Live just a few hours over in NC..trying to convince my husband to move to East TN. He grew up in Arizona..moving to NC in the early 80’s. He lived briefly in Tulahoma TN while taking care of his grandparents then. He seems to think all of TN is like this location, Fingers crossed I can change his mind.
Hubby was transferred to Kingsport from our hometown of Nashville in the early 70’s. We lived in Johnson City for a couple of years - loved it. Then 5 years in Kingsport (Wateree St). Absolutely hated when he was transferred back to Middle T. Now am retired, Hubby is in really bad health and I’m looking at my options. Johnson City and Bristol are on my list.

My husband and I are planning our first big move from central FL to east TN specifically near the Knoxville area in February 2024. We are looking for a rental to start out and get a feel for the area. Is this something you could help with? Thank you for this video, it was very informative and reassured us in our decision to bite the bullet and make the move!!
Be prepared when you consider renting. They are building some units in Knoxville but, at the moment, there little to nothing available. I worked in KNOX for three years and couldn’t find anything without paying an arm and leg for it. I drove from Madisonville TN and finally just took a job here since the market was packed up there. Now, there’s very little to rent even in this area and the prices are skyrocketing. It’s still not CA prices. I lived out there for 27 years but it’s higher than I’ve ever seen it here. I grew up in North GA and it’s pretty much the same scenario there. Knoxville is a great little city though. Love it there.
It’s very uncomfortable that a lot of roads have no shoulder, just a drop off to a ditch or worse. There is no forgiveness if you need to get over. From what I noticed. Better keep that boat or trailer center and straight even around curves.
Hi, thank you for a great video! Lots of people are worried about tornadoes in TN, but it's not even on the list of the top 10 states with tornadoes. There is a statistics on tornadoes for each county, and Northeast TN doesn't get much of it. We are considering to move there. However, TN has one of the highest crime rates in the US. What can you say about it? How safe are the cities in Northeast Tennessee? Is it safe to raise kids there?
I feel very safe in East TN. I assume you're talking about the Bristol area when you say NE TN. I can't speak on that area because I am about 2 hours west in Knoxville. I have visited Bristol several times and never felt unsafe. I'd be happy to chat if you have any other questions.

Hi, thanks for the information. Thinking about moving to East Tennessee, I would like to buy land for homestead/hobby farm. Would you consider east/ northeast a good area? We are planning a trip in the fall, and I would like to narrow my viewing area. And yes, I would love to meet with a realtor to look at some areas and property, who can educate me, and help guide us to the proper areas.
I think "good area" can be different for everyone. There are not many places in East TN that I would consider a bad area. I would love to chat with you about the different locations. Feel free to call or text me anytime.
That’s a loaded answer. There’s really not one dominant culture in TN. I’d be happy to talk it over with you but it basically boils down to what culture you decide to embrace.
No TN income tax but very high sales tax. And smokers EVERYWHERE. Drug use is another concern because of the petty crime, theft that follows from people desperate for money to buy drugs. This is true in rural areas all over the southeast, maybe even the whole country.
TN is still 15% lower than the nation cost of living average. It’s sad that drugs are a thing but like you said it’s everywhere in the country. That being said I would still feel safe living in most parts of East TN.
The weather is no longer in God's hands, it is in HARP's hands and has been for decades. We have chemtrails in TN, even though they have been banned. How are they going to enforce that?
