watch the reaction now. Cabt wait for you to dive into more taylor! So many gems still waiting for you😌
Coney Island: the bridge mentions different albums/relationships she’s been in. Tree line by the gold clock- love story. Big cake in the hallway, happy birthday - red/jake g. Paint your bluest skies the darkest gray- speak now/dear John. Got into an accident- out of the woods/harry styles/1989. Walking up to the podium definitely references Calvin Harris, he never wanted to give her credit or mention Taylor at all.
champagne problems is, like, two people that had different ideas for their relationship: one of the wanted to propose and the other wanted fo break up - it's fantastic how you caught up on that so fast cuz i had to listen to it multiple times before i got what was happening
ivy is actually inspired by Emily Dickinson who was a lesbian poet, and the song even references poems she wrote to/for her lover Sue, who was married to Emilys brother!
the way you can analyse lyrics so well on your first time of listening is fascinating im literally obsessed with ur channel 😭😭 im so glad you listened to evermore because its probably my favourite album ever and i love hearing your interpretations on it!💓
Ivy is inspired by the poet Emily Dickinson, a distant relative of Taylor herself. Emily has a love affair with Sue Gilbert, who is married to Emily's brother. There is a lot of documentation between Emily and Sue, letters that confirm the great love they had for each other, but it was forbidden. That is why this song is so beautiful and poetic, it is inspired by one of the greatest poets who ever lived. The Apple Dickinson series used Ivy in a beautiful intimate scene between Emily and Sue, being approved by Taylor I think it was a confirmation on her part.
i love evermore because it's such a great album about closure, every song is about the ending of something, how things ended up after something shifted in her life and/or characters. and it makes even more sense coming after folklore that is mostly about reminiscing things from the past and what they could've been. these albums together are a great testimonium about grieving the life we could've had without the pandemic and accepting the life we got because of it. perfect masterpieces. love your reactions, thanks for being in this journey and enjoying her work, it's incredible how you get most songs at first listen!! 🫶
I’ve been a swiftie for 16 years and evermore is my favorite Taylor album. I needed it a lot after I lost both my grandmothers on the same day two years apart (2018 & 2020). It took me probably round 20ish listens of Marjorie to stop crying. This album is so special, it’s encapsulated a very specifically dark, but hopeful time in my life. There’s only 4 songs off the entire album I don’t usually listen to and everything else I absolutely love. I can’t wait for more Taylor albums and I’ll be subscribing to the Patreon very soon! I love watching NeeCee’s journey with Taylor’s music! Keep it up icon!
loove ‘tis the damn season! It basically refers to old flames, where the girl had to leave their small town thus ending the relationship. However, whenever she visits for the holidays (thats why it was titled ‘tis the damn season), she would always have encounters (maybe even a more physical one) with this old flame where she is left to wonder if she chose the right thing leaving their town, and him.
What is interesting about “Tolerate It” is that it was already a repeated cycle. She had already been second-guessing about this relationship, thinking of leaving but in the end she still end up giving this man a chance “I sit and watch you” in the end of the song and in the eras tour where she sat back. Ironically, tolerating the man’s half-ass treatment to her. It adds another layer of sadness on that song
i love your interpretation of coney island! there are a LOT of parallels to her older songs, and that just makes the song so good with the concept - coney island, a former paradise. it will always be my favorite taylor swift song ever
I honestly can’t begin to tell you how much I enjoy your reactions❤ You somehow always manage to give me a different perspective on the same song…you’re one of the best reactors on UA-cam girl!
So on happiness, the thing you mentioned about "7 years in heaven". Taylor said that evermore is about "endings". I do think that she was able to explore aspects of the breakdown of her relationship with JA under the guise of storytelling -- I think lots of this album is exploring sorts of "alternate endings" to a relationship, both happy and sad, something I think she must've been thinking about a lot around this time. It's a little controversial to talk about cos everyone disagrees, but the thing is nobody knows for sure. I for one think this album is such a beautiful reflective piece, and my absolute favourite album of hers.
At the time, bc there was so much speculation about this song, she stated it was about her hometown bestie Abigail's divorce. Taylor deflects at times what a song is really about (Tolerate It I am looking at you) but I think this might be true. She was in Abigail's wedding and she could have been writing from Abigail's perspective.
@@TheCinder24what's interesting is she very likely wrote these about other people or were made up stories, but now post TTPD it feels like subconsciously she identified with various elements (ending with Joe, thinking of Matty) probably exacerbated by pandemic depressions (for an extrovert like her it would be rough to be isolated) come through. Obviously that's just an interpretation and I could be super wrong, but that's the feeling I get.
Marjorie gives me chills every single time. Never fails. The opera singer isn't just any singer. It's recordings of her grandmother. She did that. Not only did she write the tribute, she included her voice. It's such a beautiful tribute. Watching it in the Era's tour was something else.
Happiness was written for her best friend who was going through a divorce. It’s not from her own experience (which may also explain why the song has such an insightful message - because it’s advice for her friend).
I was so ready to scream "AND I PULLED YOUR BODY INTO MINE EVERY GOD DAMN NIGHT NOW I GIVE FAKE NICETIES" lmao. Like SO ready. Anyways hell yeah this was so fun. I think what you listen to next depends on what you're in the mood for. Debut / Fearless are country. Speak Now is country/pop and Red is """country""/pop. Red is also a very long album that tells the story of 1 relationship. 1989 is full "upbeat" pop. Read the tracklist, I guarantee you'll know a handful. Reputation might be a good bet, the Taylors version isnt out and may not be out for months so it'll be interesting for you to listen to it now and be able to hear the changes in the TV when it comes out. It's heavily EDM /electropop. Lover is her very in love pop.
I have a theory that 'Right where you left me' is actually from the point of view of Este, as a ghost after her cheating husband unalived her. When you listen to it again with this idea in mind, it all makes sense lmaooo but maybe I'm just tripping
Tis the Damn Season is the clearest song to me: reconnecting with an old ( ex) love in your home town, where you broke up because you were leaving. But you’re in town for the holidays and you reconnect or hook up for the weekend with only the familiarity of your past love connecting you ( nostalgia) and they make a deal of no future just the weekend, just a temporary visit to their shared past.
Marjorie is even on the track when taylor says i think you are singing to me now you can hear marjory singing in the background its the opera sounds you called out but thats actually her
TTPD is a weird case of an album that just keeps getting better and better with each listen. It has so many hidden sounds and lyrics. It is rapidly climbing to become top 5 of best Taylor albums
Champagne problems=first world problems. Also love your reactions started watching you since the Folklore reaction. You're so smart while piecing all the parts together, love your insights.❤
I'm convinced you're the best music reactor on UA-cam, seriously. As a diehard Swiftie of over a decade, you pick up on things SO WELL on first listen, sometimes literally better than I even do having all the context of her past albums and relationships, lol. Thank you for making these videos, they're so fun to watch! I think **Speak Now (Taylor's Version)** would be a great next listen for you. It's her third album, originally released in 2010 and the rerecorded version was released in 2023. It's her only album that is entirely solo-written (meaning she wrote every word on the album with no help from cowriters) and is kind of the transition album between her early "fairytale/girl-next-door" image and her more mature approach to relationships. It has some storytelling-based songs (Speak Now, Never Grow Up, Timeless) as well as some of her most gut-wrenching lyrics ever (Dear John, which is my favorite in her entire discography, Last Kiss) and I really think you'll love the variety! (Hint: Dear John is the precursor to Would've, Could've, Should've on Midnights; they're about the same relationship with her different perspectives over the years.) I also think Speak Now will give some good context for you BEFORE you go into her 4th album, Red (Taylor's Version). Red is a fan favorite so I see that everyone's requesting that next, but trust me - you will appreciate the pain and heartbreak of Red way more once you've heard a little more of her romantic history leading up to that point.
To expand, I think a great order (assuming you're continuing this series... please do!) would be: Speak Now (3rd album) -> Red (4th album) -> 1989 (5th album) -> reputation (6th album) -> Lover (7th album) And then come the newer ones that you've already heard! I really feel like listening to them in release order would help you understand the trajectory of her career and romantic life much better than just jumping from one to another - Ex. The breakup detailed in Red hits even harder having the context of how her Speak Now relationship messed with her head. The albums' themes are somewhat interwoven with each other as she gradually transitioned from country to pop. Of course, that still leaves her first 2 albums, but tbh they are much more country and a little more teenager-y/high school centric. Absolutely worth a listen, but you may not click with them as instantly as you have with her newer stuff.
Just started the video, can't WAIT!! But yeah I didn't like TTPD much when it came out, but it's definitely grown on me. And next you should react to Red! I would say Reputation, but wait until Taylor's Version comes out for that.
gurl can you please react to "the rise and fall of a midwest princess" by chappell roan,i think u r gonna LOVE IT. if u r not sure you could at least give her newest single a try "good luck, babe". If you like the single i would strongly recommend listening to the album. Chappell is such a great writer, performer, vocalist and she is authentic (her mv are amazing as well).
I feel like tis the damn season is kind of a christmas story like those christmas movies where the girl comes home to her hometown and meets her past lover and they start dating again (call me babe for the weekend) and then instead of the happily ever after she is back in la and thats kind of the ending at least thats my view of the song
I’ve watched a lot of TS reaction videos, and you have the most perceptive takes I’ve seen; you actually understand her lyrics (the vocabulary and metaphors) and make connections between the songs for the thru-lines for the track order, all of that. Thanks for seeing why people appreciate her poetry. I’m 50 years old, I have a total of five college degrees and teach at a community college, and I appreciate her artistry. I am not a kid, and she doesn’t write for kids, she has a poet’s mind. You follow her train of thought and that’s refreshing, so thanks again.
Girl, you are amazing, the way you dissect everything and tie it together and GET IT RIGHT almost immediately is so crazy (in a good way), I love your reaction and looking forward to seeing more, cause I been waiting!!! And I was at the edge of my seat waiting for the Champagne Problems reaction and tolerate it, also ivy, and Marjorie - my favourites
Please react to 'All too well: 10 minute version' You'll Love it so much!! Taylor has poured all her emotions in it and has told such a beautiful story ❤❤
I think someone might have already said it, but I'm just retelling again. Dorothea and Tis the damn season are related. Dorothea being the perspective of the hometown lover and dorothea being the pov of the Hollywood star. As well in Marjorie her grandma's voices could be heard. Additionally, Taylor was born in Reading, PY. But her family relocated to Nashville, I think in her tweens. Also NeeCee, I recommend you read the album's prologue in Genius or somewhere. just to get more perspective of what she's singing. Looking forward to more videos:)
i rarely commented under any videos but i REALLY REALLY love your reaction and interpretations!!! as a swiftie, i always appreciate these kind of reactions THANK U!!! my own thing when it comes to the closure sound is that it is supposed to be awkward, uncomfortable and a lil bit tense because the pain this person leaves you is just agonizing and you just haven’t fully moved on and you said all of that out of spite so your point that she’s totally lying about not needing closure is very very on point with my thing LOL thank u so much for this!!! i hope you will explore the rest of her discography. it is just so amazing for my literature heart ❤
It's so interesting revisiting this album after TTPD. I did not realize how many songs from this time were about Joe. I think Ivy is mentioning Matty too. I also believe that much more of her songs from Folklore were based on her life but she wasn't ready to disclose all of that yet so telling us that many were fictional prevented us from connecting the dots.
My favorite album ... I was a Rep girl but then I had a tough winter and fell in love with Evermore. The song Evermore is my soul-song. It doesn't something wild to me each time I listen ... especially the live version in the Eras Tour - speechless.
Great reaction, a suggestion for the next album, you could do a poll to see which album to do next, or since you have done the last four, go backward to the beginning, Lover, Reputation, 1989, Red, Speak Now, Fearless, and self-titled Taylor Swift.
REQUESTTT FOR SPEAK NOW TV YOU’LL LOVE IT IT’S MY FAVORITE ALBUM AND UGHHHH ITS SOOOO UNDERRATED! My favs are innocent, better than revenge, haunted, and castles crumbling
"coney island" is one the most specific song on the album, and at the same time it's also very vague. Like you will get the picture but it seems like puzzle pieces you're trying to connect. And I think that that's the point of the song. Both of them were 'lost in translation' (pun intended) and don't really know how their relationship ended. In both verses, it's mostly questions about the possible reasons of the deterioration of the relationship. Then the bridge ties it all together. They go back-and-forth about moments or situations that they never showed up for each other. Like you had plans to this and that and because of the lack of communication and trust, you both never showed up for each other because you both thought that the other won't show up. "Over and over, lost again with no surprises, disappointments, close your eyes." It keeps happening and you're both unaware of the pain you're causing each other and get disappointed every single time. 💔
I think next you NEEED to do speak now. It’s very different to the folklore vibe but it’s soo magical and cute and it’s the first time in her career when we get to see her incredible songwriting ability. She was just 19 when she wrote speak now and some songs are just so honest and….enchanting
I'm stuck in a TTPD loop. I'll listen to other artists here and there every now and then, but I find myself going back to TTPD all the time. My opinion hasn't changed from my first listen, I still think it's my favourite album of hers to date. I love your lyric breakdowns looking forward to this one!
I’ve always thought that closure is a little “off beat” because a beautifully composed track that matched the rest of the album would, in fact, provide the closure the other party needed. She didn’t want to give them that.
ITS HERE!!! Thank you guys for being here to experience this with me! Again, the full reaction is on my Patreon (link in description)! What should we listen to next from Taylor?⬇️

This song deserves a short movie so much it hurt it still hasn't gotten one.

Girl I find it so impressive how quick you catch on to what she's tryna tell us!!!!
In Tolerate It she ends the song with "i sit and watch you "
It means that she never really escaped and the "break free" part only happened in her mind 😢
Yeah because we know she stayed with the one who was tolerating her for several more years!! 😢 “holding tight to your quiet resentment” 😢
DON'T YOU DARE 😢
As a Swiftie, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone get the lyrics of her songs so well, so deeply, on the first listen. Love your Taylor reactions! ❤
When she said “I Wish You Would” 👀👀👀👀❤
I WAS THINKING THIS
Probably not going to enjoy so much of 1989 but we have to make her get to it
RIGHT?????
She's foreshadowing her own future in Taylor's music... I was like: 😶😲🤪
It’s interesting that Track 10 of Folklore is Illicit Affairs while Evermore is Ivy.
@@Azarath_Metrion_Zinthosshes also RELATED (distant) to her🤭🤭🤭🤭
Taylor and Emily Dickinson were 6th cousins, AND Emily Dickinson was born in 1830.
Oh the Matty of it all 😂
When Tolerate It’s opening lyric matches the closing lyric & you realize it’s a loop where she never leaves 😭
The story seems to somewhat match up with Emily Dickinson, who potentially had a relationship with her brother's wife.
OH I SAT!! GIRL DO SPEAK NOW…ITS A CAREER HIGHLIGHT

I completely agree with this!
i love no body no crime AND I HAVE NEVER REALIZED WHY HE GOT NEW TIRES THIS IS WHY WE NEED YOU IN THIS COMMUNITY 🤩

@@nathanfortun5768 Oh- I thought maybe he ran her over so he had to replace his tires after the murder🤐
Omg I never realized this 😭😭😭😭
I always loved how "the rogue who coaxed you" sounds like "the roller coaster"- what with Coney Island being a theme park with rides and another lyric mentioning the merry-go (round).
Hey, 2 fun fact!
1. The national’s lead singer Aaron Dessner produces Folklore, Evermore, and multiple songs on Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department. Alongside Jack Antonoff, Aaron is her other main producer
2. Marjorie’s voice in actuality in the background of the song!
Aaron is not the lead singer of The National, that's Matt Berninger
the nationals lead singer isn’t aaron
ohhh ok read the responses to your comment. I was just about to say, “holy toledo THAT singing voice was Aaron’s?” 😮 no disrespect meant to Aaron; just that his speaking voice would be astonishingly different than his singing voice, if so! (Crazier things can happen , of course, but still 😊)
Aaron is their guitarist
Wait when is Marjorie’s voice? I’ve never noticed it
"cowboy like me" is very intriguing.
It's my favorite on the album to be honest hahaha
same
My favorite too!!!! 💖
Marcus Mumford on the track is icing on the cake! 🎂 🥮
i think cowboy like me is generally the same as you said, but its about 2 people who use others for love, money etc.. and when they finally meet they use their tricks on eachother but the genuine feeling of love is one sided. the lyrics that make me think that are “now you hang from my lips like the gardens of babylon, your boots beneath my bed, forever is the sweetest con” she’s essentially saying “was this even real? did you ever exist? there’s proof of you here but where are you now?”

us fans speculated that the line "I sit and watch you", in tolerate it, indicates the fact that everything she wrote in the song was all in her mind, what she was thinking about the relationship. In fact, even at the start the song is introduced with the line "I sit and watch you". I hope this helped
(love your reactions)
Interesting! I never heard that interpretation. The way i interpreted it is that she was saying "what if i break free? Believe me i COULD do it, but i just sit and watch you" like she wanted to leave but in the end she couldnt bring herself to do it. That being said, i might interpret it that way because i related to the song and thats something i've personally experienced
Also at the eras tour at the end of tolerate it performance, she first does this dramatic act and by the end she just sits and watches him
@@ATLA99 i like your interpretation too, and i can relate to it a lot ngl. Maybe these 2 interpretations are both right, like they are merged together
@@ange1. yes, i was thinking of that too
That banging noise in Closure somewhat represents "big machines" ... and her old record label is called "Big Machine Records" .
I've always heard them as big machines breaking down. Which even more so connects given the situation.
PLEASE DO LOVER🙏🏼🙏🏼🙇♂️🙇♂️
also champagne problems is a story that she made with Joe about college sweethearts that had two different plans one night; one to end it and one who brought a ring. so she didn’t actually leave someone at the alter its made up characters which also relates to folklore bc she has the teenage love triangle.
I think it would be cool for her to react to lover after she listened to TTPD because they are basically opposites. 😂
allegedly it was for rory gilmore when she turned down logan ( she also said that folklore and evermore is about imaginary characters and rory and logan are imaginary not real people)
“I hope she’ll be a beautiful fool” is from the Great Gatsby, and it’s not mean spirited - it’s hoping somebody will be naive and believe the fairytale, instead of seeing through it and getting hurt.
Also Tis the Damn Season is about going back home for Xmas and seeing that ex - the road not taken.
evermore is definitely one of taylor’s best albums.
her when tolerate it: I WISH U WOULD
me when she said it: I WISH U WOULD COME BACK (1989 always present)
FR I THOUGHT THR SAMT THING
In It's Time To Go, "He's got my past frozen behind glass, but I've got me" is in reference to her Masters!
she actually wrote happiness about her friend abigail’s divorce !! :)

Just like in the actual gold rush.

also the Gold Rush was when EVERYONE traveled west in the US to get gold from california, because she always refers to him as "gold" it's actually so clever to say everyone is flocking to him as if it's the "Gold Rush"
Walking up to the podium definitely references Calvin Harris, he never wanted to give her credit or mention Taylor at all.
it’s also the order of the taylor’s versions releases
champagne problems is, like, two people that had different ideas for their relationship: one of the wanted to propose and the other wanted fo break up - it's fantastic how you caught up on that so fast cuz i had to listen to it multiple times before i got what was happening
I love how you’re holding the hairbrush like 🤺🤺🤺 during tolerate it😭😭😭
28:58- “Girl, D R O P your oven mitt”. I know that’s right! 🎉
ivy is actually inspired by Emily Dickinson who was a lesbian poet, and the song even references poems she wrote to/for her lover Sue, who was married to Emilys brother!
the way you can analyse lyrics so well on your first time of listening is fascinating im literally obsessed with ur channel 😭😭 im so glad you listened to evermore because its probably my favourite album ever and i love hearing your interpretations on it!💓
You NEED to do 1989 ( Taylor’s Version) next !
Or it's about Matty and taylor.
I think willow, Cowboy like me and IVY are about Matty
i love evermore because it's such a great album about closure, every song is about the ending of something, how things ended up after something shifted in her life and/or characters. and it makes even more sense coming after folklore that is mostly about reminiscing things from the past and what they could've been. these albums together are a great testimonium about grieving the life we could've had without the pandemic and accepting the life we got because of it. perfect masterpieces.
love your reactions, thanks for being in this journey and enjoying her work, it's incredible how you get most songs at first listen!! 🫶
I’ve been a swiftie for 16 years and evermore is my favorite Taylor album. I needed it a lot after I lost both my grandmothers on the same day two years apart (2018 & 2020). It took me probably round 20ish listens of Marjorie to stop crying. This album is so special, it’s encapsulated a very specifically dark, but hopeful time in my life. loove ‘tis the damn season!
YES OMG I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
Your patience is appreciated🥹🤣
What is interesting about “Tolerate It” is that it was already a repeated cycle. She had already been second-guessing about this relationship, thinking of leaving but in the end she still end up giving this man a chance “I sit and watch you” in the end of the song and in the eras tour where she sat back. Ironically, tolerating the man’s half-ass treatment to her. It adds another layer of sadness on that song
EXILE and NO BODY NO CRIME are untouchable
i love your interpretation of coney island! there are a LOT of parallels to her older songs, and that just makes the song so good with the concept - coney island, a former paradise. it will always be my favorite taylor swift song ever
i always think of tolerate it as a daughter - father relationship and it hits so much more

little fun fact : i think Taylor has said that she wrote 'tis the damn season while she was drunk
Yeah she wrote that the Grammy's night where folklore won album of the year
@@jostherramirez4593folklore won its grammy after evermore was released😭
Obviously that's just an interpretation and I could be super wrong, but that's the feeling I get.
the tortured poets department is my favorite album now, it’s really really great
Marjorie gives me chills every single time.
Lover is her very in love pop.
i love love love champagne problems. and Coney Island. and Cowboy like me. and Happiness. I AM THE BIGGEST EVERMORE STAN EVER

(Hint: Dear John is the precursor to Would've, Could've, Should've on Midnights; they're about the same relationship with her different perspectives over the years.)
I also think Speak Now will give some good context for you BEFORE you go into her 4th album, Red (Taylor's Version). Red is a fan favorite so I see that everyone's requesting that next, but trust me - you will appreciate the pain and heartbreak of Red way more once you've heard a little more of her romantic history leading up to that point.
To expand, I think a great order (assuming you're continuing this series... please do!) would be:
Speak Now (3rd album) -> Red (4th album) -> 1989 (5th album) -> reputation (6th album) -> Lover (7th album)
And then come the newer ones that you've already heard!

I feel like tis the damn season is kind of a christmas story like those christmas movies where the girl comes home to her hometown and meets her past lover and they start dating again (call me babe for the weekend) and then instead of the happily ever after she is back in la and thats kind of the ending at least thats my view of the song
Her ending tolerate it with the first line of the song shows that she never broke free and left. It was all in her head.
I really hope one day you’ll react to the eras tour cause tolerate it live is incredible

Looking forward to more videos:)

my own thing when it comes to the closure sound is that it is supposed to be awkward, uncomfortable and a lil bit tense because the pain this person leaves you is just agonizing and you just haven’t fully moved on and you said all of that out of spite so your point that she’s totally lying about not needing closure is very very on point with my thing LOL

Leaving a comment before watching bc this gonna be a slay wbk
Welcome to youtube, evermore reaction video 😌 we've been waiting for you
I'm stuck in a TTPD loop.
@NeeCee X
Closure has that sound because its about scott and her old label, Big Machine, that's why the background sounds like a machine breaking down
