  • The Last Trip for the season of 2023 gave us some extreme dog sledding with challenging winter conditions.
This video you will follow Matti, Victoria and Andreas on the Final Spring Adventure in end of April.
They spent 7 days on the trail and faced deep water on melting frozen lakes, high mountains with bare and rocky ground. They spent their nights in both mountain huts, hot tent but where also welcomed to our friends Torhild and Carls home in their remote wilderness home. We want to give a BIG THANK YOU to them and Victoria & Andreas that made this a remarkable trip.
AND Thank You Snorre for making our excellent and tough dog sleds!

Except for making videos we also run a small company called JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA and a kennel called WORKING HUSKY KENNEL. We offer guided outdoor tours in Swedish Lapland all around the year. During the winter we mostly do dog sled tours and in the summertime, it’s hiking tours, wildlife safaris, canoe, and packraft trips. We live year-round in Jokkmokk with our 50 Siberian Husky and 2 Border Collies.

I work in the dog behavior profession.
I love to watch working dogs do their jobs.
They look very healthy and motivated.
My struggle is trying to get owners who keep Huskies as pets to understand them.
I'd love to spend time with them learning the ins and outs of this specific niche of animal care and conditioning.
On those long, cold and lonely nights those guys are not just ' tools' to do a job but companions for you and each other. Very, very, cool.

We cal it ‘förfallotid’ or something like ‘collapsing time’. That’s a period when it’s impossible to take the canoe and the snow is too rotten for travelers. You should just wait until next ‘season’.

Hej, Matti - ... the Arctic from its best side.... a truly semi-amphibic adventure. Last time I had such an abrupt surge in air-temperature was in 1990 in Tarfala creating massive discharge from the both, seasonal snow-cover, plus the surrounding glaciers, and again 1991 in Rovaniemi... which made the town literally sink like the Titanic, being preceded by air-temperatures below minus 30 degrees Celsius, which kept prevailing over an extended period of time....- so, I know what you were doing there, and I salute you, but first and foremost the brave dogs ... y'all rock - big time !!

    Hej Matti.
What do you think about VBL Bags in sleeping bags and VBL liner socks in shoes to keep them dry from sweating. I have never seen this in one of your videos. Can you dry your shoes every night? Don´t you bring to much moisture in your sleeping bag when sleeping in the tent?
    Thanks a lot!

If a dog looks stiff after exercise does that mean she got too much? I have an 8 year old who is still very eager to run with my bike but I'm not sure if she can still go as far as she used to.

    • @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
      @JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA  4 місяці тому +1

8 years isn’t very old if it’s a husky who have been fit the whole life and who have got high quality food. But it’s very much difference from individuals.
Older dogs need more training before they can make longer stretches. You have to increase the training slower than with younger dogs.
Have you tried glucosamine in addition to the dog food? That’s great for older dogs.
Bicycle… Older dogs should not go to fast. Definitely not fast when it is a hard surface… but too soft ground is also hard for them…
This is a few things that’s popping up on my mind.
      :-)
