Agreed 💯 That was too many fighters for an Imperial warlord. I think this fleet is heralding the impending arrival of Thrawn on the scene. While I know that he’ll mostly appear and factor in Ahsoka’s series, I still can’t wait to see his introduction here in Mando S3, even as a cameo. 🙂
Why would thrawn bother with Bo? That’s not Thrawns character, thrawn would see her as beaten. Tharwn is still a warrior. Bo is a beaten warrior. Gideon is the type that would kick someone where there down.
You should do a video on how the top rated Imperial vs Rebel starfighters stack up against each other. For instance how does the A-Wing compare to the TIE Interceptor.
The outline of the interceptor is just an absolute treat to look at. Don't get me wrong the classic TIE Fighter still cuts an imposing figure, but those arrow wings look like they were designed to slice right through the skin of space.
My favourite imperial starfighter will always be the Tie Defender. They just stand out, being able to beat almost every other enemy fighter and being one of the most serious threats to the rebels and other factions that had to fight Thrawn in space combat.
@@siegel947 It didn't need a hyperdrive as it isn't a multirole fighter. Its an interceptor, a pure dogfighting starfighter. It excels in manuverability, agility, and speed. It had powerful laser cannons with a top notch targeting computer... it was more of a defensive screening tool than an offesive one, being feared among alliance pilots. Their introduction actually contributed a ton to the decreased effectiveness of Alliance hit and run attacks... If it was an escort, maybe, but then again it would have to escort shuttles, starwings, or gunboats. This could be an actual option, but usually the empire doesn't launch small long range missions. Rather, they send in some frigates, cruisers or SDs, as a lot of the empire's ships were anti-capitalship powerhouses. It can't do much against capital ships, as even those that had a munitions launcher had concussion missles, a more anti-starfighter oriented weapon.

I don’t like how the Empire already had Tie Interceptors before the Battle of Yavin in the new canon. In legends they built the Interceptor to go against the X-wing and then the Rebels developed the A-wing to go against the Interceptors thereafter.
Or even the TIE Defender Elite that Thrawn was developing. It'll be interesting to see how it fares against the modded N1 or Bo's starfighter. Heck, I'd like to see it go toe to toe with newer gen X-Wings.
Used to fly these things in 'Tie Fighter' on PC. Love the aggressive designe! Back in the 90's - 'Micro Machines' had a Toy line called 'Action Fleet' and they had so many Ships from Star Wars in a scale of 1:72 (maybe a little 'bigger') - One of them was a Tie Interceptor - They were so cool and had so many 'details' for a 'cheap' Toy.
I would like to see a video about the Tie Bomber. I think it will be relevant since it was also seen in the most recent episode along with the Tie Interceptor.
I could watch videos on the ships and their specs all day. Super cool stuff. I also think that the fleet which appeared in Episode 3 was under the direction of Thrawn.
"Your generic TIE grunt is just plain suicidal. And the TIE Defender jockey is bloodthirsty. But the TIE Interceptor pilot, he's suicidal *and* bloodthirsty. When you see a squad of those maniacs flying your way, you'd better hope your hyperdrive is operational." Kyle Katarn
Not only that, this isn't a squad from Gideon's cruiser. There were only standard TIEs on that ship, and the sheer volume means that they are either coming from a massive base somewhere nearby, or there's a star destroyer in orbit somewhere. I think these are coming from Thrawn, personally.
The Interceptor was an improvement I’ve the standard TIE, but still had the two main weakness of the original (lack of shields and hyperdrive) still makes it a death trap for most pilots. Without the skills of their elite pilots the interceptors would be wiped out by the rebels and New Republic fighters easily. Now the Defender and Defender Elite is another story all together as proven on Rebels. That would be fun as hell to fly in a game.
I can still remember playing with these in X-wing Alliance in massive space skirmishes using the maneuverability as the main advantage. Also it could sustain more damage compared to the regular Ties.
Was so happy to see them again. My favorite Tie! I was surprised we didn't see the ship they came from, since they don't have hyper drives they had to come from somewhere close.
They did appear in the atmosphere and the crusier or carrier could just be in space... would've been cool if we saw it as mando and bo escaped. Also could be that they are actually hyperspace capable. In lore, as the Galactic Civil War dragged on after Endor, warlords began to add sheilds, munitions launchers, and hyperdrives to their TIE models. This was because TIEs weren't getting replaced anymore, and experienced pilots were a valuable commodity. Would be cool if this was the case in mando. But I doubt they would change anything about the TIE to make them more interesting lol.
Not sure if you need to use hyper space when travelling between 2 neighbouring planets. I thought the interceptors followed them back from mandalore, since the imperials likely had a base hidden there. But it is quite confusing how long a travel and what is necessary to do that trip. When grogu and bo katan go back to mandalore to save Din djarin, you kind of get the feeling like this was less than 2 hours later that they were back to him. Certainly less than a day.

Bonus 11. In the video games like Empire at War and Battlefronts, they are excellent against other fighters but they perform poorly against capital ships and bigger ships in general.
Yes Thrawn had a whole fleet of them. In fact he modified them with shields. They were used during the galactic empire. Palpatines royale guard had modified versions. Even warlords used them later after endor. Zsing used them to try and lure wedge antilles out to kill him and rogue squadron. Its believed the rebel alliance based the B-wing to counteract the interceptor after the battle of yavin. ABY. Cool video as always!
What's bugging me about this episode is that the interceptor and bombers are short range fighters (I could be wrong). Which means there should have been a home ship or local station that they would have come from. Why did we see that in the shots of them leaving the planet?
"Your generic TIE grunt is just plain suicidal. And the TIE Defender jockey is bloodthirsty. But the TIE Interceptor pilot, he's suicidal and bloodthirsty. When you see a squad of those maniacs flying your way, you'd better hope your hyperdrive is operational." --Kyle Katarn Heck I can see why they are a bunch of insane pilots now at s3
in the future the TIE Interceptor will evolve into the TIE Baron for the time of the sequels, which was a starfighter capable of taking on an entire squadron in the hands of a good pilot.
Agree that it must have been Thrawn. Love this breakdown and would be curious about where Kylo's fighter come from, if you have the background? I know you're not a huge Sequels fan, but that ship was badass for sure.
the TIE interceptor was the Empires answer to the X-Wing. The interceptor was faster, could turn tighter and just all around out maneuver the X-Wing. It also packed quad cannons leveling the firepower playing field as well.
I would say so, in Rise of Skywalker, the First Order T.I.E fighters chase Poe and Finn and they can jump to lightspeed now. So it wouldn't by itself I think, it would have to have a new system.
This would be a perfect time to introduce Baron son Fel! 1 of the top Tie Interceptor Aces! He would fit in well as one of Thrawns Elite, And see him defect to Rebels side!
I remember the original TIE Fighter video game and it was a toss-up for me between the Interceptor and Defender for my favorite. Oh it's definitely Gideon; I'm going through the new Thrawn trilogies to confirm or refute my initial impressions that Thrawn's return is not going to be Grand Admiral Thrawn of The Empire, but as Admiral MItth'raw'nuruodo of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force
The main topic you missed was Thrawn, that was the big easter egg in the episode. Thrawn led the program for the Tie Interceptor while in competition and dealing with Krenic for project acceptance by the Emperor for the death star, it was all in the book "Treason" and pretty obvious 😂. Im kinda let down that Theory doesnt know this stuff. That was a HUGE easter egg in the episode leading to thrawn and Dave is directing the next episode and will probably be a teaser for Thrawn or show Ahsoka. Theory probably wont even read this lol, he only reads the comments from people who pay lol.
Something I don't understand is how bad the pilots were and how they've been struggling to shoot at Bo-Katan and Din's ships when they're supposed to be fast and equipped with such advanced targeting systems.
in your verses series do you ever think about doing pilots in your them and there ships like iden versio in her tie fighter vs luke skywaker in his xwing or darth vader in his tie advanced x1 vs Ahsoka Tono in her jedi starfighter?
My question is which kind of ship took them in, a star destroyer maybe; but with the sheer number there were, I think they had Quasar Carriers bring them in mass. Which, is also interesting because this is irregular for imperial strategy, it’s almost like their commander is copying rebel strategy 🤔.
It would have been a good opportunity to introduce the TIE Advanced. whoever is launching these fighters has considerable wing at his disposal. I wouldn't guess thrawn because there was no grander strategy to it.
One of my favorite imperial starfighters. Still remember playing as these in the Tie Fighter PC game back in the 90s
One of my favorite games!
Loved that one, was also the craft you flew when the betrayel came and had to hold out against traitor imps until reinforcements came.
I do food reviews while I’m high on my UA-cam channel, first mexican to hop on the tube & do This bro
have you tried out star wars squadrons
Same here! Tie Fighter was one of my favorite games back in the day!
I can NEVER get enough of TIE Interceptors. They’re such a gorgeous looking ship!!

I think it's just Moff Gideon since they said he escaped.
Why would thrawn bother with Bo? That’s not Thrawns character, thrawn would see her as beaten. Tharwn is still a warrior. Bo is a beaten warrior. Gideon is the type that would kick someone where there down.
None of those TIEs could shoot straight. With shooting like that they would have trouble hitting a Star Destroyer.
@@CommanderTexas But Gideon had no interceptors at his disposal.
TIE Interceptors and the N1 Starfighters are my favorite spacecrafts in Star Wars. The epitome of aerodynamic design.
Jedi starfighters tho
V wing, y wing, tie bomber and the tie interceptor
@@Lordofthereee_ the Jedi vectors look pretty cool too imo

It is a pretty even match the a wings was made orginal to counter ties fighters in dogs fighting, And intercepting.

Tie defender is like the F22, so it is a fighter created for air/space dominance it is scary to fight with it
The Twin Ion Engine Intercepter was a great machine. All it needed was shields like the Advanced or Defender.
Agree yet with a hyperdrive class 2 would compete 1 on 1 with the rebels x-wing.
@@siegel947adding a hyperdrive would make them heavier and less agile

Yep, prefer the legends over cannon. The Interceptor is a pretty raw dogfighter.
I hope we get to see a Tie Defender in the Mandalorian
Whenever we see Thrawn, if it's in Mando or Ahsoka, I reckon we will see defenders as we know from Rebels Thrawn was in charge of their production

I first became aware of interceptors in rogue squadron for N64
I wish they'd made them appear more lethal. They definitely didn't come across like elite pilots.
