I love how adversity isn't a detriment to your enjoyment out there. Way to go! To preserve the feeling of wilderness for others, I always cut stumps down as low to the ground as possible, so the ground vegetation can easily cover it. And if I can I put a few cuts in top of the stump to help it rot faster and not look so much like a cut tree. In "wildlife trees" (dead trees that are topped to a safe level so they're no threat to people/structures, but left standing for bugs etc. to live in) the top is often cut like a spiky crown to give them the illusion of having been snapped instead of cut. I may not put that much effort in, but I do the lite version of that whenever I can. It is just a nice thing to do for whomever comes to that same spot next year, making it not look so "touched by human hands".
I usually watch Mathew Posa from canada as well and his dogs Reager and Monte they do a lot of interesting camp outs and hes a pretty good cook to and treats his animals well like family
I once heard about an explorer that learned a skill from natives in the arctic. Wet the bottom of the sled and that helps with friction once it freezes. Not sure that would matter as much with a plastic sled.
That brings back memories. Every time there was a blizzard, my buddies and I, or sometimes just me, would jump in our cars and head off to the cottage and spend all day in the forest. Sometimes we’d camp out too. I’m super curious about the tent. I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while, but I’ve mostly only seen those awful, cheap Chinese ones. This one is a bit pricey, so I’d love to hear what you think of it. Especially if you’re going to use it a lot down the road.
Our family came to visit and tonight we all had supper together watching this intently! Waiting to see how you liked the tent and the stove! Love love love your adventures! Thank you Noah!
This made me smile as I am sitting here watching this 1 day after another good few centimeters of snow fell overnight (around 30cm where I live in Nova Scotia). This time around a bit less disruptive than the one you are in from last week :) I was also pleased to read that Nova Scotia is designating 15 new provincial parks, and expanding 2 others.
It’s all about the places you go and what you’re willing to endure. I’ve lived in a small van in the Okanagan of BC for 23 months and it’s not ideal all of the time and that’s part of the adventure.
Lived in Goose Bay Labrador for 3 years and travelled in those conditions with a snowmobile. Under the snow is slush which freezes in the tracks. I remember taking over 2 hours to get less than 2 kilometres. Brutal. I feel for you.
"GSI Outdoors Ultralight Java Drip Coffee Maker" it's so good I even use it at home. Ultralightweight, reusable, minimalistic, use to prefilter sandy water as well. I regret every time I don't bring it.
One of my favourites yet! Such a well balanced video. Adventure, relaxation, nature, nature facts, your authenticity and obvious joy is a joy to watch. There's no other channel quite like it. My go-to relaxation channel!
Another superb video! Love the winter scenery. I can only imagine the meal you had after all that hiking and shovelling. You have stamina that's for sure. Thank you, Noah!
Your adventures are always great but since the Eastern Shore video this past summer, I'm hooked. Just excellent. I love the use of the Walmart sled as your pulk.
It would be cool to plan this kind of trip in two stages. Initial scouting during autumn for locations to lay up a pile of cut firewood and put it hidden under cover for the return trip in mid-winter. Then having a cache really dried out wood would be a nice bonus and allow more time to explore and not sweat yourself chilly.
Another exciting adventure to watch with one of my favorite people. Burr! I can’t wait for your next one as always be safe and lots of love from Ohio❤ God Bless
The only real issue with winter camping (if you jave all the proper gear) is getting back out after a major snowfall. Glad you managed to get out even if it was with some help.
Oh no?! What a thing to finally get to your car and it’s buried! That sucks! Knowing you Noah from your adventures, your attitude is most likely “Whatever doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!” See you on the next one!
not at all. he deliberately went out in a storm. not only was it forecast before he left, he also kept tabs on the weather by sat device to make sure it was developing as predicted. that was the whole point of the video! it's great to see a ton of snow out in the woods and all, but you can't have the storm chasing thing both ways...
I have a similar silnylon tent from seek outside. Have had it in sustained 30+ mph winds with little cover and had it do well. Slept in it down to below 0F/-18C. At those temps It's only useful as a wind break after the fire goes out, so I always pack my warmest sleeping bag. I live in Maine and never use it in spring and summer due to bugs, though I can buy a dedicated nest for it that would make it usable. The small footprint and ease of setup and teardown make it great for late season canoe trips too when the nights can get cold and longer. It's more comfortable to relax in the warm, well-lit tent and requires less wood processing than an open fire for comfort and cooking.
I use a shovel called the Garant Yukon Snow Sleigh for my big driveway, during the storm I strapped it to the back of my 4Runner everywhere I went. I got stuck turning around in a ditch and moved about 3 cubic metres of snow in the blink of an eye to access my undercarriage and dig that out. Same day I also rescued a guy who got stuck in his driveway using that shovel.
Wow you are a brave guy , where are you here ? We were so afraid of you walking on the lake , the ice isn't very thick on the lakes this year . You sure had lots of snow to shovel . Thanks for sharing . We are looking forward to your next video .
I like the fact that the tent is light weight but don’t care that it doesn’t have a floor. So might be wise to pack a waterproof tarp to put over the floor to help keep things dry.
Always enjoy your adventures. This one looked more on the not-so-nice side but glad to see you ate well!! That ravioli couldn’t have been a 5 star Michelin dish :)
Congratulations on the new hot tent Noah!! Fun trip even if a bit "breezy" 😉 Hope you continue to get some good snowfall and more adventures out there and looking forward to them! Thanks for bringing us 💜 Barret
Wondering where you were exactly..looks like somewhere towards Chester? Great adventure video, however if you wanted “real snow” you should have been here in Cape Breton! We got severely dumped on…and then again yesterday..Whoopee! Cheers MikeR. ( if this had happened during your CB Highlands trip ..you might still be there..lol.) 😅
That same storm dropped 150cm up here in Sydney Cape Breton. Most I've seen in my life. Glad to see you made it safely home and enjoyed the adventure as well. Thanks for the amazing content!
Ugh...2 hours of shovelling that, after all that snowshoeing thru slush 🥱 Slushshoeing actually 😂 I like that idea of the loops on the sled for attaching the gear ropes! I have a similar sled from Canadian Tire, that I put holes along the side to hook bunjies on, but I think the loops would be better. I will have to steal that idea. Thanks Noah! 😊
Awesome video as always thanks for sharing, like the hot tent and your setup, amazing how the stove pipes rolls up (never seen that before)...stay safe Noah love your videos!
Love the type 2 fun my Friend…Life is a struggle but when struggling in the elements of Mother Nature, that makes living memorable and always a great story.See you in CapeBreton some day.Cheers 🏕️❄️🔥
Hi Noah, I am the guy who suggested putting snow on your coffee to sink the grains. In a freshly brewed cowboy coffee, one tablespoon of snow on top of a normal mug or travel glass would not cool it down much, believe me. And, if you really are a true coffee drinker, you would always prefer real coffee from the horrible, chemical instant stuff. Try it!. Anyway, great video as always. Thanks for sharing.
and i was the guy who said forget the snow, just use a spoon. all it takes is a tap and the grounds will stay down. having said that, the real cost of real coffee is having to carry a big heavy insulated mug so the coffee can steep for 10 minutes without cooling off. so for trips when I'm not just base-camping and load is an issue, i myself will drink instant. A lot of smart people have worked on instant coffee over the years, there are options besides taster choice that are passably good.
We use the GSI Ultralight Java Drip. It clips to your mug. Put the coffee in it, pour hot water and you have good coffee even when backwoods camping. We love it.@@jb1934
OH NO! AG-1 has gotten to even Noah and the Northern Scavengers 🤣 - I swear there is not one channel or podcast I follow that hasn't been caught in the expensive green blob that is AG-1. With all that said, glad to see the channel supported - the content deserves it.
You got more respect for this solo adventure. I love snow but that walk/hike back to the car would have been tough. The glacier facts are always interesting too!
New here but i have been camping in the winter for the past 30years. The only dry wood out there is standing straight up and down. Any limbs or even leaners are wet within, especially when it is raining out. If you want to keep dry, dry wood is essential with a blistering hot fire. Wet wood causes creosote to build up on the spark arrestor and plugging the draft off... Live in Northern British Columbia... Just sayin Cheers
Hey Noha, heard you folks are getting quite the snow storms out there, in southwestern On. it has been like Spring, Thanks for braving the storm to take us on a snowy adventure love your set up.. always enjoy your video and hearing about the geology of an area , use to love that in school.
Noah, have you tried the Kuju coffee pour overs? A 6 packet box is at MEC for $15, including tax. Coffee is a necessity for us. We used to carry an aero press….a little bulky.
I'm not a coffee guy, I do tea - but most of my buddies swear by Cafe Bustelo...Illy is also starting to show up... ? - Does that set up have outside guy lines for the chimney ?
Ain't no dry wood out there, except in the middle of a tree! The wood stove always takes forever to heat when you light it the typical way. If you fill it with pine twigs and bows instead, it will heat up almost instantly. I'm so glad you got out in this storm, I was busy shoveling the most snow I've shoveled in my life and then breaking that record for 3 days running! Oh the joys of human power and country driveways. PS cooling coffee down like that is an affront to the gods and a tree will fall on your tent if you do it. Cowboy coffee with floating grounds in it is just not done cooking yet lol smh.
Hey man ! Great video as always, I use AG1 too (not sponsored but sure wish I was) I work on the road a lot and it's hard to have a balanced diet so I use AG1. I found the exact same thing, I didn't ave the crash in the afternoon, and I was more "regular" haha Thanks for sharing the trip !
Good camp out. Consider a stove pipe T-Cap with spark arrestor. Keep the tent or forest from burning. Is that a spark arrestor I saw when you were packing pipes away? I speak from experience. 😉. Best 🌞
How was the instant coffee? We often make coffee at home with about 90 degree C water (kettle goes by 5C increments). Some say the coffee is burnt with the water much hotter. I know my mouth is burnt with it too hot. 😂
There is an integrity and an intelligence about you, Noah, and it makes your videos especially enjoyable.

As a geologist, I like the way you talk about the local geology during your adventures.
as another geologist, I concur!
As a non geologist I like the same, Many thanks
Big same! Geology rocks!!
As an RN I agree with all the geologists ❤
epic shovel out lol
we got an awful lot yeah, good on you braving it!

I like that it's lightweight and portable, I don't like how wet it gets. I'll have a stronger opinion after our upcoming trip and will report back :)
@@NorthernScavenger That would actually be greatly appreciated.
Still shovelling in Pictou County three days after the second storm. Drifts 5 meters high in places.
enjoyed another great video Noah. Keep them coming
The snowfall was definitely epic. I love the stove set up. I'll have to check it out.
I could smell the wood smoke & fresh air! You really capture the essence and majesty of the East Coast Noah!
Our family came to visit and tonight we all had supper together watching this intently! Waiting to see how you liked the tent and the stove! Love love love your adventures! Thank you Noah!
Look forward to you videos Noah, this one did not disappoint. Saw you had no comment on the instant coffee.
So beautiful loved it
Great video and luxury wild camping!
The Soul of an Octopus! such a good book.
Fellow maritimer here! having a hot tent night next weekend this video getting me super excited! keep up the awesome work!

Hey Noah…good to see you again! I used to grind my own coffee and take a coffee pot…instant is remarkable! Love the snow! TY😎

a way of dealing with condensation in a tent it a bag of open cat litter, it absorbs the extra water vapour really well.
